"Return to Home Planet"
Mike777 (aka Michael John)

My entry uploaded. This is the fifth and final song in my five work series about Fractured Planet. (All five posted in OSC contests). Creating the piece was difficult because I had to bounce at least half of the presets I wanted to use on my old single core PC. Even selecting 1 voice stack didn't help.

And then I found I had to divide up 4-6 part polyphony tracks. With all the bouncing etc I ended with 90 tracks in my host! Using about 20-25 different preset sounds from the synth.

MUSIC CONCEPT

Work 1 - "Fractured Planet" (OSC 22):
After a planet suffered major earthquakes it lost it's magnetic shield and became too unstable to live on.

Work 2 - "Fluorescent Sky" (OSC 24):
The people were safely transported off the planet. From the departing spaceship, they sadly watched the unprotected atmosphere of the planet 'light up' with 'fluorescent' auroras.

Work 3 - "Hymn For The Lost Planet" (OSC 25):
The lost planet was remembered in this requiem/hymn.

Work 4 - "Restore A Planet To Life" (OSC 26):
Safe on a nearby planet, they began a 60 year project to restore Fractured Planet back to life.

and now the final work:

Work 5 - "Return to Home Planet" FINALE
The 60 year project to stabilize and restore Fractured Planet was a success. The magnetic shield has been restored, and the planet has been re-seeded with plants and animals. Now, the children, and some elders who were alive at the time, begin their journey back to their home planet. What awaits them? A restored, beautiful planet.

so what can I use for side chain compression if the SSS side chain compressor doesn't work for me? Crashes Ableton every time i load it.

I created a piece a few weeks ago, just before I knew about this contest. It uses Tyrell only. I haven't done anything with it except post it on Soundcloud. Can I enter it into the contest (so long as I stick to the rules)?

Here's the piece: http://soundcloud.com/mike-leghorn/tyrell-in-hell

Thanks,

The rules say: "Your entry must be composed specifically for this contest".

@Mike: Nice job to finish with those kinds of difficulties Mike. My last machine had the same specs and just about drove me nuts with all the bouncing and crackling all the time.

@Irion: Good list but don't think Melda or Budde do external SC? Although the Budde one loads vsti's inside it, how weird is that, someone able to explain how it works?

Irion - have you used the Martin Eastwood compressor? I bet it's pretty good - I'm using his verb for the contest - quality stuff. Alas - no AU version of the compressor.

Now I'm off to find an AU compressor with side-chaining...

I usually use Ferric TDS as compressor for mastering and Thomas Mundt LoudMax as Limiter BrickWall. I really never used a sidechaining compressor before. But i will need for my Trance compositions in the future.

Use the Search Page to find an AU compressor. I haven't time right now, sorry.

thanks dude! :highfive: i did several google searches but was having a hardtime sorting through the compressors with side chaining and those without it. not to mention the SSS showed up in like 15 of 20 search results lol

You could also try IQ4gui, a freeware sidechain EQ. I used the sidechain compressor to lower the attack of the bass with the bassdrum as trigger.

so would i not be able to use ReaComp because it's only available on Windows? Just trying to get the rules straight : ) loving this synth tho, so diverse.

V'ger wrote:Despite Mac-ers supposed power and malware advantage, the larger plugin selection for Win-ers is definitely a point to skew things so for cross platform synths should be ditto FX, agree. Should've done it with this one as you've raised it before, but plain old forgot. Next one.

So, i think you can use plugins, which are only available for one OS.

Correct, any plugin at all as long as it's free and easily available to all. But this might be changed in the future for cross-platform synths so as not to give too much advantage to PC users.

Btw, another compressor with external sidechaining is Density: (only PC alas)
