Sorry to contradict you, but afaik rosewood only appears in the laminated neck stripes with the dark coloured models, the body wings are maple and ash laminates.Hink wrote:broken record time: Another unique fact about the Daion, it's made up of many pieces of maple and rosewood which are pretty contrasting in tone.

At least that's what the catalog says, and it makes more sense tonally.
The natural models actually used rosewood and ash.

huh? During the days I was researching I found several sites tht said 14 pieces of rosewood and maple (the catalog says the neck is 9 piece construction on maple and rosewood), I was unaware the fretboard is ebony so see what I know?
I always thought the core was just maple too but looking at it now the grain is different...like ash...which imo just adds more example of the thought and craftsmanship put into these guitars

I guess wood does really matter in this case

I am not so sure that I plan to buy any more guitars. This last Ibanez RG I gutted and tricked out was a great success, and is the guitar of my dreams. I would play it over any guitar on the planet. I wouldn't mind having one of the blue floral JEMs for a collectors piece, but as far as to play I would rather build my own. My next one I want to build from scratch and model it after a JEM. I been reading for years on it, and I think I am ready to step out of my comfort zone and just start from the beginning with the next one. Besides, I'll have my "precious" to play around on while the project is underway. I only have like 1 picture of mine but I'll post it, just as soon as I figure out how lol. Like I wrote before, wood combination is a science ...
I only looked it up as I was suspicious of using large amounts of rosewood for the body, rosewood is expensive, heavy and not really a great tonewood for solidbodies (best known example being Harrison's Tele, well, let's say it's unique sounding
Rosewood is ideal for fretboards and stabilization laminates though and makes wonderful backs and sides for acoustics.

Since a Les Paul is way more than $1, I dare to ask how many deals does he need...robojam wrote:and how well it fingers...Hink wrote:hibidy wrote:Ok, that is just wrong!Ian B wrote:This is a new way of *paying* for a guitar![]()

I don't really have a problem with basswood soundwise, I just think it's useless for funny shapes like those Vox copies because it is too light, plus it is way too fragile and the screw holes will strip.

I like light and there are simple solutions for screw holes that strip (it's not really just softer woods with this issue), I suspect that we have a different view on what 'useless' means
