Tutorial: How to use a 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator as a midi controller using RBC9's custom driver and acousmodule's 3D Midigator VST

Thanks to RBC9 and AcousModules.

I bought my SpaceNavigator for $46 online which is a small price to pay for such a well-engineered 3D controller. I've been waiting half my life for such a thing... now if only I had the $$$ to make a 3D foot controller with iCube-X parts ;)

Bump

and I put this in my KVRmarks, permanently findable by clicking on a name in a post.

A midi driver for MAC that seems to work with a lot less fuss involved!

Has anyone got this to work with pitchbend? Great, I can map all the CC's, but all I really wanted in the first place was pitchbend. Looking up "CC->pitchbend" I find that it reduces the resolution in half! Help

hello friends !

do you know if it's possible to use multiple SpaceNavigator ?
is it making some troubles with the mouse ?

thanks a lot and be inspired

this is the best solution I've found since I've last posted. First, you need drivers to have the device be recognized as a HID joystick - check the official forum for the latest beta version, or use the ones explained in the first post. Second, use this - http://www.virtuasonic.com/mijoypro.htm "Mijoy Pro 4" It supports 8 controllers.

Safe voyages on your synth space station.

Woaw thanks a lot !
so, just to be sure and because my english is so bad, you can use 8 different space navigator on the same computer with mijoypro ?
have you even use it with ableton live ?

it can be perfect !

I only have one - the developers say it can support 8 devices - I haven't tried, so let us know if it works

ok thanks !
time for brain storming, and i will tel you if its working

Looks great

but I can't find one for $46 - where did you get it?

Post

Here's what I don't get: when are developers going to realize that there are a lot of us who'd love to be able to use hardware like this right out of the box for music purposes? Sure, there are even a few guys like me who'd use it as a 3d tool as well, but why not cover both groups? If seems like a little bit o' code would make your potential widget sales almost double.

Or maybe this needs to live in the DAW like the way Live has built in functionality for a bunch of controllers. I've got a game joystick someone gave me that I'd love to use, but the hoops I have to jump though now to get it to work is too much. This seems like something that could be easily plug-and-play, or close to it.

Actually, reading the tutorial instructions, it doesn't seem like much of a big deal, though I couldn't find this $46 dollar deal either. Sounds like it could be an awesome little controller.

I've got it working (controlling KORE), but it seems very clicky compared to using my Logitech joystick or the xy pad of my Novation. Like it's trying to send a lot of garbage too fast. Could be a factor of the beta state of the driver, but I find it unusable. Also, you can't "park" it like a pedal, so it'll always just bring you back to what it considers "zero."

This may work for some people, but I think I'm going to return mine. Dud.
