Hello

I bought Zebra a couple of weeks ago and am liking it a lot.

I do have a rather annoying problem though which happens quite a lot.

When I am playing I often end up with a note that won't turn itself off when the keys been released. It just behaves as though my finger is still pressing the key.

The only way I can rectify it is if I close down Zebra in my host (Reaper 4 Beta) and open up a fresh instance.

I'm using version 2.5.1 of Zebra, it's a 100% legit and registered to me so it can't be some built in protection.

Is this a known issue? Any fixes other than the one described above?

I had that problem before.
It was due to my midi controller though.
Sure it doesn't happen with other synths?
It might also be the DAW's settings.
Try it out in a different daw/host.

I ended up buying a new controller and the note sticking stopped.
EDIT:

Only some hours after responding to this post.
Zebra 2.5.1 had a note stuck, but unlike normal midi controller type sticking, where it will just stick notes of whatever is played.
This stuck note, would not respond to pressing other notes.
I had to close the project to stop it, and when I reloaded it again, I got no audio at all.
Possible bug.

Is a known issue:

Only happens when playing notes while flipping through presets, if a note off coincides with the preset change.

Can be fixed by changing number of voices from few to many or vice versa.

If that's not the problem, then it could as well be a faulty MIDI controller. Some M-Audio ones were prone to not send note offs in certain moments, and the fix is the same.

Thanks for the replies. It is not happening with any other synth I use regularly so I think I can rule out it being the MIDI controller.

With regard to the response by Urs, when the notes stick, it is not coinciding directly with me changing presets although I do audition different ones regularly. I'll often by playing on the same preset for several minutes and then the note sticking happens.

I'll bear the suggested fix in mind and try it the next time it occurs.

Hmmm... let me know what exactly you did when it happened, e.g. which host and buffersize, and if you had host playback with live play...

We have planned to rewrite the note scheduling to improve on things, but that will take till October or so. (we need to harmonise some code across ACE, Zebra, FilterscapeVA, Diva and Berlin Modular, in order to make the feature set more consistent)

Hi Urs

The host is Reaper 4 (Beta). I don't know about the buffer size - will check when I get home tonight.

Usually when it happens I will have one track running in the host with a drum loop playing and Zebra open on another track. I'll have to try to see if it happens if I dont run the loop.

I have not recorded anything using Zebra yet, just experimenting and checking out some of the sounds available for it so it's not a case of me having accidentally recorded a note and that note playing back through the host when the track loops back to the beginning.

... or press F3 in REAPER to shut hanging notes (I think this is a new REAPER 4 "feature").

My midi controller also sends all notes off (CC 123) and that seems to fix the problem too.

I'm also having this issue. When I'm just playing notes on my MIDI controller, everything works fine. When I actually play a section of MIDI in my arrangement, any time I stop playback the notes hang until I press keys on the MIDI controller to reset them. It's worth mentioning that I tried this in REAPER 3.77 and had the same issue, so it's not a new issue for REAPER 4. Like others here, I haven't been experiencing this issue with other synths, but I always experience it with Zebra 2. Also worth mentioning that I don't have this problem at all in Logic Pro, so it's definitely related to how REAPER sends MIDI note endings.

Wow, strange. I was using the AUi version before, but I just tried using the VSTi instead and it doesn't seem to have this issue. I guess it might have something to do with protocol differences between VST and AU? Either way, that resolves the issue for me.

By the way, thanks for all your hard work on Zebra 2 and Uhbik! I've been using them on a new track for the last few days and I'm getting some amazing sounds. Honestly, owning Zebra makes me feel bad that I bought Komplete 7 last year...

That's interesting, because I just fixed a problem where AllNotesOff wasn't recognised anymore (Apple changed AU base classes... the old game, they're still doing it), but uhm, now it is. Just checked, yep, AllNotesOff gets handled.

Does it happen in any special modes (poly, legato, arp, duo)? - Or is it independent of these?
