The choice between equally fine candidates might just as well be influenced by subjective criteria like looks, coolness or childhood memories.

We can custom order Dimarzio's. I'm eventually going to get a custom set of zebras with gold poles.hibidy wrote:I guess I could custom order it.........

How long does that take sir? And do you have an idea/range price wise? I don't need to be in a hurry, but I wouldn't want to wait months and months. PM if you feel this is too "OT" (though I don't think the peeps here would snob about it)Uncle E wrote:We can custom order Dimarzio's. BTW, how easy is it for you to get (or do you have) black tone-zones/f spaced bridge wise?

Getting anything from Dimarzio takes a while, especially custom orders. We're probably talking months and months. :-/hibidy wrote:How long does that take sir? And do you have an idea/range price wise? I don't need to be in a hurry, but I wouldn't want to wait months and months.

Just found my next guitar quite unexpectadly (wasn't looking)
a taylor'baby' model travel size guitar. 2nd hand and about $150 w/case.
A lovely full tone for a 3/4 size instrument.. Just needs a bit of a setup- strings a bit high
and tends to play a bit out of tune up the neck..

Yeah, acoustics usually require a bit of serious TLC to get them "sweet"

That's a great guitar, especially for $150! A lot of people swear by it for recording, simply because it has a tighter, brighter sound that can work where a full sized acoustic might not.shanecgriffo wrote:Just found my next guitar quite unexpectadly (wasn't looking) a taylor'baby' model travel size guitar. 2nd hand and about $150 w/case.

Haven't had the chance to record it yet but it certainly has that lovely focused tight tone compared to my ibanez artwood dreadnought which certainly needs some serious eq work when recording it.
Even with the action a bit too high i've been capo'ing up the neck and it just sounds so nice, it has a nice tight feel for fingerpicking and crisp yet full notes.. It really has the "expensive" guitar sound ..

*Cannot play this guitar* which kinda takes the edge off this CNC vid, but it's a fascinating watch all the same

oh how I wish I had a machine shop...though cnc has grown just a little since I was in school. But then again for single run things I wouldn't use cnc anyhow, but I would love to have a Bridgeport milling machine, a decent lathe, a surface grinder and a few odds and ends (bandsaw, grinding wheel, drillpress etc)

Nice dimitar, I missed that one! Only issue i would have is that damned HSH config, The 'S'would just have to go but apart from that which is personal preference. Have you had chance to try the Mick Thompson MTM1 or MTM2 models yet? One of the best necks i have had the pleasure of...I normally avoid signature stuff but in this case i have said before and still am going to get one eventually. Its got the EdgeFX bridge (straight bolt through it so that it does not float or even have an arm but that takes away nothing from it for me personally). hibby regarding small hands with a big old neck, Try one if you get the chance. The old neck i can compare it with are my beloved old pre-FMIC jackson/Charvel necks which are as good as it gets *for me*dimitar wrote:

Back to Dean for a proper reply, The most impressive one i have played is this one: http://www.deanguitars.com/dean_winter_ ... leysig.htmHink wrote:oh how I wish I had a machine shop...though cnc has grown just a little since I was in school. However the finish is fugly and don't like the head stock but bloody hell it plays so well, Pinches for fun everywhere. Again another signature thing that i actually like but am put off by the headstock as the shit finish could be removed or ordered in a solid colour. There is a 6-string one also J man. I am not a big fan of Dean or the newer DBZ that Dean.Z has done, All those Dimebag 'sig' models he never even played have been milked and unless its at the best part of £1000 then i have found them to be lacking...Whereas with both Schecter and ESP LTD range stuff they deliver for half the price kill the mid to high priced Deans for me at least. First bass guitar i got was from my mother, I was 11 or 12 and it was a Dean active job, I liked that one alot...Someone stole it
I'd take a four string of this model though if it plays nice, A 'tasteful' shape and not silly headstock: http://www.deanguitars.com/edge8_basses.php Still it ain't the old one :/

Dean about Deans
late 90s deans were what we sold and I got to play them all (I had to set them up too), the acoustic was nice until one day I found the back had separated from the sides in one corner. It wasn't a solid top but it played nice and sounded pretty good and of course the electronics was a nice extra...for me I got it cheap. We couldn't buy used gear, the boss would only allow us to buy things used that didn't sell (he was the worst boss I ever had, he had a terrible temper and treated everyone like crap...thankfully only about once a month would he be in our store) but with my discount I got a good deal.
Turning it into a guitar for slide though was making the best of a bad situation...btw on my page the song Plight of a Dreamer was recorded with that guitar (before I turned it into a slide guitar). I'm not sure I would buy a Dean now, but once again I have to say that ESP/LTD (MH-350FR) I bought last winter is fantastic for the money. It's 50 dollars more now than I payed for it but I would buy it again even at that price. I love the neckthru, and it's not like some other ESPs that are set-thru...it's a true neckthru.
