Hey guys,

Besides wanting to start a thread for the yet-unnamed jazz/rock flute library for future updates and announcements, I wanted to give you an early glimpse at how the sample library is shaping up.

Here's something I played from my MIDI keyboard, completely live:

http://www.box.net/shared/d35xj60of0x0drc2m8qi

I'm using the mod wheel for dynamics. The vibrato is completely scripted, so its speed and depth will be entirely dynamic. At this point though, the vibrato is just set to kick in after half a second of sustaining the note, at a set speed.

As you can tell from the audio file, the releases on the notes need some work as with some of the legato transitions. I'm also going to be programming in some intelligence to automatically add the the dynamics based on your phrasing, speed, and velocity of the notes. Of course, there will also be the ability to turn all that off if you want complete manual control, or wish to play it with a breath/wind controller.

Because we sampled the flute with many different mic signals, you have a bunch of tonal/mixing options. For example, we sampled it with two close mics--one bright modern condenser mic, and then a vintage ribbon mic for that warm, rounded tone. There's an omni mid mic, and finally a stereo condenser pair for the room. There will be build in mixing controls in the interface, including ready-to-go factory presets as well as the ability to save/load presets.

Anyway, just wanted to keep you all updated on the latest goings-on at Orange Tree Samples. :)

Very nice Greg. Sounds great. Looking forward to it. :)

By the way, we also sampled a LOT of flute screams, growls, harmonics, percussive noises, and other effects.

My mind. It has been blown. I have the Warp IV flute which is fantastic-sounding but those keyswitches - god, you have to have the chart in front of you at all times and plan every last articulation in advance.

CANNOT wait for this! ETA Greg? :D

Very pretty.

I'll stay tuned.

Great!

I think I'll have a better idea of the ETA once I get the audio side satisfactory and start working on the interface. I've gotta finish this so I can continue working on the Evolution K4 engine (already have a pretty solid start to the string/fret handling engine).

Wow sounds very promising!! The tone sounds good but some of the fast runs sound a little synthetic perhaps?

Looking forward to yet another fantastic Orange Tree Sammples library!

Yeah, the legato is still under construction. Also, bear in mind that a lot of the fast passages were played at a single dynamic. In the future, for non-breath controller users (or wind controllers), there'll be the option to have that controlled via velocity as well as the mod wheel, and automatic curves based on speed of playing, intervals, etc.
