My laptop is dual purpose. It is my main on-the-go device, and as such, it uses the internet, has an antivirus program, etc.
In my current setup, I have a parallel installation of two Win XP OSes (One for my regular use, and one for my audio use). The one for my audio use has all internet stuff disabled/turned off, and has no antivirus program installed. The one for regular use has all of these things on and running.
According to my research, some antivirus programs that use low level drivers are not able to be disabled by GamePreLauncher, and can only be disabled if the antivirus software itself has a a way to turn itself off temporarily (ie turning off the Self Defense mode). See copy of note below:
"This is normal situation if any antivirus installed.
Some antivirus services or firewalls can not be disabled by conventional methods, even manually, since their services are controlled by low-level drivers from the antivirus developers. So antivirus works in a game mode.
If you want to disable it (in a game mode only) , you can try to turn off self-defense function (but not all antivirus programs have this feature - some of them you could not stop until uninstall), and then GP can turn off antivirus service in the game mode and restore it back in user mode.
* If you turn off your antivirus program and network is enabled in GP - do not open internet browser (or use only trusted sites) and do not use somebody else's flash sticks in game mode."
In my case, I think I would benefit the most from having one of my installations not have any antivirus software installed (my audio OS). Then, using GamePreLauncher, I could get the maximum benefit.
In this way, I have a full-use regular OS, and a hyper-tuned audio OS, all on the same computer.
I'm going to have to download this program and check it out. My computer is old and I don't have money to buy a new one, so I'll need to squeeze every last drop of RAM and CPU out of my system for audio use.
