Yep, The Electronic Garden has a new sample collection for sale. We're calling it "Joystick Journeys":

http://www.theelectronicgarden.com/vcs3.php

After countless requests (and a few overly-generous - if ultimately refused - offers to buy the real thing off of me), I've finally managed to get my VCS3 to stay in tune long enough for a complete collection of multisamples and loops. I had some help from Expert Sleepers, in the form of their awesome Silent Way MIDI to CV plug-ins, but there are quite a few that were scaled the old fashioned way: by hand and with a lot of patience.

There are basses, leads, pads and of course effects! Multis, one-shots and a 64-note percussion kit comprised of oddball effects in Kontakt and Reason ReFill formats. Plus there are 101 REX files created using the VCS3's loony Trapezoid envelope generator and third oscillator LFO. Much joystick waggling has occurred in the creation of these sounds!

There are over 850 multi-samples and one-shot samples rolled into more than 70 patches, plus another 101 loops. And it all costs a mere twenty smackers.

So what's it sound like? Check out "Sticks and Stoners" a tune I made using the Reason version of the collection:

http://www.theelectronicgarden.com/Scot ... toners.mp3

and another shorter, weirder one (this time with the Kontakt version):

http://www.theelectronicgarden.com/Scot ... rigade.mp3

All of the sounds in both demos are from Joystick Journeys.

If you don't want to splash the dough (or if you simply cannot believe that a VCS3 can be tuned) you can pop over to the Freebies page and grab the free selection, which includes four multis, a smaller set of percussion fx (with twenty hits) and five REX loops. As always, TEG freebies are license-free to use in your music even if you don't plump for the full product. If you do, you'll find that we have one of the coolest licensing policies around (we won't even complain if you want to share the collection with your bandmates).

It is hands-down the single squishiest, most piercing synth I have ever owned. The diode ladder filter is unusual and really nice. It isn't a typical filter by any means (made weirder by the bizarre envelope generator).

Yeah, XILS3 compares pretty well to the real thing, actually, and with some nice bonus stuff thrown in. You can make sounds on XILS3 that you could never make on the real thing, thanks to the inclusion of a standard ADSR envelope generator. Still the reverse is true as well - a real EMS synthi has a sound like nothing else.

I should add that if anyone has any other formats that they'd like to see, I'm open to suggestions. We made the last one available as SFZ upon request and we can certainly do that with this one, too.

(Also well done on your cool magazine articles: my knowledge of KarmaFX has come on in leaps and bounds!).

Hi, i've always been interested in your actual libraries, but couldnt understand from the website if the Kontakt patches as some sort of scripted and mapped knobs for basic tweaking like filter, adsr...

would u mind clarifying that for me?

Thanks

There's nothing too elaborate...no scripts or anything. There are filters, envelopes, etc in the Kontakt patches and things like velocity and mod wheel are linked to some parameters. Basically whatever performance stuff I thought worked with the patch. The free patches are pulled directly from the collection, so check those out to see if they'll meet your needs.

Cheers Scot - I've had great fun working through the (Kontakt) patches last night and I'm very impressed by the quality of the sound recording and the range of sounds on offer (this range of sounds actually surprised me and says a lot about your excellent sound shaping abilities).
The pads, FX and Leads are my favourite, but your bass sounds are nice and meaty, the percussion/drums are inspiring and the raw samples are very handy indeed.

To put it bluntly, it's a great personal effort by you Scot.
These samples are recorded full of life, available at an exceptionally reasonable offer and demonstrate a great vintage synth joyfulness.
