The only thing I dislike is in the band (mid) section; the top of the band selectors gives me the impression they're detached (floating in mid air). It may be because they look raised, but have no shadow. Apart from that, stellar work.
Do you mean the tan solid border around the band section?

Steven
I think the reason the bits look detached is because the plug-in doesn't have a border. That was the first thing that struck me when looking at the full screen version of the screeny in this thread.

As for the two version thing, seeing as everybody seems to be happy with MC's Large's CPU usage, a second, purely smaller GUI version, with all the feature of large, would definitely get my vote! The current GUI is MASSIVE... look at something like WaveArts Trackplug5, similar features, but a 3rd of the size, just as a point of reference.

Yes we have a particular size in mind for a second UI that would be more appropriate for laptop/general screen sizes, and we hope that the combination of the two layouts can accomodate *most* users screen/layout tastes :)

I mean the whole top half of the band sections. The bottom half (dark bit) looks concave/inset because of the shadow and light border (which is great), and the top part (light part) looks convex. The visual cue to say the top part is raised doesn't seem strong enough to me.

It's a really small nitpick, but it looks to me like they're hovering :hihi:

Yeah... now that audiosabre pointed it out, the eq "bolders" look a bit detached from the GUI.

Post

Indeed, the EQ band section is the only section that looked (and still looks) slightly out of context to me from the first time I saw the new GUI. All other sections look very nice already :D

Thank you for the clarification, we'll take a look into a possible solution for that.

Here is a new UI mockup including a number of user requests. This is a single-page layout and is the same size as the current MixControl UI. We will work to devise another UI layout that is more compatible with smaller screens sizes for users on laptops and common display sizes. Again, this is still a development model.

Very nice! Some things seem better and some less organized.. but since you said it is a mockup, it's fine, I like the idea. :)

I will probably give a detailed feedback post later @ the teamdnr forum, hope I'm not bugging you with my picky suggestions just yet!

So, in the end we will have the large, small and channel strip UI versions?

The problem with this UI is it is tall... modern computer screens are wide. I hope you have a slightly larger, but wider version available. This tall version is fairly off-putting to me. This one also seems a bit cramped imo and needs to be enlarged overall by about 25-30%. I do like the EQ part on this one better and the lack of the huge, rounded gradients at the top.

Btw I'm on a laptop right now.. it has a 17" 1600x900 resolution. My desktop has a 22" 1680x1050 (not much difference) -- that is to say the real problem isn't in screen size but in screen resolution. The taller the UI, the worse it becomes to scaling in size since we only have so much vertical space but tons horizontal.. if these taller UIs are scaled larger, we'll all end up scrolling up and down to see it all! :hihi: But as it is they are a little on the small size (knobs, labels, etc)

Even if you do keep this one, I'd hope you increase the overall UI size by at least 20%. This one seems at little small and screen resolutions are only going to increase in the future..

The initial response from the first iteration was that it was too large, so we started from the size that it currently is now. Our intention is to provide two versions - one that has all controls on one page, and another, tentatively, with a tabbed view for those who wish for a smaller version.

That being said, I'm sure we can make this current iteration a bit larger, as it will be the "large" version anyways :) We will continue to look for ways to accommodate various visual preferences for users and we hope to be able to provide something that all users can be happy with. The suggestions thus far have been great, and we very much appreciate the interest shown in our advancements of this project.

In the end, we're looking to have two separate versions that will accommodate most users display tastes. We will add more information here as we progress.

much prefer this function-over-style approach (though it's not without its style)...looks like it means business

Post

I totally support ebow and VitaminDs points:
form follows function and wider is more ergonnmic than higher.

If it sounds as good as it looks I'm looking forward to the release :) . Much better IMHO.

Post

Maybe people have a point about tall v wide plugins, but that new GUI looks a lot better than the previous iteration IMO.
