I answered this in another post but I'll do so here as well.ttoz wrote:well i thought i would give the demo another run on my new macbook pro, simply because i wanted to get a 64 bit native processor that can do upwards compression.
I have spent 4 HOURS< yes hours, and with the spartan info available in manual on this, with upward compression enabled in parameters, to get it to work and i just can't. I have recorded my voice very soft and then loud to clearly be able to hear if upwards compression is working and it simply isn't. I have tweaked and tried every knob. This has happened since the first day i ever tried this compressor when it was released.
To get upward compression to work either:
a) increase "Release Type" >0%.
or
b) increase "Curve Law" >50%
You will then see the gain reduction meter registering ABOVE 0dB
Increasing "Analog Knee" reduces the effect of upward compression until a value of 1.00 above which it is disabled.

It's indeed a bit tricky... but man 4 hours???
try the following:
On the init patch, open the ratio parameters page.
Then, turn on upward compression and set expansion to 1:15 or so. (verify it stays there... this control seems buggy to me, I had to set it several times)
Set curve law to >50% and attack and release to 0.
Now when you turn down the threshold you should be able to hear anything has changed and the GR meter goes upwards instead of downwards.
Now tweak to your taste...
Sounded very shitty to me after 5 minutes of playing but well I don't really need this feature
Drumloop recommended for first testing IMHO.
Cheers,
Doc

For a while, during beta, I was worried people might complain about the lack of dinosaurs on the Compassion UI. REALLY glad I got away with that one.

Dr.Gunjah wrote:To me there's only one issue left that's quite annoying.
When I choose a mod I see the proper name in the preset field, but when I close and re-open COMPassion the field always says "None".
This happens too when you click "Save" in COMPassion or when you load a project.
I noticed it doesn't happen with presets... is this intentional?
any progress on this Dave??sunny_j wrote:also, when i load a mod, and then change the view settings of the main window, the name of the mod changes to "none"

Any compressor does upward (to varying degrees) with a fast attack and a short release, however some you'd need to just squash the back of the transient and then pull gain back up so a LONG attack and release to taste . You're trying to pull transients out so you'd just watch your regain and look/listen for the settings where the vu jumps up.ttoz wrote:well i thought i would give the demo another run on my new macbook pro, simply because i wanted to get a 64 bit native processor that can do upwards compression.

also 1.02 bugs. In audiounit logic 9.1.4 , engage transient shaper, then tweak, then disengage, tweaks remain enabled, i.e. the transient section has no way of actually bypassing it, it works even when switched off.
Also click on the settings and then the middle tab and there is total graphic corruption until gui is closed then reopened. I am talking about the plugin global settings here.
