...if vangelis had made the sound tracks for Alien it would have been my favorite classic sf. So I don't know...Blade Runner...Alien...ok, Blade Runner is my favorite.

I guess the perfect sf movie would be a matrix-ish version of Bruce Lee takes out Alian with Vangelis sound tracks in the background <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Grin]" title="" src="graemlins/1hihi.gif" />

Jorgen, you are making me want to put on "Albedo .039" when the Tangerine Dream I'm listening to is over!

Speaking of soundtracks, anyone heard "Assasin", Mark Shreeve's 1983 version of John Carpenter's theme to Assault on Precint 13? Brilliant! Sound like the Sisters Of Mercy covering Tangerine Dream!

Man, you guys are skipping over two of my all time faves . . . "Flash Gordon" (with soundtrack by Queen) . . . and, "Event Horizon" (another great, sci-fi/gothic film in the vein of "Dark City"). Oh, and let's not forget all of the Frankenstein flicks . . . Mary Shelley surely deserves credit for writing the first "science gone askew" story . . . even if it was based on the homonculus stories of early Judaism . . .

Other comments:

--"2001" . . . hated it . . . I heard they actually cut 20 minutes of ship-docking sequences out of it <yawn>! Conceptually stunning, but overrated by todays' standards. Clearly, this was written for a dated audience . . . seeing people/objects floating in zero-G is old hat these days . . .

--"Dune" . . . I want to see the mini-series version, because I read the book, but it was a very long time back . . . and the Lynch version sucked, IMO.

--I actually have autographs from Ray Bradbury, Larry Niven, and Jerry Pournelle . . . if anyone gives a shit . . .

Layyyter . . .

Har, Yes MST3K rules!Too bad they aren't in "business" anymore.
How could I have forgotten Fritz Lang's Metropolis??? It's my second favorite movie of all time(right after Python's Holy Grail).Put on some cool Techno music and watch Metropolis(Herbal enhancement optional). <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" />

Yes! For pure escapist fun, "Flash Gordon" is awesome. Another cheezy favorite was Roger Corman's "Battle Beyond The Stars"! What a hoot! Like John Carpenter's "Dark Star" before it, it was a proving ground for a lot of folks who later shook the genre to it's "foundations" (sorry!), including James Cameron, James Horner, and John Sayles.

I've never been much of a moviegoer, so my list of SF favorites is very
short: Forbidden Planet, The Time Machine (George Pal version), Brazil.

I may be the only person alive who will say this, but I loathed
Bladerunner. I had recently read _Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep_
(not exactly PKD's best book, but still worth reading), and the movie
got everything that mattered wrong. I left the theater furious.

I disliked most of Logan's Run, but it was worth sitting through -- once
-- to see Washington as a ghost town.

I read somewhere that PKD worked on a script for _Ubik_. If this is
true, and if the movie is made properly, that would be worth seeing.

It's the look (and the sound) of Blade Runner that most people enjoy. It's very much based on the Philip K Dick book rather than being a straight adaptation, but also introduces some interesting ideas of its own- like what do the replicants owe to their creator?, should they be grateful for the life they have or angry at the life they are denied?
Nothing can beat that beautiful opening sequence with the gas flames and the music....

Steve.
I know I have got a negative edge, that’s why I sharpen all the others a lot.

It's not a classic, but I love The American Astronaut. It's a hilarious retro Sci-Fi style film made by a NY musician. Well, I just wanted to test the new forum system...

1. Brazil : Surely the best movie I've ever watched in ANY genre...

2. Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home [maybe the only Star Trek that should be considered a classic]

3. Twelve Monkeys, I would have forgotten about this if other people hadn't brought it up.

4. The Life of Brian [yes, that's right, thanks to the aliens sequence... :D ]

5. The Alien series

I'm sure I forget so many great movies that it's a sin not to mention them, but I'm stuck right now... oh yeah, and Dark City too.

I think there was a remastered copy of Metropolis with some Techno music addad by someone famous. Cant remember who though.
Maybe Vangellis or Moroder.
Anyone know?

Planet of the Apes (the old one)- yeah, some cheesy lines in there, but it was an awesome movie.

Alien & Aliens- these might just be my favorite movies of all time. (3 & Resurrection were just ok) I just love the whole idea of the alien species- shiny black, lurk in darkness, look mean & nasty- gotta love 'em. :) I went into total geek-fan mode with this series...

Blade Runner- don't think I have to explain myself here...

The original Star Wars trilogy- I wanted to be Luke Skywalker when I was young... hell, I still do.

A Clockwork Orange- can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet(?). Killer movie.

THX 1138

Predator 2- better than the first one, but I really only like it for the Predator creatures. So where's the Aliens vs. Predator movie, and don't screw it up...

Dune- yeah, the book was better, but it's still pretty cool.

I'm sure there's others, but I don't wanna be here all day...
