Hink wrote:susi, we had a USA map Gibson on the wall of one of the stores I worked at but the body was wood, I remember there being something about the marauder I liked as well back in the day...maple neck maybe? (dont feel like googling right now)

But I still think Daion sold off stock with the necks chopped off, if you look close enough you can see it was actually an angled slice. Also the fact that the contour and the jack are both close but loks like 'oops' really makes me believe seconds.

OT for a second, I was just checking the jet city site hoping for word on the iso cab due out feb, march, april, may, june and now retailers here say july 7th. (I also would like to see noise reduction stats) and I saw they had the 20 watt heads with several mods

http://www.jetcityamplification.com/store/jetpacks/

that BEM mod looks very interesting.

meanwhile I'm considering the 1/2 power kit mod from weber for the egnater if it will work with two tubes insted of four. You might to scroll down, but it's only 15usd and easy to do

http://taweber.powweb.com/store/modkits.htm#hilo_pwr

and of course really right after I decide on the iso cab or not comes the strat body from Warmoth...barring unseen heavy expenses of course. :tu:
True, there were wooden versions, rebel flag versions too, the one we had was plain ivory white, bolt-on and had an extremely light body, I still believe it grew on that unholy resonwood tree. :P
The Jet City stuff @ US prices is hard to resist, over here they lose against the s/h market. A friend just scored a bedroom sleeper 100W Marshall head for €400, ok, it's a 900, but the better version with EL34s and single channel/dual masters.
The preamp will be converted to something more vintage anyway, maybe the rest too, he knows what he's doing. 8)
Btw, a nice parcel with loads of different tubes arrived today, spent all afternoon trying out various combinations with my JMP, incredible how much you can fine tune an amp that way.
Tomorrow it will be the 6100 and so on ...
Highly recommended, it's fun and really makes a difference.
And as long as you don't have an unusually hot biased amp it won't hurt swapping power tubes on the fly without biasing, just make sure you bias the keepers after a few hours of playing them in.

NEKRO.MACHINE wrote:Totally agree on less gain actually being heavier in sound alot of the time. Still won't stop Boss selling them horrific sounding MetalZone and MetalCore junk boxes to bedroom wielding practice 15 watt 1x8 solid state combo amp types that usually can be found wielding a half-decent but my, my fugly looking guitar. A bit like this:

You know susi those ancient egyptian brain extracting devices we both love so much? ;)

Total Brutal sounds in those two videos

Seriously do not understand why anyone would invest in a decent enough guitar or in many of cases guitars but then stick with the garbage that whatever shop 'advised' them to start out with kind of deal. A 15 watt solid-state 1x8 with DSP effects combo and heaviest pedal name that will make you instantly sound like >insert persons fave bands here< Maybe that whole logic is summed up rather well by this track:

Taken from the 2005 Album 'Terror for Sale' released on Scarlet Records. Incase they are not very easy to make out the lyrics are:

Not that i think at all in any way whatsoever i am some kind of authority on metal or a guru off heavy, modern high-gain sounds. Just my humble honest opinion with stuff i hope backs it up FWIW :)

ancient egyptian brain extracting devices = BC Rich guitars with the 'Widow' headstock and similar erm 'eye candy' that can sound and play very decent and indeed are used/endorsed by big name players (well they tend to have custom shop built versions that are either not available to buy or many times 10 times more pricey than the consumer models of course), But only as decent as whatever the weakest link in the chain/rig is. Leaves me puzzled and head scratchingly :?
Correct, the lyrics were easier to understand in the ABBA version. :hihi:

The difference between various BC Rich lines is indeed stunning  , vintage or CS ones can be fantastic guitars, wouldn't turn down an original Mockingbird or Eagle.

The twins got a workout today. Polished the frets, super clean, a little slight twist clockwise....just to straighten out a little bit more.

tedious work, but there is always a reward

Is there any pages online about the different B.C. Rich Beast models? I am interested in the full-sized ones, not the Sons of Beast.

I played one in a store, full-sized, really nice neck, but I kind of disliked the finish, it was a see-through black (I don't care to look at the grain on a black guitar), with the neck finished in black and floyd rose. I'm not even sure what model it was, but it was a mid-range model (400 Euros or so).

I do know about the Platinum (natural maple bolt-on, fixed bridge) and the IT (bound body, sort of grayish finish), but there are a couple others.

Better Example Edit:

Best JMP-like sound in a box i have heard yet...Pretty nice

Post

You're right, the best Marshall style OD yet ...
It doesn't quite match the rawness and aggression of a good JMP though, but then, nothing else does.
The tone, and the reaction to pots are spot on afaics. :tu:
Can't help but notice though it prefers a british style amp, my Marshall Drivemaster (a Guv'nor I without FX loop) does a much better job at subtracting 7ender character, but doesn't sound as authentic on the other hand.
Love the clip with the Hiwatt !
If I were in the US I'd already ordered one. 8)
Great find, thanks for sharing !

My pleasure as always, I know its 'next guitar' but still pedal/amp/pre-amp - All similar in importance. I pretty much agree that the hiwatt does it more justice from the two videos and yep the exact reason i posted it was because no other pedal i have heard or tried can do a good enough marshall impression yet incase anybody is searching :)

When my Forest Green Comp arrives (ETA end of month) I'll also have a chance of checking out the Box Of Rocks and the Plimsoul, the PS might be interesting due to its innovative dual stage design, just like this Penfar.
Overall it seems to be more of a traditional, very dynamic OD instead of an add-on channel, we'll see. 8)
Anyway, don't put me in the same room with an Aces High, I have deep pockets. :P

I can not being realistic do that but you never know ;)
Looking forward to hearing how the forest green comp works out (paultry abuse box or less intrusive?) plus the Plimsoul sounds intresting :help: My pockets are deep but very empty/void of cash. Have got the EMG707 to put in the 7-string baritone though (at last) and thats me done for a good while

Not 8) but i will live

Mine are exactly the same ...
Which leaves room for a stomp or two. :hihi:

I know the FGC inside out (it'll be a clone in my case), and it's about the exact opposite of your Rothwell (which is the most transparent comp I've ever heard, going by the clips  ).
The FGC is the king of smoothing out a Tele's excessive attack, and with a flick of the mode switch it does the exact opposite, add attack so fat it shouldn't be wasted on chicken.
Dirty deeds, done with sheep ! :hyper:
A country player's dream machine  , made to be heard clearly.

Looking forward to testing the Plimsoul myself, my buddy's full of praise.

I am not sure if there is any BC Rich history/information site but i would think via google something should come up. Was it a model from the 'NJ series'? That series is the only one that springs to mind but i am not that well up on BC Rich honestly lynxx

NJ series ?
Pure horror ! :-o  :-o
Neck joint as wide and swampy as the Mississippi delta, soft metal licensed FR crap, hideous fretwork - about the worst guitars I've ever seen. :x
Just when I had successfully forgotten about them ...

NJ==New Japan
That was when the name was sold to japanese investors who cared more about having the nameplate then producing the instrument.

Though I've got to say the USA made (not to be confused with BC Rich USA) were great playing instruments.
