With some routing, you can get a sort of sidechaining working for Mac if SSS aint working, especially if it's just about kick ducking something:

Bravo! My current favorite I think...
Thanks :D

Don't know why I didn't used Density, which I've also installed..

I also tried Compressive Pro and ReaComp some time ago, but I couldn't handle those. Altogether a solid collection of sidechainers.

Post

thanks!I've been trying a few, but I can't seem to get that good pumping sound you can get with the ableton compressor when side-chaining? maybe i'm doing it wrong?

Post

A little trick if you don't have side-chain compression for kick/bass is to set the attack of the bass amp envelope (and sometimes the envelope controlling the cutoff filter if that applies) just a notch slower so the kick attack comes first. Then of course just make sure they sit in different EQ space on the low end (put a little notch in the bass where the kick lies heavy). It's not perfect but it helps.

sMexoscope (which is free) is awesome for watching the effect - solo both and tweak away :)
Of course, pumping's a whole different story...

The easiest "side-chain compressor" :hihi:. VST for windows.
Um, i'm going to make a good skin for that.

My song it's almost ready.
Finally i'm going to upload only one. I'm having a headache with mastering, as usually... :hihi:

Built-In Synth Effect used: None.

Explanation

8 synths Tyrell Nexus 6 mixed with free effects in a structured song.
Used Main Host EQ in all channels.
Some Automations; LowpassFilter for the Pads and Plucks, and Channel volumes.
Thomas Mundt Loudmax, Flux Stereo Tool and Ferric TDS in the main Mixer Channel.
An ambient-soundtrack 5:04 minutes length song for listen.

Notes

I had CPU peaks in the middle of the song, where all synths was eating CPU at same time.
What i made for release some CPU it was dumping into wavefiles-loops some patterns, in fact, only the rithmic part. 3 instances. And of course, i needed to bypass vst effects everytime.
So i could release some CPU for listen the channels response with others channels and tweak the EQ, levels, pan, etc...
Once i listened how was going to sound the whole part with all "instruments" activated, i just deleted the wavefiles and turn ON again all the synths, and i would never come back to play that crackly nightmare, haha.
Of course, all my synths were in Monophonic mode with one voice stack, except "Pads", "Chord Plucks" and "saturated Flute" sound, this last was in 'legato' mode.

I dealed with it, my CPU did. It was an easygoing to make track, so i had not many problems compared to the other song, the first i was making and is not finished yet (i don't know if i will upload or not).
So i needed to make a easy-to-make track, because i was very limited for my low equip.
I just had headache when Mastering and making those dumped channels which i didn't use later to render the track.

As you can see, i used too many delays in parallel, well, that was for making nice delay effects and rithmic patterns.

So again, i'm happy and grateful with the hard work.

Tyrell sounds good, it has real quality and tweaky factor everywhere; a beast within, but my low CPU can't deal with it for a fast workflow for make tracks in real-time (and this is very important), so i will use Tyrell in the future when i have a better CPU. No doubt.
But at this moment, is all i can do with my old system.

The song
  • An ultimate call from the phone booth.
Two hours in the rain that night trying to convince you.
    An ultimate unfulfilled desire.
    The answer was a 'No'.
    The call was cut off.

[The song starts, here is my feeling]

I let myself in front of that phone booth some seconds, trying to understand.

    After three years together...
That call marked my life forever.

I felt nothing even. I could not...I was numb. Just in that moment.
I just ran home completely soaked.

I remember I thought: 'Tomorrow will be a tough day...'
It sounds like a drama film, uh? well, this is one of my personal and sad stories... I have a lot of them to tell.
But thanks to them, i can make tracks and express myself through music.

If there is something wrong with my song, just let me know, please!
As usually, i hope you all enjoy my track and good luck to contesters! :)

Hi there,
here's my entry: CapDan - Dis-Cussion (a mix of Dis-Harmony and PerCussion)

I used FL Studio 10 and 20 instances of Tyrell N6. (8 for drums)
I also used following freeware effects: VarietyOfSound NastyDLA, Kjaerhus Audio Classic Auto-Filter, Classic Delay and Classic Reverb and Kirnu Arpeggiator.

The whole project used around 97% CPU power on my system so I lowered the voice stack on some sounds. I was able to finish the project without bouncing/freezing.

Because I suck at keys and harmonies instead of doing chords and progressions I always start a new phrase. So it became a kind of Q&A. Like I already wrote in the soundcloud description, at the end this sounds like a typical kvr-thread;)

Post

Hi Everyone! FYI... I made some slight modifications to my entry (mleghorn - Isle of the Dead). I raised the volume, and tweaked a couple things. You know, the louder the better :-) If you've already downloaded my track, please download it again.

Thanks,
Mike

After I modified my track and uploaded it again, I noticed it no longer plays when you click on it in the player on the home page for this contest. Does anyone know why?

Thanks,
Mike

My very first entry into a OSC, nervous but excited...Enjoy and please give me some feedback..Much appreciated!!!

Ok! ok! I admit... on my voyages of sonic disco-veries, I could not leave Tyrella the disco-belly dancer behind... She is b-e-a-t-i-f-u-l.... fulla energy :hihi: So here goes!!!

Title: Tyrella the belly dancer
Composer: TB4C

Here is the secret recipe (don't tell Colonel Saunders)

14 instances of Tyrell
dash of "STARDUST"!
A "WIDEBUG" to broaden the tyrectric guitars
A "WIDEBUG" to narrow the fattend bass
DVS delay
Classic compressor
classic masterlimiter
Classic reverb

All of this cooked in my Sonar 8.5 Pro pot burning on a duel core 3ghz processor with 4 gb ram.

Eventually the pot cooked over, so some freezing had to be done
The notes you don't play creates the silent gaps for you to hear the notes you do play :phones:

11 synths Tyrell Nexus 6 mixed with free effects in a structured song.
Used Main Host EQ in mostly of channels.
Some Automations in Bass CutOff, Pads Cutoff, FeedBack Delay, Reverb Effect Dry/Wet and Channel Volumes.
Flux Stereo Tool and Ferric TDS in the main Mixer Channel.
An ambient-trancey 5:05 minutes length song for relax and making you abstracted.
Firstly i hadn't the thought to upload it, because uploading 2 tracks for the contest is a double-edged weapon. But bah, i just wanted to share with all of you. So i hope you enjoy my song.
There you go.

Notes

Well, what i could say, it was a nightmare, specially at beginning. Creation of this track took me about 20 hours and 25 minutes.
Bouncing everywhere, activate this, deactivate that, render to wave, EQ comparing with another channel, comparing volumes too, some clips and pops when dumping, render again...
I tried to do it as easy as possible, because i knew this song was going to be almost impossible in my low equip, but even in 'easy' mode, it was a nightmare.
I hope this will be the last time, hehe.
Anyway, as usually, i'm very happy with the hard work. It worth it.

This was the first song i started for the OSC, later, when i was about to finish, i started the another one.
I felt a bit dissatisfied with the whole song, because the "saturated flute" was a original idea for this song, but for some reason, i couldn't put into the mix, so i needed to create the another song only for the "saturated flute" idea.
Now that this track is finished, i'm more satisfied than before.
This is the cerebral song i made. Complex structure, hard to make it work, as a contrast to the another track, which is simpler and more feeling into it.
Cerebral VS Feeling. Nothing more to say.

The song

Well, i'm a very abstracted person, i'm always daydreaming, imagining, even when i'm walking on streets. I live my life dreaming and daydreaming the most part of time.
So i wanted to express when you are talking with a person, or making anything, and gradually, you begin to imagine inevitably and going deeper and deeper into your inner world.
Sometimes i don't know if i'm awake or i'm already dreaming. And suddently, just when you were about to stay completely abstracted, one recognizable voice says to you:
'Hey, wake up, come back to reality'. This is when you must release your imagination and return to the real world. [The last seconds of the song]
A bit trancey-ambient song to relax.

If there is any problem with the song, just let me know, as usually.
And nothing more to say, just enjoy my two tracks this month, i hope you all like them, and good luck everyone :)

Ok, just uploaded an updated version of my track - Vulcan Jazz. I've only done some tweakings on the EQ settings and lesser compression / limiting.
Think it sounds better now.
At least on soundcloud itself it sounds the same as before, hehe. :hihi:
So please re-download it for better quality.

After the contest is over I will upload the track to my soundcloud account in full wave quality. Mp3 conversion destroys all the transients and makes them sound like s**t!
