Pianoteq or... Truepianos?

That's also true. Pianoteq indeed can sound even BETTER than what's showcased in the video (and you guys don't even know what Modartt's been up to for quite a while now
). However, it won single-handedly even when confronted with the same untweaked MIDI file that was fed to 4 different virtual pianos. That says something.

The "Atlantis" module sounds closer to the K1 from Pianoteq. But IMO Pianoteq sounds not very good in the lower range. It's more artificial, this deep subs and the release sound is completely different and IMO Truepianos sounds there more like a real piano.
But as far as I know, Truepianos is hybrid. A part of the sound is sampled from real pianos and a part physical modelling. This combination should be closer to a real piano then 100% physical modelling.
Anyway, in the Video Pianoteq sounds the best.

Hey all,
I used the Diamond Module from the truepianos Demo. Shurely not the best one. I didnt know about the existence of a new module called Atlantis from them. Now that i got it yesterday, and allready tried it i can surely tell you all, that i no longer have any doubts, Atlantis is a great evolution and puts all other modules in a box.
Atlantis module really sounds like a true piano and is in pair or better then Pianoteq. My opinion is that it is better then my GPO4 Steinway and better then Pianoteq. I cant compare with the bigger and more expensive sampled pianos, cause i dont have them, but i can compare against GPO4, Pianoteq and NI Berlin Concert Grand...
I love what works, not brands, and Atlantis Module works. Give it a try.
Can't wait for the 2.0 version.
I will soon post a video that compares this module against other pianos.
Keep playing, keep composing, life is short
Regards
Martim

Did i say it sounded terrible? I eaven said that TPianos had a touch of realism.... I said that Pianoteq was better then truepianos (Diamond Module, was the only module i had):-)dreamkeeper wrote:Sorry, but this must be a joke?! If TruePianos would really sound that terribly dull when used properly, the company would've died long ago.martimdurao wrote:Hi
I have made a youtube video comparison between GPO4 Steinway Piano vs NI New York Concert Grand vs Truepianos vs Pianoteq Play.
This should help you all decide that Pianoteq is way better then truepianos.
Truepianos feels that a cloth was puted over the speakers....???

I have been told that it was not fair doing so....
I will do a new test, and play each instrumment seperatly...

Hmmm... Atlantis module. Sounds a bit better than all other TP modules. However the sound is still too stiff and has too little movement depending on what you play. I'm not hearing a lot of harmonic interaction between the strings, no real sympathetic resonance, no pedal sounds, and also some uneven velocity response. (Judging by this video http://www.truepianos.com/videoteuscher.php)
Still no real competition to the latest Pianoteq advances.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and have the power to choose what works for them. The Atlantis module did change my previous opinion and is in my opinion a huge improvement. It works for me..EvilDragon wrote:Hmmm... Atlantis module. Sounds a bit better than all other TP modules. However the sound is still too stiff and has too little movement depending on what you play.

THAT is the only fair way - not "testing" to a pre-played performance, that just shows the tone (and that can turn out real bad in many cases), but you need to test player-instrument response as well, and MIDI files don't do that well, because naturally, you adjust your playing style to the instrument you're playing. Of course, tweaking is needed always to bring out the best from each instrument. At least, IF you want it to sound the best it can.martimdurao wrote:I have been told that it was not fair doing so....

You didn't say this, and I didn't say that you did. But it did sound terrible in this video - at least compared to what I'm used to hear while playing TruePianos.martimdurao wrote:Did i say it sounded terrible? Sure, the Diamond was the oldest of all modules, and certainly not the best one. But even this one can sound a lot better.

In my opinion Pianoteq sounds halfway bearable in the lower range and artificial in the upper octaves. But it lacks in punch in the lower range.4damind wrote:The "Atlantis" module sounds closer to the K1 from Pianoteq. But IMO Pianoteq sounds not very good in the lower range. I guess that this is like a war between Nikon and Canon DSLR, both are great! Truepianos was behind pianoteq for me, but since i tested the atlantis module, my opinion clearly shifted.EvilDragon wrote:Um... nope, nope, and nope.
What ever works for you, is absolutely fine...
I have a feeling that is i showed a piano audio from pianoteq and truepianos (atlantis module) and told that it was from a major sampled one, 99% would believe.

Only those with malfunctioning ears would believe it.martimdurao wrote:I have a feeling that is i showed a piano audio from pianoteq and truepianos (atlantis module) and told that it was from a major sampled one, 99% would believe.
And of course Nikon is better!
