Yeah, do an ebay search on "Daily Mirror Lego" and you'll see hundreds of them. My son is nuts about Lego.

It comes up as the first item in a Facebook search (after logging in). I don't know if that's the same in all regions though.

The link is here:-

Even your link is not shown here.. ;)

The download links are in the Exclusive Content section accessed via the left sidebar. You will only see the download links if you are signed into Facebook and have clicked the "like" button at the top of the Welcome tab.

Hope this helps

This is quite easy to answer.

We give people something they want (a free plugin) in return for a click on a button on a website they probably already use. Apologies to the "facebook-ugh" crowd but there are now more people that use it than don't.

After they've helped themselves to the free download, people can then go on to post or comment on the Facebook page and then it becomes a kind of interactive forum where we can talk to the people who've taken advantage of the offer. It isn't one-way, they can just as much send out messages to other community members as we can. It isn't top-down anymore with the company at the top pushing out marketing messages. That's very interesting and exciting and we didn't have to pay a cent to set up the infrastructure - it's already out there and nigh-on everybody uses it daily.

Consider the alternatives - the cheap option is just to stick it as a free download on the main site for all to take. Everyone comes along and grabs it, if we're lucky we might get some stats in Google Analytics about what browser they use and then they're gone, never to be seen again. This is equivalent to standing in the street handing out samples of Coca-Cola to passersby.

The other alternative would be to force registration or forum membership on people in return for the download. If we're lucky we could get a little community going and hear what our customers are saying. But we'd have to build the infrastructure ourselves and try and attract people to another community in addition to the ones they are already members in. I don't know about you but I'm a member of so many forums I can't possibly visit them all to find out what people are saying about our company. But I'm on Facebook all the time, courtesy of the iPhone app.

For every 1 person who says they won't use Facebook there seems to be about 100 who do. I can't complain about those stats to be honest

Try not to forget the other 1.3 billion who have no choice, but to not see fb.
I did like the plugin, when it worked on my g4.
So thanks a lot for that, and the other ones on the CM disk.
You've been doing this along time, so thanks for sharing with the rest of us.

Many thanks, I'll give it a try!

They're not forgotten. But they are just as unreachable to us as the other millions of people who don't speak english and don't understand our website, blog, facebook page, KVR posts, emails etc. Or even those millions more musicians who don't have the internet and so on.

As a small company we can't possibly reach *all* of our potential audience.

In fact, we can only really service a fraction of the potential worldwide customer base for a FREE product (which is radically larger than the potential worldwide customer base of a paid-for product I can tell you). It makes sense then to use promotional channels that reach out to as many of those people in our serviceable market as possible.

Kind regards
Dave
