A personal list of features I'd like to see in the updated instrument
-ARP 4023 2pole multimode (White Odyssey) filter emulation
-ARP 4075 4pole LPF (Axxe) emulation with the well known "12KHz bug"
Thanks for your consideration.

I have a few feature requests for TimewARP 2600 at the moment:
- step sequencer, maybe the one already implemented in KikAxxe
- A switch for first not/last not priority
- eLicenser as an option for the copy protection (like in Xils PolyKB)
- Chorus, Phaser + Delay FX or at least a Chorus
BTW i am working on a soundbank for TimewARP 2600 currently, based on my poll here at KVR: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=305177
I already got 15 patches in the last 24 hours so i hope the bank will not take very long.
I'm not sure if the bank will be 64 or 128 patches, depends on if i'm out of ideas after 64 patches or not.

Time for some gravedigging.. hello!
A multimode filter would be good, a sequencer would make it much more fun to use (a snap-to-note feature would be nice), more legible GUI would be good (whether it's vector-based resizable like Zebra's or whatever works), toggleable oscillator drift would be great (i like the temperature idea), being able to patch through to unpatchable parameters (resonance, ADSR/AR values), having an actual velocity jack instead of magic sliders, maybe ghosting the patch cables until they come into focus instead of leaving them to dangle all over the UI,
...but definitely a copy protection scheme which allows me to install, buy and register the software without requiring any manual intervention or preferably even a particular flavour of dongle. I wanted so much to give you money for your great software on a long weekend and couldn't.
(I still want to of course - it sounds great and the manual is superb.)

Besides the multimode idea, I also had the idea that the filter should be able to be patched into seperately,
so that one or two oscillators could be going through a lowpass, while the third oscillator could be going through a highpass filter.
Something similar to this, only with sliders.

So... we're coming up on this thread's first birthday.TimewARP wrote:Hi All,
I have created a new thread to discuss the features that are most desired in a version 2 of TimewARP 2600(http://www.wayoutware.com/twarp.html). It has been a while since I have dug into TimewARP 2600, and I think it has been long enough. I plan to produce an update that will enhance the product, however, I don't want to forget that at it's heart, TimewARP 2600 is an ARP 2600.
Here is the list of features proposed so far in the other thread:
1. Step Sequencer/Sequencers... (let's define this because I have had a lot of people ask for more than a just a 1601...)
2. Colored Cables with transparency, or some way to hide them to see what is behind them.
3: New effects... If it is just post effects, I would find that boring because you can just chain existing VSTs... Effects that you could patch through might be interesting though. Please propose what you think would be good. I know a lot of people have desired a Limiter, and different filter modes/types.
4. Bigger UI option for larger monitors. For the record... I hate(or should I say seriously dislike) UI's that make you scroll to get places as is found in the 2600v... I prefer tabs... The problem there is cables... What are your thought?
5. (From poona) How about adding a high quality mode where it uses higher degree of oversampling? CPU is cheap nowadays compared to when TimewARP 2600 was first released.
6. <please fill in the blank>
As I said in the other thread, a project like this will take a bit of time. I cannot say when, or if it will be available... I guess that will depend on what kind of response I see here.
This is the first time I have tried to start a thread to discuss product development on KVR, so please be kind.
Best regards,
Jim
At this point I couldn't recommend anything from wayoutware with a good conscious, and I'm sure not interested in some toys for phones. I bet you'll find that's true of most of your users at this point. I'm very disappointed.

Since I don't know anything about it I should probably shut up, but I'm feeling extraordinary generous with my wisdom today so I cannot help myself. Firstly - never ever believe a developer who promises updates. Never. Never. Never. Never. Be grateful when they come but don't expect anything. I don't know how many times I've said it (to myself repeatedly mind you) any developers word is as of little value as the pixels they are written with.zerocrossing wrote:I've actually tried to sell timewARP twice, but no one seems to want it at any price.
From my part I've been eyeing TW2600 for a long time - but have always put it in the compartment of Talented-Developer-Who-Wants-A-Lot-But-Doesn't-Do-It and therefore I don't buy it.
Same goes for my Eiosis plugins. NOBODY wants to buy them. Fabrice is always out on new adventures. But still - they are still up to the task, year after year, so I shouldn't complain.

Yes, Ilok alternative plus the 2600 sequencer.states wrote:drop the iLok please (i have no problem with any other scheme and i tend to like the eLicenser usb). add a 1601 emu (or even the exact same that you've already put on the KikAxxe emu), increase the oversampling and do something about the levels/oversrive. ... err.. if that's not too much to ask.. other than that i wouldnt want you to touch anything on your 2600. 'tis a near-perfect emu imho !

It's true. Even the canonized Urs Heckman is way more interested in developing a free Roland synth sim than fulfilling the promise he made to his Uhbik customers. My advice to others is the same as yours, but I didn't take it. I didn't even check out the demo of Uhbik. I was so impressed with every other purchase from U-he that with the description and promise of the vaporware Uhbik X, I happily entered my credit card number.DrGonzo wrote:Firstly - never ever believe a developer who promises updates. Now, don't get me wrong. There have been Uhbik updates and the plug in suite is worth, IMO, more than I paid for it, but I was really, really, really excited to have something that had the DP4-like functionality of the Uhbik X.
My lament to developers is to please not promise or even allude to new features in your software before they're pretty deep in beta testing and almost ready for a release candidate. It just frustrates your users.
Here's the deal. timewARP 2600 is a really good sounding plug in. I did demo it before I bought it and as far as I can tell, it's stable and really doesn't need anything else. My complaint is that I'm just not using it much and I'd like to sell my license but between the lack of help/confusing emails from the developer, iLok protection (which I think is a plus, especially with small devs) and dead development cycle makes the plug in less than desirable to people like you, who'd normally be interested in it and probably even have it by now... paying the dev full price even.DrGonzo wrote:From my part I've been eyeing TW2600 for a long time - but have always put it in the compartment of Talented-Developer-Who-Wants-A-Lot-But-Doesn't-Do-It and therefore I don't buy it.
I just don't understand the "Hey guys, what do you want to see in the next version!?" Thread followed by the "just kidding, I'm never working on this plug in again" response. Just say, "The plug is is as is, buy it with that in mind because I'm never updating it again" and have that be that.
Agreed. I have the Eiosis Vocoder and I'm still adament about it being the best sounding emulation of an analog vocoder available, and trust me, I have a bunch of them. I've never even thought about an update to it, but it probably could use a once-over at this point. Have you ever tried using it just as a mono-synth? It's quite good, especially for bass.DrGonzo wrote:Same goes for my Eiosis plugins. NOBODY wants to buy them. Fabrice is always out on new adventures. So I'll stop my complaining as well. timewARP is good and I'm keeping it. I'll use it, or not, until it no longer operates on my system. It could be worse. Devs like Native Instruments seem to be releasing new versions of their instruments constantly and I feel like I'm paying rent on them at this point.

No reason to sell a perfectly great plugin that sounds absolutely wonderful. Right now think of it like Surge. It's complete and usable for as long as technology and other software (os, daw) will allow.zerocrossing wrote: timewARP is good and I'm keeping it. It's one of my workhorse synths and it's staying that way.
No need to get stuck in the mindset of 'if this isn't updated every other month it must be a piece of crap'.
It's a piece of art, waiting to happen, with the musician's steady hand.
Exactly, software takes consumerism to another level.Devs like Native Instruments seem to be releasing new versions of their instruments constantly and I feel like I'm paying rent on them at this point.

I was interested in buying from Zero, but was put off for the said reasons. I'd have no problem paying full price if they fixed the bugs and dropped iLok and I'd bet there are others who feel the same.
Seems like lost business to me, but there you go.

I have absolutely no problem with the iLok 2. Maybe the blue light which I like so I won't forget it's there and hit it.But sometimes it hurts my eyes a bit. And I wish it would pulsate in sync with the drums...
Other than that no problem.
Back on the subject I would like to see this come to fruition as it sounds pretty nice from what I've tested!

You're correct about the sine being a filtered triangle. Here's a link to a service manual.
http://synthdiy.com/files/2007/Arp2600- ... Manual.pdf
I can't copy & paste but the text read:
Sine wave converter: The triangle wave at the output of A16 is appled to the sine wave converters Q3 and A17 through attenuator R121 (purity trimmer)
Q3's nonlinearity rounds the peaks of the triangle to an approximate of a sine wave A17 amplifies the signal from Q3 to 10 volts peak to peak.
I love that. A purity trimmer...
Good luck with this.
