Don't think the epointz are useless- if you keep up with the threads and earn enough- you will be able to get some smokin deals. I was able to pickup a $60 release for $5! (sale plus epointz credit)- CRAZY WILD R.A.W. LOVE from Squids and company if you ask me (sorry, had to bring back the R.A.W. love from the promo that just ended).

I am a guitar/bass player and not much of a keys player but I felt inspired by several of the instruments. I mainly got in on this GB because I needed some good pianos without spending big $ and I am happy I did. I haven't had the chance to play with vintage keys yet but if it is the same quality as the piano collection I can't wait. Now let's get to 300 so I have to make a choice between the string and hip hop collections. BTW this is my second GB with esoundz and I couldn't be more satisfied...you guys rock.

I think you'll be pleased with Vintage Keys. Think of it as the Electric Piano Collection to go along with the Piano Collection. The CP70 and Rhodes in particular are simply outstanding.

The Hammond B3's are pretty good too, but I'm guessing you already have good organ sounds - they're pretty standard fare. There are other synth and Tron sounds in there too, which are great if you don't already have them in other collections.
If the Rhodes is that good I will be happy for that alone, I am something of a Rhodes fanatic. I just wish my skill at playing was better, but that's what the piano roll editor was made for...Quick query, if we get to 300 (I am assuming/hoping we will) would I be better off with Hip Hop collection, symphony strings, or somehting else. I have Miroslav CE and now Sampletank. I do mostly alt-country, experimental rock type stuff and don't really need any drums. Just looking for your informed opinion since I am indecisive...

I'm a fan of the symphony strings, but that's me. I really like the strings. And they are different from Miroslav.

Wow, torgo, that is an excellent tutorial on ADSR envelopes. Thank you and kudos for writing that out!

Now, can we talk about drums? I already have the SampleTank instruments and most of the sound libraries from previous group buys, but I am curious what drum presets folks have found most useful, as well as which ones you feel sound best. Also, what effects are useful for "beefing up" the sound? I am thinking mostly in terms of 60's/70's type rock. I have the Acoustic Drums library but not Electronic Drums. Any tips or pointers will be appreciated.

Love these eSoundz group buys!

I like the Symphony Strings too Rev, they're nice and bright, take up less sonic space in a pop/R&B mix than Miroslav, and like pianos, you can't have too many! (OR CAN you?)

Thanks Squids, for the ePointz and the shout out, I TRULY appreciate it!

Also, don't forget JavaJ's COOL set of revised child patches for the Vocal Collection here in the Banks and Patches section, he did an EXCELLENT job of cleaning up some tuning and volume issues and making everything more consistent.

And subtlearts, it was WAY back a few pages ago, when you mentioned the release times in Cinematik being so short. I had the same experience when I ran through it, but I also seem to remember there are child patches with longer release times for some of them. I've edited a few as needed, and it's a GREAT collection for spooky or sci-fi sound design...

That's something I haven't heard in a bit too, so it bears repeating, check out the child patches as you work thru your new sets! Many of the sounds heard in the demos are child patches, and especially with the vintage synth stuff, make a HUGE difference!

Thanks again to everyone who has given me epointz, I really am moved by your generosity. I'll return the favor as soon as I buy more! More! MORE!

How do we claim our bonus sounds library for the 200th participant? When I signed up we were somewhere in the 100's and I got a link to claim the extra library. I am however not sure how to go about getting the extra bonus when the telly went over the 200.

PS. I know you will make an extra special available for miro take-out (which I would probably want to go for)

Gut instinct is "something else". As others have noted, Symphony Strings is quite a nice set. The catch is that if you already have Miroslav CE, you'll probably get more mileage out of something else besides yet another set of string instruments and ensembles.

Hip Hop Collection is an interesting one, and the sounds are nice. But note that 392 meg of it is "orchestral elements", with piano, organ, brass and strings. They're good sounds, but between Miroslav CE, Piano Collection and Vintage Keys, you've already got that territory pretty well covered. Another 96 meg is electronic drum kits, which you say you don't need.

So that leaves about 350 meg of synth sounds (in two sections, named "analog elements" and "hip hop synth sounds" and 82 meg of guitar sounds.

They're all good sounds, and either of those sets might work if you can't find anything else of interest. But I think I'd look elsewhere first.

aha, makes sense. Yeah, I am up to speed on the envelope editing and such - torgo's walkthrough on ADSR was very helpful but I actually started on synths in about 1985 so I've got most of the basics under control at this point 8)

Anyway I'll get some use out of them one way or another and I'll probably try some others along the way as well. I've got some epointz here and some jampoints over at IK to play around with when the Paypal account fills up again...

Check your esoundz user area again. There should be a new link there, exactly where you found the first one.

The only link there is one called "Xpansion Tank 2 Group Buy Wild Card" which I downloaded. I have not yet chosen which library I want, so how can they know which one to link to. I thought that we could choose the libraries we get as a bonus - anyone from the long list of libraries available.

^^^^

In the past, to choose a product using a Wild Card, you go to your eSoundz.com Account and merge it with DownloadableSoundz.com (that only needs to be done once).

Then go to DownloadableSoundz.com, login, click on [Redeem Code] and enter the Wild Card number. Pick the product you want from a list. Then you download it from DownloadableSoundz.com. Make sure you knoew which product you want before you start the Redeem process.

---------------
Maybe the second Wild Card has not yet been assigned to the eSoundz Accounts yet.

Sepheritoh -

Look for it in the section that says "Here are your product serials". I think it should be called "V.I. Hot Buy Group Buy Bonus".

If it's not there, check with Allen at esoundz.

Still working on the sound lists for the Trons exclusive extras sets. I have the full versions of Squids Tron Collection vol 1 and SampleTron. I have the list of the repeats (the ones they have in common), so now I need to sort out the sound lists to figure out which "missing" ones would be in each Exclusive Extras set.

If that doesn't make sense, here's the story behind these sets:

Years ago, Sonic Reality released the "Squids Tron Collection (vol 1)" library for SampleTank. A few years later, SampleTron came out as a joint venture between IK and Sonic Reality.

Many of the sounds from STCv1 were included in SampleTron, but not all of them. Likewise, SampleTron had some sounds that had not been in STCv1.

So now esoundz has these two "extra" libraries so that people who own one product or the other can fill in the gaps. Squids Tron Exclusive Extras has the STCv1 sounds that were not included in SampleTron. SampleTron Exclusive Extras has the sounds that weren't in STCv1.

SampleTron is one of the instruments offered in this group buy. Squids Tron Exclusive Extras would complete the set.

If you already own the full Squids Tron Collection vol 1, then you could get the SampleTron Exclusive Extras and have the full library without needing to buy the full SampleTron instrument.

Here's one thing to note with Miroslav Philharmonik.

Each Instrument has 4 Send controls, one to each of 4 Send FX.
  • CSReverb, a high quality reverb designed specifically for orchestral sounds is the default effect for Send Effects 1.
  • all Parts have a default value of -6dB on Send Effects 1, creating an instant acoustic space for all parts
  • the output from the Send FX is always on channel 1+2
To see / hear this:
  • load Miroslav Philharmonik into your DAW and configure its multiple outputs,
  • load an instrument and change its output to 3+4,
  • play the instrument,
  • you will see its main audio output on the track connected to MP's output channels 3+4,
  • and you will see the reverbed audio on on the track connected to MP's output channels 1+2.
If you want the same result when loading Philharmonik Instruments into ST2 you'll need to add CSReverb to the Send FX chain and set the Send level yourself.

In both cases you might wish to avoid using channels 1+2 for the main outputs for the Instruments.

EDIT - Ok, here it is. Anything to avoid work. ;)
