I'm looking for a VST groovebox that can load loops and then display the chopped up loop so that I can assign pieces of the loop to pads. That way I can build up banks of different combinations of loops from the original loop. It should have a visual display of the chopped loop and it should be possible to drag and drop the loop pieces onto the pads. A bit like ACID's chopper maybe?

If this thing can do that then I'll buy it.

You could always do something functional in TouchOSC though.
...but it would be killer on my win7 tablet; 1.6 ghz, 2 gig of RAM. Lots of these non-iStuff devices around. :D
PLZ, imageline, make a version with extra fat gui widgets for 11x7 touchscreens!!! :D pretty please?
resistors are futile you will be simulated

FXpansion Geist can do this sort of thing, slice up loops, drop bits onto pads and sequence the bits. I would have thought there would be various samplers with this sort of capability too.

Thanks I'll check it out. I've been using Live Slice and LiveDrive for rearranging loops but Geist might be more versatile.

You can do that in Groove Agent One in Cubase.

Slice up the loop, drop it onto the pads and have each pad as an output.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

I checked out Geist but it's much more than I need and at £160 not an impulse buy. I want something that's no more than $100, does loop slicing and rearranging well and is pretty simple to use because I can do everything else in Reaper

This does seem to do the job but I use Reaper.

SliceX maybe.

Post

I just tried SliceX but it doesn't have a pattern maker. I'd like a combination of loop slicer and loop pattern maker. It's a real PITA editing midi drum tracks in Reaper so I'm hoping to find a VSTi that can slice and dice within a few clicks. Maybe a plugin that has a browser with different midi loops that can be tried out with a sliced audio loop to create different combinations for example to add a swing effect if needed. LiveSlice does this but it's also not very intuitive and I find it awkward to use. Maybe I'm expecting too much but if you don't ask you never find out.

Post

Well yeah, you exactly describe Geist: browsing, slicing, sequencing and lots of great content. It's all in it. I bought it recently and it's lots of creative fun. Check out the demo.

If you decide to get it, make sure you get and register it til the end of the month, you'll get an additional 3 GB of Guru content for free from the FXpansion site (and consider getting the boxed version to get the free BFD remix expansion. It doesn't have much content, but otoh if you can get it for free - why not.).
