Anyway... I'm new to this... and I'm a bit unclear as to whether I need to pull my song out or not. Whatever you folks decide though! Don't just let me because I'm new though.... I want to enter fair!

to be clear.. this ISN'T an already finished song I recycled. It was kindof in limbo at about 60% completion... And just recently, I worked on it for a good couple of days and finished it.

Tell me about it... although for me it wasn't quite that bad.bluedad wrote:yeah, there's nothing like being at the 11th hour and scrapping the tune you've been working on and starting another.
Since I started my song when the free-for-all was announced, I've had to scrap the entire original concept, try something else, only to decide the original concept was better afterall, but with a twist. In the process, I performed (and scrapped) about 100 vocal takes and variations before I finally settled on something that KIND of works. It's been a crazy month. There's more I want to do, but I'm outta time! Exactly the point of the contest, I expect.
I'll get some final mixing tweaks done and submit it, for better or worse, by tomorrow.

Hello, all
I've been lurking here for a few months. I've thought entering the contest a few times before, but my instrumental compositions are rarely adequate for the theme of the month...
Given the free for all theme this month, I finally got the courage to put something together and share it with you all.
I'm a newbie, so any feedback from all you experienced people will be appreciated.

I would then suggest that you complete and post your comp to the contest.iiiDaNiii wrote:to be clear.. this ISN'T an already finished song I recycled. It was kindof in limbo at about 60% completion... And just recently, I worked on it for a good couple of days and finished it.

We'll let the masses speak!
I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent

I just found out that all the really good people will be sucked up into heaven on the 21st!![]()
I don't wanna go so soon!
I won't finish my song in time!
Is there some sort of appeal process?![]()
Do I have to become evil in order to stay behind?
Should I become an Island-hopping wild-man like Max?
Or maybe a Wiccan High Priest like EV?
Well, at least we know Scoops ain't going anywhere...
I'm still here and so are you, so get posting

I have no idea what your entry sounds like, but I'm considering giving you points for perseverance. Just hitting "rec" 100 times is a massive effort. That perfectionism ... are you Brian Wilson in disguise? I just hope you don't do a "Smile" but actually finish and publish it.

Let me assure you that you've made it sound far more noble than it was. It had more to do with my shiftless lack of direction, composing incompetence and absolute inability to write usable words (to use "lyrics" would be a grand overstatement) than anything else. That and a slightly overdeveloped sense of competitiveness (Hmm, maybe I am Brian Wilson...). I wasn't going to have vocals at all at first, but then I listened to more past contest winning entries and decided I better at least 1) have more of a concept than just creating some electronic music, and 2) include the only instrument I can actually reasonably play: my voice, even if only for a few seconds. Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I made the singing part particularly challenging, hence the reason for a bunch of those takes over many days.
As for the record button, I'm just thanking my lucky stars for cycle record.
Honestly, I'm sure when you all hear the final result, you'll be duely underwhelmed.
Anyway, I'm talking way too much. Should be posted tomorrow.

I like your attitude, and you inspired me to pick up the pieces of my project. It's turned into something hilarious, but at least I don't think it's boring. It's influenced by Jimmy Edgar's "XXX" album, New Order's track "Fine Time" and earlier New Order / Joy Division, shoegaze and psych rock. But in a sort of shit way (see, I can do self-deprecation, too). Need to improve the drum tracks before mixing, but it should be ready tomorrow.

Cool,
Looking forward to it! See Scoops? You've got the musical hacks inspiring each other!
All part of your master plan, I'm sure.
I've enjoyed and been inspired by all the entries so far. I'll expound on that later, right now I've got to finish this damn song up...

Still curious.D.H. Miltz wrote:ohmdsp, from the series of posts in the submissions thread I got the impression that your (second) entry is a recycled already-finished song ("ah, that one's too long, I'll just enter this one instead"). Is that right?
