If I win I promise I'll have a tattoo on my butt with all the names of the people who voted for me! :hihi:
Now, if I had only known about this a little bit earlier..............
:D

I've just thought though, you can't really trust tattooists to write what you ask 'em to. At best they'll spell it wrong, worst you'll have 'insert here' spread across your cheeks..

OK, *ahem*... Seems this thread could use a little help from the local railroad to get back on the rails.

I've been listening to every track multiple times as they've appeared, right from the very beginning, thinking this would help me in the end to decide. Maybe it helped some, but I've found it very necessary to listen to them all again, multiple times over several days, and so have most laboriously put together the following list.

As most have said to this point, I too found this a very difficult process knowing full well I'm leaving many very good tracks behind. Let me just say to anyone who's track is not in this list, despite the reluctant exclusion, there's a very good chance I love your stuff anyway, and will make it just as regular a rotation player as those in this list.

And here we are:

1. PolyKBoogie -- PenguinFromDeep (10 pts.)
2. Intent -- Softska (9 pts.)
3. Wanderer -- Edteneyck (8 pts.)
4. Astral Vision -- Julian Ray (7 pts.)
5. Partir en Voyage -- Nielzie (6 pts.)
6. 22kg -- Gilj (5 pts.)
7. Ployamus -- Exhile (4 pts.)
8. Forgotten Landscape -- Mikusan (3 pts.)
9. Knossos -- Ayrick Sterret (2 pts.)
10. Eternity -- Exhile (1 pt.)

I really wanted to make comments on each track, and why I selected them as I did, but time prevents me. Suffice it to say I found these the Best of the Best, but by no means exclusive to that title.

I've really enjoyed this whole process (up until picking a top ten, which wasn't so fun), and I feel I've learned a lot through this experience, and especially through listening to all these tracks (and I mean all 41).

Post

My picks (EDIT high points to low, i.e. #1=10pts):
1. Poly's Date
2. Bracken
3. Soupe au poulet
4. 4PolyKBII1XILS3
5. Squawk
6. Wanderer
7. Square Root Dance
8. Luvphonic
9. Kevorkian Unplugged
10. Astral Vision

This playlist has kept me busy as it's grown over the last few weeks.

Great stuff...all of it!

After listening each entry several times I finally managed to separate the top ten. Here are my votes with some thoughts:

10 points: 31 - Andrelafosse - Squawk (Mad Professor in his laboratory. Totally insane, I absolutely loved it!)

9 points: 12 - Aresko - Bracken (Smooth, relaxed atmosphere. Good sounds and great production. Could have been even longer.)

8 points: 1 - Penguinfromdeep - PolykBoogie (Impressive bass part and nice solos. Sounds are very good and overall this piece is a pleasure to listen to.)

7 points: 17 - Bobby Bobby - Soupe au Poulet (Happy-go-lucky party mood, reminds of the 70s. Nice chord progression, although half way through the song I began to feel a bit bored.)

6 points: 36 - Julian Ray - Astral Vision (Nice, ambient atmosphere.)

5 points: 7 - Penguinfromdeep - Kobol Colony (Another good track from Penguinfromdeep. This could be a film soundtrack.)

4 points: 8 - Aresko - Secrets and Lies (Another track from Aresko. Again good production, but I still liked Aresko's Bracken better.)

3 points: 5 - Madsmac - Maurice sans chevaux (I liked the rhythmic element very much.)

2 points: 23 - Gilj - 22kg (Great sounds. I liked the pumping effect at first, but after a while it felt a bit too much.)

1 point: 24 - Mykola Domarestky - So Here It is Instrumental (The piano part was the one element that made me like this.)

And just to say, I may actually end up using my voucher as well - I've finally got round to having a proper play with Xils3 LE and its so much fun. Hopefully I'll have saved up enough for the upgrade by the end of June..

alright, here goes:

1. 31 Squawk André Lafosse - 10 p.

this is just pure awesome. the sounds are sort of harsh and wild, but in a very f**k-yeah-it's-good way. also, this is an impressive demonstration of xils' power and the wide range of sounds that can be squeezed out of it.

2. 4 Forgotten Landscape Mikusan - 9 p.

lovely ambient, especially that filter action pad in combination with rapoon-ish percussion. indeed, this whole track reminds me of rapoon, and that's a big compliment.

3. 2 Partir en Voyag Nielzie - 8 p.

this is the entry that inspired me to get xils 3 le myself. very, hmm, warm sounding and mellow, but with moody background tones. simple, but very lovely piece, hehe. I still like this very much (even after the 39 entries that followed).

4. 35 Paul Mahoux Sil3X Xuoham - 7 p.

I really like the setup and sounds on this one, something I might enjoy on a daily basis. the composition falls just a small bit short of that magic "click!" for me, though. but still this is a very enjoyable and high quality piece.

5. 22 Xils_comp3Mix1 Ftech - 6 p.

very nice and atmospheric track. makes me wanna travel and shows me images of all sorts of beautiful things. mostly some sort of nature landscapes. good beat, too.

6. 33 Kevorkian Unplugged Evo2slo - 5 p.

I love the beginning of this one, and the usage of a guitar, hell yeah. and that part at around 1.50, mmm. great track! tight competition, though

7. 26 Knossos Ayrick Sterret - 4 p.

not my cup of tea, this dance music (this is some sort of dance music, right?), but a very solid production, this. four points for that.

8. 13 Royal Highness Steve Webster - 3 p.

very 80s sounding (imo), but this is more like synth'n'roll in an epic rock kind of way. 80s have their place in my book, too, and this is a good specimen.

9. 17 Soupe Au Poulet BobbyBobby - 2 p.

solid production, not my type of music, but weirdly enough it fits into an "absurd movie soundtrack" box for me, brown suits, gentlemen and irrational smiling all around.

10. 18 Faradayed Nickster - 1 p.

I like the minimal sound of this, even though I wish it maybe had a bit more to it than it currently has. but still very nice.

phew, a few good hours listening all this and thinking and deciding, totally wasn't easy and many good tracks remained outta this boat, but fortunately there're others 'round here to correct my subjectivity with theirs.

also funny how I didn't think of renaming my track's filename, and so it became "24 no organ ending", which in reality was just a work title. the actual title was supposed to be "gutterhymn", but oh well, haha.

I find it hard to vote and yet being in the contest at the same time ! But in true spirit of "gentlemanly sportsmanship" I cast my votes without thinking tactically (as if that mattered for me now at this stage  ) I don't think anybody has been by the way !

My votes were given for : Use of the synths, sounds, composition, production, and a will to try something else (!), and also for glimpses of "sheer madness" !

10 : (35) Sil3X

9 : (12) Bracken

8 : (15) RelaXils

7 : (23) 22 kg

6 : (26) Knossos

5: (40) Intent

4 : (14) Space elevator

3 : (7) Kobol Colony

2 : (38 ) Shiny caravans

1 (1) PolyKboogie

Participating has been great fun, forcing me to think the music all over again, and also getting to know these beautiful synths better has been a treat in itself !

(There's still time to vote for me !!! 8) :D )

A great many thanks to those who already voted for my stuff :tu:

And hats off to the other contestants and their very fine (hard to choose from !) contributions
