Here is a body I ordered a couple of days ago.
This is not the actual one, it's being cut, mine.
It's bocote top.
Looking forward to getting it together.
So I have 2 builds I am working on,
perhaps I will get hex pups for both from Ubertar.
Cheers
edit- I think that is a great price in truth hibidy,
My rg was $600, about 5 years ago. It's not prestige, like.
Gorgeous axe man, yours.
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

That is a wonderful looking body!

I think it's going to look great with a black 1 ply pickguard.

no, what you gave up...sorry my friend but I worked buying and selling used gear for quite a while...the price tag may have said 599 but that might not be a true accounting of what you paid. If you exercised a tiny bit of patience, put the guitar on layaway and sold your gear in a private sale (the marketplace here, CL, ebay etc) you might have walked away with the guitar and cash in your pocket in a week. Having been on the other side of the counter it's doubtful I would ever trade in a guitar, especially with a store like GC...a mom and pop store might give you a good deal if the guitar you're buying as been hanging around a while. Of course that is I understood your post correctly...but as long as you're happy that's all that matters :)

Sweet! It looks like the hardtail version of mine.
599 (though I had to pay tax) which is 300 less that if I would have bought it back then.
Wow!
Weird pup combos but it's nice to have variety.
The parallel position is pretty weird. I've got three Ibanez's with that wiring and the parallel only works well with the PAF Pro. If you upgrade it to have a PAF Pro in the neck and a Tone Zone in the bridge, you'll pretty much have my #2 Ibanez.
I had ditched the strat because of several reasons (mostly that the "V" neck just wasn't working for me anymore) and I'm really sick of the "strat no matter what" sound.
Can't believe I'm saying this but I'm 100% with you on both points. The Vintage Hot Rod 52 Tele's neck mini humbucker kills a strat neck pickup, I'm completely over the SRV neck-middle combo (give me a tele/Les Paul/PRS in the middle over it any day), and the only reason I like the bridge sound of my #1 strat is because its Vintage Noiseless pickup gives it more of an Yngwie/modern Jeff Beck tone than a traditional strat tone. I'm even over the way strats look. :(

Post

Yeah the EC had those vintage noiseless too. Don't get me wrong, they sounded great.

There were actually a ton of quirky little things that just were NOT working for me any more.

Ya know what's funny. I've got an eighties strat that I've played over 500 gigs with. It has gold lace sensors. I was never fully satisfied with the output though others loved it. As suzi states it sounds somewhat clinical) I'd always bring a strat a thinline and a paul to blues gigs. When ever I chose my 63 strat or my 79 paul for a set everyone would say pick up blackie (not an ec just the color)

That guitar has done nothing but collect dust for 10 years. It has a lower output then anything else I have.

I picked it up out of the blue and ran it thru my roland cube. It was like hearing the guitar for the first time. Not too much sparkle or spank, just enough jangle when you need it. After playing it for a few hours my conclusion was I don't need another strat.

It's always about the complete chain, starting with the player ...
Saw an '80s Trower clip (Lace Sensors) lately, he sounded every bit as huge as always.
Certainly he himself will feel a big difference while playing.
I do, too, and for my tone and chain the Laces are not ideal.
My favourites are the various Fender Noiseless PUs, others hate them ...

Just a thought, don't ignore your gut feeling completely, make the real world test.
It's a Strat, why not swap out the complete pickguard for a different one with your secret dream PUs, 15 min job and then you'll know.
Maybe it's "only" a great piece of wood and sounds even better with other PUs ?
If not, simply put in the Laces again and you'll love them even more.
Just saying ...

have you thought about dyes? I was reading and watching some youtubes on dying guitars, especially attempting a sunburst which I think I am capable of.

BTW could you track your builds in the diy forum as well?

Nice ! :tu:
Identical pickups ?
How do they differ in sound ?
Cheers,

Post

They don't differ much (if at all) They sound really great......FAR better than I expected TBH. The reason I went back and got the trem version is because the necks are just  Really extra playable to me.......FFS, I haven't even done anything to them setup wise

I think though the hardtail one is gonna get re-wired to have it be H/s/middle both/s/H as the weird setup isn't quite right (H/Parallel neck/Middle both/both single/H) It's a better setup for the whammy one IMHO.

Post

Thanks !
I'd have expected the Floyd to make a noticeable difference.
Like on trem vs hardtail Strats ...
Changing the wiring should be easy.

In doubt choose a similar model / year.
Have fun,

I have inked one guitar before, and used spray packs a few times.
I have an airbrush, so it's certainly on the cards.
These 2 will remain natural though, as I wish to see the timber.
I'll start a thread in DIY for sure Hink :)
Oh I've got the thread title->
timber 4 timbre
hehe
