Alesis iO Dock... 1/4" Balanced Outputs?

I can't find the answer to this anywhere online.
My question is, Are the 1/4" outputs on the iO Dock balanced outputs?
All I can find online is saying that they are stereo outputs... That doesn't answer my question, I think.
Any answers would be appreciated.
Here is the iO dock website for reference http://www.alesis.com/iodock

Alesis contacted me via twitter and said they are actually balanced trs outputs... Hmmm don't know who to believe here because one of their reps on the phone last week said they were unbalanced too...des wrote:My Alesis rep. says that they are unbalanced.

Ok - after reading what you said I went back to our rep and asked him to verify what they were... He contacted Alesis and they are BALANCED!
Makes sense since they are trying to interface the iPad to to pro audio gear.
He also said that the current batches of IO Docks do not have the iPad 2 adapter/whatever-its-called to make it fit properly. Supposedly it still works - just a loose fit. These should be available in about 4 weeks and should also be shipping with the batches around the first of the month. I guess you get a voucher for the adapter with Docks you get now.
I've got one on order - just waiting for it to show.

I agree, Alesis is advertising the iO Dock as a progear interface. I was a bit confused at first on them putting unbalanced outputs on a progear device, now that it is confirmed to being BALANCED I am very happy.
I actually received my iO Dock last friday and I used it for 6 hours spinning beats at a house party!!! Now I gotta go back to guitar center and exchange my cables again, I originally bought balanced cables, returned them for unbalanced, now going back to get balanced ones again lol
I've been covering the release of the iO dock on my blog at www.olsmall.blogspot.com The twiiter response, and both comments on my blog posts were from Dan Radin of Alesis. Pretty neat.

I would like to read that. I'm anxious to know how well this thing performs because it looks so good it's almost to good to be true! I'm hoping I can use the MIDI-output to patch straight into my MIDI synths & then use some of those cool ipad MIDI tools to trigger them. That would be awesomevixalot wrote:Thanks for peeping my blog, I may post a full review on the iO Dock later tonight.Dogboy73 wrote:Good stuff. Nice to hear from the guy at Alesis. I can confirm that this works great with the iODock! Snagged the Yamaha Drum Pad and Arp app as a MID control device and can use that to demo and trigger sounds from all my other external and softsynths. (Also built a couple of neat custom controllers with TouchOSC!) I'm using the USB MIDI in and out only at the moment, but it's nice that it works as a standard 1x1 MIDI device, so I have an extra port if I want to reconnect a drum machine or some other hardware device on my desktop.Dogboy73 wrote: I would like to read that. As far as I'm concerned, the iODock is a "must-buy" for anyone trying to do any kind of music stuff with the iPad. Granted, I'm still waiting for my iPad 2 adapter, but the dock makes the iPad completely integrate-able (is that a word?) with the rest of my studio setup.

You should read this blog by Chris Randall (of Audiodamage fame, VST heads):
http://www.analogindustries.com/blog/en ... 9358072112
As Chris is making hardware as well as software (including iOS apps), I wonder if he is suggesting that he himself has something in the pipeline... Or maybe he is hinting that Alesis will have a more fully-specced product coming out later in the year?
Multiple IO sources with MIDI is what I'm hoping for, which would make the iOS platform a true DAW alternative.

What's the big deal about balanced vs. unbalanced outputs though? Please, name me some instruments that have balanced outputs?
