Truepianos feels that a cloth was puted over the speakers....???

Great showcase!

And so very true about "True"pianos... Not true at all.

Both outstanding products...

...i mainly choose pianoteq for it variety of parameters an the ability in modifying a choosen physical model. rather that looking for a so to say, "pure" piano sound
However,no need for a flame war temptation, they both undoubtely deserves respect

Pianoteq is very impressive. I think that physical modelling synthesis is the future for many acoustic instruments. I have two review of pianoteq and truepianos but in italian. Here you can check the google translate version if you want:

hi everybody,
as a lot of people do, i try both, but soon, i have the chance to get Pianoteq Pro, and believe me it is "THE" perfect virtual piano  without any doubts...

just try something like this:
1)play a song on Pianoteq 3.6, then record it
2)play same song on Truepiano, then record it
3)go in a good piano shop with your mp3 in pocket, choose best piano they have,
and you will immediately understand why you'll prefer Pianoteq...
let your ears be judges...
Truepiano is really a great virtual piano...
But setting possibilities in Pianoteq Pro are infinite: you can made it sound Exactly as you needed and, after few adjustments and setting you think and feel that you play on a real piano... or maybe a better new one? :)
(of course, a good keyboard is needed for both)

Thanks for the video!
I would agree that the Pianoteq sounds the best.
Which model you used for Truepianos?

Truepianos has a also some models and with different styles and this makes a big difference. The newest from the V2 preview "Atlantis" sounds very good.

The Pianoteq demos sound 100% real to me.

I think Pianoteq has come a long, long way - and will be even more convincing in the future. Two things to consider when checking it out: be sure to use a quality keyboard with weighted keys, as any other type of keyboard will not be able to convey the subtlety of the instrument. Additionally, a good degree of realism is highly dependent on the setup: I made my own presets by "correcting" the mic positions to get a sound which I felt was more convincing.

It's also very easy to get prepared piano sounds. Plus, if you're considering playing live, there's really nothing more convenient. CPU usage is relatively small, considering the quality of the sound.

Where do you think Pianoteq could use improvement soundwise? I just can't detect it.

TruePianos sound pretty weird here. However, I don't like the attacks in Pianoteq. They sound kinda artificial to me -- a bit soft/pillowy somehow.
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

Well, using a real piano as a comparison, there's still a ways to go before it's a convincingly real emulation - if indeed that's possible at all. I'm thinking of resonance - in particular, the interplay between the hammers, strings, the wooden casing and so on. It's there, but it's far from being "real".
These are subtleties, but they're important, especially when playing solo piano. The version they have now is certainly more than good enough in a mix, and way more than enough for a gig.

I thought Pianoteq sounded the most artificial of them all. Been playing piano since the age of 5 so I've played a few in my time. :hihi:

I kind of liked the muddy sound of the truepiano but it needs some serious EQ to get it to sit within a mix.

I still think properly sampled pianos have the edge but there will definitely be a time when physical modeling takes over. No doubt about it.

Cheers!

Sorry, but this must be a joke?! If TruePianos would really sound that terribly dull when used properly, the company would've died long ago.

Hi,

If my ears don't deceive me the Diamond module was used.. It's the most all-round but also the oldest least technically advanced module we have. Also it's generally a bad idea to use some pre-recorded MIDI file played on some specific VSTi or MIDI keyboard as a demonstration source for other pianos. A lot of the advantages of TruePianos in terms of playability/nuances get lost when doing it this way.... even though with proper tweaking of the keyboard dynamics slider etc reasonable results are very much possible.

If comparing directly to other piano VST instruments then I would suggest using a newer module like Atlantis which from an acoustical point of view is much more realistic.

As far as TruePianos goes, a much better example of it's acoustical realism used in various musical styles (Atlantis module) can be found here:

... or e.g. another recent video on youtube by someone not related to us using the same module (using a bit much reverb though):

I'm a long time Truepianos fan.

Personally I love how it works in a mix and find it very "shape-able". It positively reacts to eq and reverb, plus eventual other weirdos applied.

All of the demos on this video sucked big time! I'm pretty sure that plain MIDI file didn't do justice to any of them. I have the NI piano and Truepianos and I can assure you that both of them (especially Truepianos) can sound much much better than that.
