Iconic Bass problem solved

K4 crashes when Iconic Bass: Jaco (and ONLY this product) is loaded, after between 10 - 30 of playing, running a sequence, touching the fake keys with the mouse, etc. The K4 message is "missing sample". I'm thinking this happened during its conversion to the new Kontakt 4 sample handling, which happens automatically after the first time you use in the most recent Kontakt 4s. I think it dropped a sample(s) during the conversion. I'm using the latest (5-11) version of K4. This was happening before this as well. I just think I need to redownload IBJ and hope for the best. CoreBass: Pear works just fine, so it doesn't seem to hold true for Orange Tree Samples' products in general.

Bumping my first post, as I've rewriten it entirely. I don't expect an OT response on the weekend, but I was hoping that maybe someone has the same problem.

Could I trouble someone to use the latest version of Kontakt, let it convert, and see what happens, or tell me of successful use of IBJ with the most recent K4 versions?

Which version of Kontakt 4 are you using? Does the "missing sample" error appear on loading the instrument, or right before it crashes?

4.23.4914, which is the latest version; but it was happening with the previous version as well.

Greg, this might be connected to that NCW irregularity I mentioned to you recently (NCW compressing Jaco doesn't convert all 3600+ samples, but about 2900, for unexplicable reasons).

Did you encounter any errors when you were extracting the RAR files for installing the library? I'm wondering if maybe one of the samples got corrupted, and is causing Kontakt to crash.

Just a few questions to help me round down what could be causing the problem:

Does the crash occur when you press a particular key, or does it just happen randomly?

Also, after loading it in Kontakt 4, did you re-save the patch? You could be right about it being a loading problem between K2 (the format of the NKI files) and K4.

That's true--sometimes NCW is unstable depending on the library/machine. Of course, whether or not that's related to the issue depends on if Steve converted it to NCW.

I don't know what NCW is. But I've had this since Xmas of 2009, and never had issues with it before, but I only need a fretless bass occasionally. I really think it happened when Kontakt converted it to its new sample handling format, which was the first K4.2. But yeah, I did re-save it, as it said you had to. Can't say whether it's happening on a particular note or not, as I'm just jamming when it happens. I can go key by key and see if happens after a note.

NCW is the new lossless compression for the samples. When it had you re-save the library, did it take a while, or was it just an instant "save" operation?

I didn't pay any attention Greg. I've got lots of 3rd-party stuff, and I've re-saved a number of products without incident. I didn't anticipate this being any different, if that indeed is the problem.

It probably isn't--when it resaves the patch using NCW compression, it makes a big deal out of it, and takes a little while to resave all the samples.
