Recabinet 3 - Opinions so far?

Hello, I saw Recabinet 3 has been updated to x64. This appeals me, as I presently do not have any IR loaders working 64 bit natively - and really can't use them bridged, as Cubase' CPU usage suddenly jumps to 100% as soon as I load a 32bit amp sim. So I use x64 for mixing and x86 (or Reaper) for tracking.
Can anyone reccommend this update? I like the 100% phase coherency thing and the integrated console EQ. Also, do you know if it will ever be capable of loading Recabinet 2 IRs? What about CPU consumption?
I'm wondering if it's worth, as many amp sims I truly like are still 32bit and I'm not aware of any plans to get them updated.
Thanks in advance.

It needs panning on each channel. It's a huge omission and limits its use massively. Also, it's a closed system and I don't see it changing. I've found the dev is not receptive to ideas.
On x64, I would recommend Reverberate. It has great features/price and a couple of versions to suit needs. There's also a version for Computer Music Magazine but I don't know if it's a regular on the DVD, or x64.

I don't find not having panning on each channel a huge ommission at all, and I certainly do not find that it limits its use in any way. Certainly not in the way I work (my guitars are always recorded as double tracked mono channels, so if I want a different setup per track I just load a second instance - what I like is that I can mix two cabs per channel easily within each instance without having to worry about phase issues, if I so wish).nigel_khan wrote:It needs panning on each channel. YMMV,

Of course it depends on what you want, and how you record but for me it's restrictive.Takk wrote:I don't find not having panning on each channel a huge ommission at all, and I certainly do not find that it limits its use in any way. YMMV,
I record guitar to a dry track and a wet track, which is the preamp out and so includes effects. For each track, I prefer to have each cab in a different stereo position, I then use the EQ to balance the overlap. I can't do this with Recabinet unless I use 2 Instances, and since it is quite CPU intensive (though not excessive) this is a not only a workflow hassle, but has unneccesary overhead. With reverberate I can work how I want to and I don't have to change things because of the limitations of the software.
Another example is Kuassa Creme, for me, it's use has increased since it added the ability to pan the channels.

Thanks guys. I already have a license for Reverberate and used the LE version on x86. I've found it better than guitar specific IR loaders. To be honest I find Reverberate quite cumbersome for guitar IR (you know, the big GUI with lots of un-needed parameters (for IR loading, of course, it's a great reverb!).
I don't see panning a huge limitation as well as I also record two guitar parts each double tracked. Yet, I've found using LeCab 2 that I can spare having four additional pseudo-haas tracks (I just miss a better term right now) by just loading different impulses at lower volume.
Not sure also if I can still go full x64 for guitar, as my most used amp sims are Studio Devil and Creme, both x86 only. I also have AT and GR, but never used them on my albums.
I guess I still need to make up my mind about this... thanks again for your input.

You could try Reverberate Core. I got it to use in simpler situations and having both versions has been handy.Amon1973 wrote:Thanks guys. Yeah, I've been considering Core. That's a good solution, especially if Studio Devil goes x64. I'll download Recabinet 3 and Core demos soon and see.
What a mess with all this x86 and x64 stuff... I'd really like to strip down folders and installs.

I've held off going x64. For the stuff I do, the memory limitation isn't a problem.Amon1973 wrote:Yeah, I've been considering Core. That's a good solution, especially if Studio Devil goes x64. I'll download Recabinet 3 and Core demos soon and see.

On the other hand, I have coded 64-bit systems since 1995 so I can't really see why everything isn't there already. I used to code on a 32-bit HP(-UX) system and then port to 64-bit Digital UNIX and SunOS(openWindows). Even the legacy code was easy to do and just required MACROs to be developed. But then, windows makes everything far more diffult than it should be.
I guess we'll get there eventually. It is the future after all

If you guys are curious about our 64 bit version, and how it will perform on your system, we offer a free demo. The only restriction in the demo is periodic gaps of silence in the audio.
Thanks!

Hi Shane, I'm probably going to demo it today. Thanks.Kazrog wrote:If you guys are curious about our 64 bit version, and how it will perform on your system, we offer a free demo. The only restriction in the demo is periodic gaps of silence in the audio.

Is there any chance Recabinet 3 will be capable of loading the Rec v2.02 IRs somewhen? Sorry if this has been asked already.

There's no plans for that. Recabinet 3 contains all of the cabinets from versions 1 and 2 (and then some) recaptured and simplified to present each cabinet in terms of its strongest qualities.Amon1973 wrote:Hi Shane, I'm probably going to demo it today. I did a quick test and it sounds great. It also performs very good. A pity you can't load external IRs - this feature, along with a pan control would truly make this perfect. Nonetheless, I understand the need to keep it simple.
In any case, sound-wise it's killer.

Thanks! It's probably best to think of Recabinet 3 as 1.0 software, because it's the first version we've done that's an actual plugin (previous versions were just IR libraries.) There's definitely growing room, and we will take a more open stance with respect to feature requests over time.Amon1973 wrote:I did a quick test and it sounds great. It also performs very good. I hope our policy never came off as hostile or egotistical, we just didn't want to have our initial launch cluttered with 8 million feature requests on our forum. We've gotten a lot of feedback from our artists and beta testers, and panning and external IR support are two of the most popular requests, so we'll see what happens...

Hi
Im using the current version of Recabinet in Ableton Live8.
Im only able to hear the unaffected sound. Going through the presets makes no change to the sound. The only knobs that have any effect on the sound are the Output controls.
