Fab - thanks Justin for the speedy and helpful reply :)
He's only so far emailed me to say that the 'panel has corrosion', that 'some of the pots are a bit noisy' but that it 'sounds 100%'. He serviced it himself a 'few months' ago and will do so again before selling.
He bought it to UK from Japanese dealer 2yrs ago, hasn't gigged it and has mostly kept it shut in case in studio.
I love the sound (in web vids) of these unusual single-osc synths.
But have you found panel corrosion hard to cure before please?

Yes, I've found rust and corrosion to be very difficult to get rid of with the tools I have. Almost everything I've found that cleans corrosion/rust from metal, also eats away at plastics and sensitive circuitry. So, if you are going to attempt to clean the "panel" (by which, I assume he means the front panel for the controls and such) you must take extra care and disassemble everything first. Worse yet, if left untreated the corrosion can spread to electronic parts ultimately leading to failure. Not fun to deal with.

Trimph1 may have more encouraging words for you here. I don't have much good experience with restoring metal.

Many thanks again Justin. I'll get a quote from my local guitar and synth repair specialist for likely treatment of corrosion (i've now got pix from the SH-3 auction site). I'll then consider bidding for the SH-3. The real alert though is that the seller thinks dampness has caused the corrosion.
The other option is to go for the SH-3a. It doesn't have the SH-3 Moogish filter but the seller describes it as 'near mint' (and it's a good vintage), compared to 'near good' for the corroded juicier SH-3.
Choices!

I just noticed your PM ... mmmmmmm..You might want to see how much corrosion is there..on metal it might be a bit of a tussle, I'm thinking that the old steel wool and soap trick might do some work on the corrosion itself, on plastic, eergh...some plastic cracks after awhile so it might be brittle as well...I think there might be a way of replicating the older plastic though ... I know one fellow up here that actually still has his SH-3 and from what I remember he had replaced the metal with fabricated parts he had made up....so....?

I've wanted a Digi C24 for a while now but the Nucleus gives it a strong run for it's money. The Nucleus doesn't integrate as tightly with Pro Tools but it seems to have slightly better build quality. So much cool expensive stuff to want!!!1!

I don't have to ask. They are awesome, that's all there is to it. I'd have three if my rig was big enough to warrant another.

Unless we're talking about the school yard kind of hertz donut... those suck.
