The app store is having problems tonight (it's up one minute and down the next). As a lot of iDesignSound content is fed straight from iTunes it causes problems for us too. That is why the right hand side of the site won't load right now, because there is an iBook listed there. Also, the AppWall won't load at all as it is totally dependant on icons being fed from the App Store.

Might be another reason for me to implement page caching...

Post

I fixed the AppWall. Now only showing 200 apps (was 400).

Seems Apple are having trouble at the moment and they cut the limit on number of apps searchable through the Search API (and displayable through RSS). I took a look at a few other sites (anyone use AppAdvice.com?) and there Top 300 and 400 are down too.

If it gives me too much bother I shall just remove the page altogether. It is just the Top List of Music apps fed directly from iTunes and 99.9% of them suck anyway (and the sad thing is that this figure is probably accurate!)

Hi Alex

Could it be an idea to have a freeware section or search function at your site? It is my impression that there are some good free music apps out there, but I think they are hard to search for in the app store. An overview would be nice.

In the meanwhile: Thumbs up for all your good work!

Good idea! Here you go...

New Free Apps Category

I'm afraid there are not many there at the moment. I do have a lot of excellent free and paid apps to add though so keep checking back daily.

I'll list all the best free ones for you. I made a decision when creating the site not to list Lite versions of apps though as these are usually demos for the full versions. If a free app contains full unrestricted functionality it will get listed though.

I do intend to add app search/sorting by price but that will come a little later. For now I hope the Free Apps category helps :) You can access the Free Apps category through the main AppCategories Menu, or through the Browse iOS Audio Apps navigation / All Devices / Free Apps.

Thanks again for the suggestion!

Great! Thanks a whole bloody lot. You are very effective. BTW I agree with respect to the light version, they are usually very limited or even crippled demos. Thanks again, mate :)

Hi again Alex
thanks again for your site, it rocks!
Can I kindly suggest another search category or section?
My main criterion for buying apps is that they support copy and paste for easy transfer. Sonoma has an approach and there is the generel pasteboard option, which can be used in conjunction with sonoma. Apps with the sonoma system are listed here

http://www.sonomawireworks.com/iphone/mapi/

but those with generel pasteboard transfer are not listed anywhere to my knowledge. It includes the apps in my sig and I can find others and list them here if you would implement it. If not now, then in time?

Hi,

I do have a few of those type of categories lined up...

iOS Audio Apps that support Sonoma AudioCopy / AudioPaste

iOS Audio Apps that support Akai SynthStation25

iOS Audio Apps that support Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer

iOS Audio Apps that support CoreMIDI

But General PasteBoard wasn't one of them I'm afraid.

If you think it would be useful I can add it fairly easily.

That would be great. You can use general pasteboard with sonoma, which is important for producers who appriciate the feature and do not want to be dependent on PCs for transfer. It seems very requested because more and more developers implement it. With the general pasteboard list, your site would cover it all.

Best Regards..

Here are a list of apps that support General pasteboard transfer as import or export or both.

AudioForge
Aurora HD
Argon
Beatmaker
Beatmaker II
Bleep!Box
Electrify
FunkBox
Garageband
iVoxel
MiniSynth Pro
Meteor
Noise.io Pro
SynthTronica
Xenon

There are probably more, but this is what I can report from my own arsenal.

Best Regards

New iDesignSound WebApp

While you wait for the iDesignSound Native iPhone App to arrive (yes that's right, it's coming soon, and it will be free!) please add our new WebApp to your iPhone home screen.

Just visit idesignsound.com in Mobile Safari and choose "Add to Home Screen" from the bottom menu. This will install our WebApp on to your iPhone home screen (with a nice shiny app icon). You'll then have a direct link to the new iPhone friendly version of the website so you can check the latest news and browse the latest additions to the Audio App database while you're on the move!

Image

You can use the My Wishlist feature here too. If you spot an app you want to save for later just click "Add" at the top of the App description. The app will then be saved to your personal Wishlist on your iPhone for future reference. You can then access your saved apps on your iPhone at any time.

The benefit of having iDesignSounds right on your iPhone is that when you buy an app by clicking through from the iDesignSound WebApp it will open up iTunes right on your device so you can install your new app onto your iPhone right there and then.

The Native app shouldn't be too long away now (maybe 3-4 weeks away) so I'll post here once the native app is available in the AppStore. Until then I hope you all enjoy the WebApp! :)

Definitely a bookmark for daily checking
Hi Steve,

I've just completed an major update of the site to (hopefully) increase the performance. I am hoping you will see a significant improvement in speed. Could you take a good surf around the site and let me know if you find it any better?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Alex,

Yes, my experience is that the site is now quicker on 3g and at home.

Cheers and keep up the good work!
