Well that makes sense if you want more multisampled instruments then go that route.

Torgo, I disagree with your disagreement. ;) Haha. Seriously, the Bluegrass loops ARE what make those dobro and mandolin riffs great. I've heard some people who are Bluegrass fans say it is some of the best sounding performances and recordings they've heard in samples. I didn't record those myself but the people in Nashville who did it really knocked it out pretty darn good. Everyone has their taste but if someone WAS looking for dobro and mandolin LOOPS I think this is a fine choice... even if it wasn't a FREEBIE on top of a great deal. But since it is... I'm sorry but I can't find more of a no-brainer to pick it up if that's what someone is looking for.

But in this case the World Instruments would be a good choice I think so you can perform yourself. Only thing is, I find a mix of dobro loops and multisamples works best for fooling the ear since there are all of these slides and effects involved. A mix of the titles can work best. Anyway, multiple opinions... in the end each person has to decide themselves what they think and the only way to know is to get it. At least we're talking about extra freebies though so how wrong can you really go?

Holy moley, we have some momentum now! I'd say 400 is not out of the question at all. I haven't even had time to sort out the third freebie yet!

The pace from the last two days (more than 10 sales per day) would indeed be enough to put us up to 400 by the end of May 31. The question is whether that pace can continue. We had great momentum during the first week of May but stalled out the following week.

I've been noodling around with the Clean Piano from the Hip Hop Instruments set today. That is indeed a fine acoustic piano sound. I wonder why SR didn't include it in the Piano Collection 2. It would have been a great addition to that set.

Thanks, James! And welcome to the KVR forum!

Which of these ST-based instruments caught your eye and got you to jump on board?

Hi torgo,

Thanks for the welcome. It was the Miroslav Philharmonik.

I've appreciated you sharing a wealth of knowledge on this thread :D

I still like the sounds, but nothing has been easy about this process. I don't mean to sound like a "technical whimp/cry baby" but each step has been difficult....and I'll take the blame for parts of the process

1 Ordering the product confused me if it was a download or physical CD package

2 It took a couple of days to get the serial number which added to my confusion if it was a download. Alan did respond for clarification when I emailed.

3 The serial #, authorization code, downloading process is quite confusing. Before I could figure it all out, I tried downloading the demo version to see if it was a full version that would unlock after authorization, but it wasn't so some how I got a few of the sample sounds from there going.

4 After finally getting the program downloaded, I tried loading the version that was on the download page, but I couldn't find any sounds, so I went through the history downloads and installed each program going through the verification process each time. I'm still not sure I found all the sounds....to be fair though, my C drive has been maxed out for a while so I've been trying to put everything music related on a much bigger external hard drive, but some things seems to automatically default to the c drive. It seems to cause a problem with verifications and were sounds are stored and accessing them.

5 I tried to get the free Tank2 up and running.....which it still asks for authorization which I've tried to do many times....but I was able to get it going in my Sonar X1 and I was able to find a few to run......but Man, that black lettering on a red screen is hard to see/read

So where am I now?

I've only found a few sounds....can't get anything "combi" to work
I can't find Philharmonik in my DAW yet after running my plug-in manager scan

I'm not really trying to complain; just sharing how difficult the process has been, because it seemed like part of the target market was "new customers" to IK Multimedia....I've been a born and raised on Cakewalk....from Guitar Tracks versions 1, 2, 3, pro, then to Sonar Studio, to Producer now X1.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll be spending more time combing the forums for similar stories to guide my fixes.....we've all been here right?

.......I'd rather be songwriting, but such is the process.....

On a positive note :), it's encouraging to see the tech support is quite supportive from others experiences and I am still happy with jumping in to the group buy.....it's just been more difficult than I anticipated to get up and running.

Thanks again for the welcome and helpful info. I'll be going back and rereading a lot of your posts once I get under way

James

You can change the color and contrast of the screen in SampleTank, there are little tiny knobs for the purpose on the side. I don't know if anyone can look at the default red for too long without, well, seeing red.

Hi James,

her's a little help form an earlier page regarding how to find the miroslav sounds.
dmorrill wrote:- Copy the serial number from your esoundz "My Downloads" page.
- Go to the IK Multimedia web site and log-in to your IK account.
- Once logged-in, click on the "Product Registration" link under the "Support" heading in the left-hand column of the page ("Support" is the second heading).
- You should end up on the "Welcome to IK Multimedia Product Registration Page". Now paste your esoundz serial number into the "Serial Number" field of the form, fill out any other fields as needed, then click the "Submit" button near the bottom of the page.
- Assuming all went well, you should then click on the "User Area" link near the top of the page, then click on the "Downloads" link to download the plugin for your product, or the "Sounds Download" link to download the sample files.

Thanks everyone! Glad to see we have an active community here to help the newcomers!

Yes, the process can be frustrating for new folks. Last year's big group buy had a "cheat sheet" of instructions for new purchasers.

Here's a quick recap for anyone else coming aboard:

The $99 promotion is an IK deal. But the group buy (getting the extra bonuses) is an esoundz deal. They're separate companies, so we end up having to go back and forth between the two web sites.

(1) order the instrument you want from esoundz. They're labeled "Hot Buy Group Buy". And be sure to list somebody - ANYBODY - in that place for referrals on the order page. You and that user will get epointz (rebates that are good towards future purchases) just for filling in the referral line.

(2) The serial number to register your product will appear in your User Area on the esoundz web site. They fill orders by hand, so be patient - especially if you are ordering outside of regular business hours.

(3) IK's approach is that you register your downloaded programs first, then you get them. So you take that serial number and register it on the IK Multimedia web site. Product Registration is in the Support area.

(4) After you register your product, the program and sounds will appear in your User Area on the IK Multimedia site. There's a "Downloads" page and a "Sounds Download" page. The instrument's interface will be in Downloads, and its sounds will be in Sounds Download. Make sure you get both.

(5) IK gives you a 30-day time limit to download the instrument's sound library from the Sounds Download page. Make backup copies as soon as you get it. It won't be there forever, and IK charges a "convenience fee" to put the library back up for you to download it again.

(6) While you're at the IK web site, be sure to grab SampleTank Free. You'll also find the free Amplitube 3 Free. If you don't have SampleTank already, you'll need SampleTank Free to play the sounds in your bonuses. It can also play the sounds from the other four instruments.

(7) The extra bonus libraries all come from the esoundz web site. The links you'll need to make your choices will be in your esoundz User Area. You click one of the links, and it takes you to a web page at DownloadableSoundz (which is the same company as esoundz) where you choose a bonus.

(7+1) DownloadableSoundz is the same company as esoundz, but the User Area is kept separate from the User Area on esoundz. (We're told it's a different server with greater bandwidth.) The bonus library you chose will probably be in your User Area on the DownloadableSoundz site. But check your Esoundz user area too - the Miroslav Outtakes library will likely appear there when it's finally released.

Hopefully that will make things a little smoother for the next new user...

I believe all great software is like an onion, in that there are many layers that can be peeled away to discover new things. I've been messing around with Miroslav Classik, and I finally tried the "Legato" button on a violin. It sounded so horrible, I knew something was wrong. The user's guide mentions the button, but doesn't tell you how to fix the problem. Then, I watched Squid's video on Stretch ( in video demos on IK's Miroslav page ). That was the missing piece to the puzzle. With Stretch, the legato worked, and a whole new world of expressiveness has opened up.

I currently use a Yamaha P-95 as a controller keyboard, so there's no pitch or mod wheel. After watching the videos, it seems pretty clear that these are vital for true expressiveness. So I'm curious what you guys think about pitch and mod wheel vs. the joystick type controller. Is it purely personal preference, or are there clear advantages for one over the other when working with Miroslav?

Thanks,
osidenick (here and at esoundz)
