You have a creative imagination and a stunning ability to argue like a ten year old, that is all what is shown here!

The keyword is "general".
I made a general statement about the majority of people, not about individuals.
So there's still no need to be pissed, if the general statement doesn't count for you, since in that case it actually wasn't addressed at you.

History shows us, that in general people are not able to do their own choices. They do, what other people want them to do. No matter if it's propaganda used by a regime or effective marketing done by a company .. it works on most people.
Well, some of what you said here is rather close to HPC territory so I'll leave that alone...

However, how about this..instead of generalized talk about how people make poor consumer decisions what about how they can make better informed decisions? Or rather why are these decisions poor in the first place? I do not think that it is quite as bleak as all that....iPads/tablets and the like have been used in plenty of situations for all manner of things now a days...heck, my wife uses tablets to show her customers design mockups of what their place will look like after a make over of some sort....it sure beats walking around with several rolled up plans or even our laptop. The touch screen is sensitive enough to her touch that she can rotate the image around without going through a mouse at all...

It is like with cellphones vs smart phones now...you even mentioned how smart phones could be used as DAW controllers at one point..my favorite example is when I go around to various fleamarkets or antique shops..if I come across a piece of furniture that looks like it would suit a customer I could take a picture and download it to my wife's client and my wife and get an answer back in no time at all..rather than with a cellphone only ..which could mean a couple of hours wait for an answer..as I then would have to verbally explain the piece to the client and my wife separately...I have conference call on my smart phone.... :)

I also think that lots of things could be seen as toys...hell, my Mustang that i dumped a 429CJ into ..to me is a toy!! But...what is a toy? It brings pleasure to the person using it..and if it is a tablet/iPad than so be it...not all of us on this board are semi--or professional musicians either..

Well .. this is exactly, what I have already done.
I explained some of the benefits of notebooks and some of the disadvantages of tablets.

That's great. And I never said anything against it.

Again:
The statement was about, what would be better for most people, not for all.

Of course tablets have their place.
It's just, that a lot of people get such a device, where it's actually less optimal than a smartphone or notebook. Those people (again: NOT ALL PEOPLE, who bought a tablet) made the wrong decision for themselfs, without even reconizing it.
And why? Because tablets (especially the iPad) are "the new hot shi*".
Is this really that hard to understand?

There's no reason to be so defeinsive about it. If you know, why you use your iPad, then just don't feel addressed.

There's also no reason to be so angry about it .. well, at least if you have self-respect.

IncarnateX is probably one of those users, who bought an iPad even though a notebook/smartphone would be better for what he does with it. And he actually knows, that he's wrong, but he won't ever admit it. Not to me, not to anyone .. not even to hisself. Because he has a serious problem with being wrong.

If he wasn't one of those users, he wouldn't be so upset. There'd be no need to even think, he was meant as one of those users. But he knows, he is one of those users, and he knows, how stupid they look.
That's the reason, he's pissed, and that's the reason, why he will keep trolling/insulting.

But actually, nobody is stupid, because he made a bad decision. I wasted money on loads of crap. I know, first it's hard to accept ... but then you will do better next time.

Agree, this guy continues to proudly display his ignorance for all to see.

I just never understand some folks obsession with what device to use. The reason we have choices, is because we are all different. For me the iPad is just a joy to use, and I have no interest in going back to a laptop or a netbook. To someone else a desktop may be the only thing they get into, and just don't like laptops, smartphones or netbooks. Someone else may not care about any of them. None of them are toys, and all of them are good choices if they work for you. There is no right or wrong device, only what works for you.

And of course, just like in every case of true madness, the assertions of the mad man can not be falsified: If you deny them, you confirm them!

Thank you for providing such a classical case study :tu:

All this arguing is missing the point of why i started this thread. By all means keep going, just don't take things so personally, we're only talking about choices of computers and hardware. They do not define who you are.

Here's my story, for those of you who have missed the point entirely:

1.I bought a tablet because it was cheap. If it had been 400 euros I wouldn't have bothered. At 250 I could take the risk, if only to end up watching TV on it and surfing the internet. Yeah, 250 is a good price for a bit of fun technology.
2.My decision not to buy an iPad was mostly price based. In addition, they're not as much fun for tinkerers like me i.e. I can't just install other operating systems on an iPad. I have installed 5 or 6 operating systems on the WePad so far I think. Maybe more. I will install others no doubt.
3. Sadly, most operating systems on the WeTab were a fail with regards music software.
4. I discovered that Windows 7 is great on a touchscreen device. I also have loads of VSTs that run on Windows 7, and drivers for all my hardware. I installed a few drivers/VSTi's, took it to band practice, and it was an instant success.
5. With that discovery I had found myself a good use for the tablet and wanted to recommend it to others who may have wondered about trying out a touchscreen device but didn't want to shell out big money.
6. I thought about changing the title of the thread, but horse/bolted/etc

I'm not a pro musician. I do some live stuff locally. I am hoping this will be useful for one of my bands when we start doing gigs. Right now i'm still experimenting.

That's it. If you don't like the idea of one, don't get one. If you do, and you can afford to risk a few hundred euros then do it. If you're not sure, wait a bit, prices will come down even more.

wow, that's freakin amazing. I love my girlfriend's zune, and windows phone 7, the gui is just beautiful. so fun to use that stuff. it's really exciting to see some ui development crossing over into personal computers.

I have a win7 tablet - 2 gig ram, 1.6 ghz intel cpu, wifi, bluetooth, 64gig ssd. I really like it, but there is a serious lack of audio software for tablet computers. obviously I can use all my current stuff on it, but 11.5 x 7 makes it a bit tough to hit the right widgets, so I end up using the touchpen or a mouse, so it's purpose is defeated. I think that win8 will spur on some serious development in this area though. Hope hope hope.

I think if I had known about win8, I might have gone wth a netbook instead, and held out for a win8 tablet.

Still, I do love my tablet.
