I have a need for some tiny, delicate sounds. I am not much of a programmer and was hoping someone would made a bank dedicated to this.
Oops, I forgot to say I wanted the sounds for Rhino

No I don't, but sounds that don't take up much space. Not much low end and that take up litte space in a mix...
I'll think about it some more
thanks

do you mean like chromatic percussionesque sounds? short sounds?bandlimited pads? Tiny is very subjective.
I would suggest that if you want tiny, you should use sine waves triangle or other waves that do not contain large amounts of harmonics. Further use bandpass or steep lowpass filters to limit the frequency spectrum. Finally, use the preset percussion envelopes packed with rhino.

they might work well together...
I mean tiny as in bandlimited and also others which are short in duration.
It seems most of the VSTs, in not all, I have attempt to be HUGE. Looking for less is less type sounds

Have you tried pummel's "minimalist" bank yet ? It may well be what you're looking for...

Funny you mentioned that. I just remember there was something like that. I will try it out soon.Big Tick wrote:Have you tried pummel's "minimalist" bank yet ? It may well be what you're looking for...

Hmmm...
Sounds to me like you mean presets that take up less sonic space...
But then, what do I know...

David, I'm glad you asked, because while trying to compose a helpful answer, I finally sat for a while experimenting with Rhino, which had been one of my intended projects for the past few weekends.
One ready-made preset that comes to mind for "tiny sounds" is Tim Conrardy's "Swirling Galaxies" in TC Bank 2 (especially if played on high notes).
As people said, filtering the frequency spectrum (e.g. high-pass or band-pass with a high cutoff frequency) might be part of it (Flt1 and Flt2 panels).
Maybe only have one or two oscillators active (i.e., deactivate Osc3 through Osc6 by either selecting "none" as the waveform or clicking on the picture of the wave so it becomes grayed out).
On the remaining Oscillators, mix and match the available waveforms to taste.
In the Osc Level envelope windows, maybe load the piano.env or percussive.env for shorter note durations (right-click in the envelope window for the menu) -- or add a bunch of points and make tall thin spikes -- or just do a few and have that section loop.
[Interface sidenote: I keep my monitor a little dark, so the loop-section highlighter was hard to see -- so I edited the colors.txt config file to make the loop section brighter -- Also, when moving the loop start or end point, you have to drag the mouse from the loop marker to a position under the next breakpoint in the envelope before the highlighted loop section will change.]
On the effects panel, either turn them both off or adjust their sliders to make them less pronounced. The Crazy Comb effect can help to attenuate the sound, though.
Obviously there are a lot of other parameters and modulation possibilities, but the things mentioned above are some of the essentials.
Hope this helps -- I'm not much of a programmer either, but I feel like I comprehend Rhino a lot better after an hour of just playing around and trying things out.

Nice expample...
I've been playing around with the the high pass filter in other VST, but now I need to give it a go in Rhino..
thanks
