Well, I was referring to the David Lynch version, since I think I don't know the John Harrison version. There was a television version produced for the German station "Pro7" last year, but I think you don't refer to that one, don't you???
(It was really, really embarrasingly bad, below
average soap-opera level, I would say!)

But judging from what you wrote, maybe I should
watch the John Harrison version, it seems to be
worth it.

Lighthouse

To be truly objective, I'd like to review some, to be sure the shine is not biased ; with age, things shift ... <img border="0" alt="[Scared]" title="" src="graemlins/1wscared.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="rolleyes.gif" />

Anyway nothing can harm Blade Runner, Dark City, 12 monkeys , Star Wars ...

Anyone up for sending me full loads of DVD and cassettes ???? <img border="0" alt="[Grin]" title="" src="graemlins/1hihi.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Grin]" title="" src="graemlins/1hihi.gif" />

Poweruser: I have one of the props from the set of "12 Monkeys" here in my cubical at work! One of my friends worked on the film when it was shot in Philly.

Some of my faves, in no specific order (I know I'm forgetting most of them):

* The Time Machine (the old original one, tho the new one was surprisingly good too)
* The War Of The Worlds
* When Worlds Collide (OK, I admit it: I love old George Pal films <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> )
* Blade Runner
* The Andromeda Strain
* 2001: A Space Odyssey
* The Omega Man (I loved the music from this)
* The Lathe of Heaven
* Fantastic Voyage
* Soylent Green
* Destination: Moon (REAL old one!)
* Brazil
* the "Alien" series (except the last one)
* the "Planet of The Apes" series
* Terminator I and II
* 12 Monkeys
* the original Star Wars trilogy
* The Matrix
* Dark City
* Forbidden Planet (gotta love the soundtrack!)
* THX1138 (those were the numbers, Dottie <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> )
* Total Recall
* RoboCop
* Event Horizon
* The Fifth Element
* Space Balls <img border="0" alt="[Grin]" title="" src="graemlins/1hihi.gif" />

Even if I usually like all the stunning FX, my alltime favourite has got to be "Dark Star" (John Carpenter). Saw it countless times, it's just dead funny. Gotta love Sgt. Pinback.

Other worth mentioning:
- Solaris (after the book by Stanislaw Lem, by far my absolute favourite SF writer, guess I got all of his stuff)
- Blade Runner
- The 5th Element
- 12 Monkeys
- Brazil (not *exactly* a SciFi one)
- Star Wars original (well... I just liked that)
- Start Treck (original series only, f**k all the Picards and Seven Of Nines...). Great cheesy stuff.
- "Raumpatroullie Orion". Old german cheesy shit.
- Original "Buck Rogers".

Oh, and of course "2001" - first time I took shrooms my friend got me to see this one, what an experience...
But even without drugs (I'm pretty much down to good old german beer since ages) it's awsome.

Cheers,
Sascha

For realism and the fact that man hadn't even landed on the moon when it was made...2001
Plant of the Apes, the original. For that "what the F**k" factor.
For horror, Invasion of the Bodysnatchers b&w
Thought it was scary!

Fake
PS
Try 2001 in subtitle mode with Pink Floyd's Animals blasting out!
Wern't gonna mention it but I was on Acid at the time......

Quatermass and the pit! - scared the shit out of me when I was a wee lad!

A boy and his dog

another PKD film (but not too good) - Screamers

It's a 6-hour telling, and was filmed completely on a set.

Hardcore David Lynch fans pretty much crucified it, but it has way more depth of story than the Lynch version.

Maybe it's the same soap-opera one your talking about but I personally thought it stayed true to the novel in a way that Lynch never did.

I loved it. And it makes much more sense to all the poor souls who haven't read the book...

I've got a question...

What did people really see in 2001: A Space Odyssey? Maybe I was missing some crucial element because that movie put me to sleep... I was pretty pissed off that I spent $5 to rent it and lost all those hours of my life that I'll never get back!!!

Please tell me why it was so cool??? And I mean no disrespect... I really want to know why people think it's such a great flick...
