Real Bassists to Learn From

Hi!

I was wondering who would you recommend to lookup on youtube to get a better grasp on how to program bass lines. I'm particularly interested in bassists that mix slap and fingered techniques so I can mimic it realistically. Maybe even the theory behind it?

Or if anyone could tell me what would be "off-limits" (i.e. sound artificial, not doable in real life) when mixing these two techniques?

You absolutely have the right idea about listening to real bassists in order to help your own bass tracks to sound more realistic. Even just paying attention and listening regularly to bassists will naturally build your ear and knowledge of the instrument.

Definitely start with the masters when it comes to slap bass... to name a few: Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, Alain Caron, Mark King.
