I know it's nonsense/all in the mind Hink, but I've always felt maple frerboards are faster than rosewoodHink wrote:timing is everything...first Ian I am like you, I miss a maple neck and that's why I want to use the tele neck I have from my baritone conversion (which is maple too) but nothing is like a worn maple neck (like beck's old broadcaster).
So I get an AMS catalog (though the link will be zzzsounds) and this was in it

399 aint bad and I think I might see if I can find one at GC to try...naturally I would swap out the floyd rose and put in one of mine and I would change the pick-ups

I don't know about that but I think there is a tone difference, I have owned more rosewood fretboards but I always prefered maple but that doesn't make it betterIan B wrote:I know it's nonsense/all in the mind Hink, but I've always felt maple frerboards are faster than rosewoodHink wrote:timing is everything...first Ian I am like you, I miss a maple neck and that's why I want to use the tele neck I have from my baritone conversion (which is maple too) but nothing is like a worn maple neck (like beck's old broadcaster).

Thinking about it, my impression of maple boards being faster than rosewood is almost certainly down to the fact all the maple boards I've had have been heavily lacquered.Hink wrote:I don't know about that but I think there is a tone difference, I have owned more rosewood fretboards but I always prefered maple but that doesn't make it betterIan B wrote:I know it's nonsense/all in the mind Hink, but I've always felt maple frerboards are faster than rosewoodHink wrote:timing is everything...first Ian I am like you, I miss a maple neck and that's why I want to use the tele neck I have from my baritone conversion (which is maple too) but nothing is like a worn maple neck (like beck's old broadcaster).

interesting point.
However, my two newest ibby's are both rosewood and they are the FASTEST necks I've ever played (to the point of ridiculous)
And my charvel is "gunoiled" maple I believe......but it certainly has more "snap" than the ibby's

I've been looking at this.

and this

Does anyone know anything about these or these companies in general?

Cort tends to be way underrated. Their guitars are made in Indonesia, usually from well mixed materials. Although it may vary, the build quality is generally good; but the pots tend to be a little prone to clicks. You may want to try a Cort before buying, so I'd suggest going into stores instead of ordering.

I don't care for heavy lacquer on necks but speed is so different for everyone, when I play fast solos I often play on top of the neck as opposed to gripping it tight...one thing I could never learn to like was that fast fret stuff. If the neck is too slick I tend to over shoot my target frets. For me when I'm playing fast I rely on feel, touch and familiarity. I think in terms of blocks and patterns within the block depending on the scale or mode and the overall feel I want from the part. The transition between 'blocks' for me is critical once I have worked out the pattern I want I switch to auto-pilot for each block but if I blow the transition everything gets thrown off...which actually is not ALWAYS a bad thing. But still I don't like a slick neckIan B wrote:Thinking about it, my impression of maple boards being faster than rosewood is almost certainly down to the fact all the maple boards I've had have been heavily lacquered.Hink wrote:I don't know about that but I think there is a tone difference, I have owned more rosewood fretboards butpreferreds prefered maple but that doesn't make it betterIan B wrote:I know it's nonsense/all in the mind Hink, but I've always felt maple frerboards are faster than rosewoodHink wrote:timing is everything...first Ian I am like you, I miss a maple neck and that's why I want to use the tele neck I have from my baritone conversion (which is maple too) but nothing is like a worn maple neck (like beck's old broadcaster).

I find that Harmony Central is the best source when I don't know much about a company...a lot of great reviews thereP.T. wrote:I've been looking at this.

I had a Cort M500 some years ago and it was brilliant, fantastic value for money but was then stupidly sold only to be added to the list of guitars I wished I still owned not long after selling it.

Cort also made Dearmond's(Guild's budget import line) of the late 90's/early 2000's at their Korean plant. These guitars are really underrated and well constructed. I've owned four of them.Ian B wrote:+1davidka wrote:Cort tends to be way underrated. Their guitars are made in Indonesia, usually from well mixed materials. Since this seems to be the guitar junky thread I'll post this here.
I have had my replacement neck sitting on a chair in the lounge for about 14 months
so I've decided it must be getting close to the time to get it installed onto the guitar.
However;
It has a 22 fret fingerboard and I have decided to replace it with a 24 fret fingerboard. I have the choice of compound radius or traditional single radius.
I have never used a compound radius. Any opinions
on the two different board styles.
Apparently from what I have read compound Radius flattens out like a classical guitar.

I had to make a painful choice, but here's my next wallet shipwreck :

I can handle it with my hands, and make a lot of noise with it. G&L Asat will wait a little.

are you going to replace the fingerboard yourself? I tried once with an old Warmoth neck...now I have a Warmoth neck with no fingerboardxtp wrote:Since this seems to be the guitar junky thread I'll post this here.![]()

We just bought one of those... Fantastic tone/value ratio, it's rather good for those heavy, cutting lead sounds; making neighbours angry when I practice at night. Of course it has it's drawbacks: The strings are a bit hard on my fingers...stanlea wrote:I had to make a painful choice, but here's my next wallet shipwreck :
