Another "Which DAW do you use?" thread which will turn into a "Your DAW sucks and my DAW is the best evaaaaahhhhh" thread within a few pages :wheee:

I'm sure I'll love it to! :tu:

Cubase 6 all the way for me :)
I tried them all but Cubase just works for me. It has it's problems (the media browser, no fxp/fxb support, no VST 2.4 sidechain without workarounds...) but I love it nontheless.

Cheers

Hah, yeah, I tried to choose my words carefully with the original post to avoid such an arguement. I think the most important thing about a DAW is workflow, and that's something that's simply a preference, and not a static opinion.

I've run Cubase since SX2. I've had FLS since then too, but could never figure out how to use it effectively. Besides, Cubase covers all the basses and then some.

I can't switch now mainly because I'm too old and would rather be making music than trying to learn a whole new recording language. As it is, there's a whole learning curve every time I upgrade to the latest version.

As an aside, I'll be making the move to a WIN7 setup later this summer, and I'm dreading it. But I know I've got to get there sooner rather than later.

For me ableton Live all the way, as it is now v8 it's perfect for me, with Max4Live as add on It's brilliant way of further modulating and routing Live to the way you work, you really can't disagree. (Ha! Yeah I know) I tried other's quite a bit when I started out a few years ago, but none had the appeal of Live, simple interface with features that beg you to experiment/record and perform.

But I totaly agree with the notion that this is because I want to make music now, start and finish projects and then move on to new themes rather than learn a new DAW, especially with Live and It's add on Max which makes the head scratching and 'what if I' moments even worse. However.. :P

It would take an army to make me move on from Live now, it's simply not practicle.

Reason only for a long time (2001 - 2009). Got into plug-ins and Cubase, on to using REAPER. Back on Reason since a month and purchased Record for Reason Owners to get a free upgrade to Reason 6 when it comes out.

On some point I felt I really *need* to get away from Reason. Now back, 2 years away from it I appreciate it even more. Not being without wishes I wouldn't mind direct mp3 export and Recycle integration, but for the most part I'm happy.

Reaper (3.76 on Win XP) exclusively at home, everything from sequencing to recording to mixing live stuff transferred from my old Roland VS2480. At the studio I'm forced to use ProTools (8) against my will, but at my church I have been using Reaper on our Macs, switching over from Logic Express (8). Reaper's templates have been a lifesaver on hectic Sunday mornings, the tracks come up armed and ready to go!

Favorite things about Reaper?
Low cost.
Fastest Boot-Time Ever.
Full functioning demo, can load it onto any rig quick if I have to.

REAPER, hidden Gem, shhhhh

Energy-xt 2.5 for scratchpad, song ideas, vst testing and Studio One Pro for trying to make those ideas into something :)

Propellerhead Reason+Record all the way here. I'm a huge Propellerjunkie and has been for 5.5+ years. So much I work there now actually. ;)

Got licenses for Live, Logic and (a pretty old) ProTools LE but they never quite stuck with me. Still ReWire in to Live 7 at times though for extra happy fun times.

So I finally decided to give Reaper a proper try last night. I've run it before but all the keyboard shortcuts and mouse modifiers were completely opposite of what I wanted, and I had gotten a headache trying to figure out how to change what I wanted, and if what I wanted to do was even possible.

Fast forward 4 hours later and I had installed SWS, some better menus, and figured out where and how to change every intricate thing that I wanted to change (Also a bombing skin!). I think I'm slowly seeing why this DAW has been so highly regarded on forums, it's pretty amazing the customization.

Today I'm going to try out all the Rea-plugins to see how my workflow is using them to create a basic tune. I'm use to using Ableton's sampler to make the drum hits that I wanted, but a simple look at the one in Reaper and it seems I dont have much to worry about.

Orion is ruling for pattern based.
Acid for tracking out and sequencing loops.
These 2 have me sorted.
Reaper's name is too sucky hehe
