If you decide to get it, make sure you get and register it til the end of the month, you'll get an additional 3 GB of Guru content for free from the FXpansion site (and consider getting the boxed version to get the free BFD remix expansion. It doesn't have much content, but otoh if you can get it for free - why not.).
I'm seriously considering it but the price is a bit steep for me. My biggest problem with many of these splicers and loopers is that it takes much longer to get something decent out of them than if I chopped up the loop myself and rearranged it. I'll demo Geist and see if it's quicker and more intuitive than the others I've tried.

As for Groove Machine, I'm still none the wiser what it does and posting more videos does nothing to clarify that. How about some tech specs?

Holy Mother of God! Nearly £200 (incl. VAT) for Geist. For that money it should be able to make the tea as well. The 2GB library isn't very generous either. I tried the demo and got it to work but on more complicated loops it struggled to translate the loop to midi data. It didn't sync the loop accurately to the project tempo for some reason so I had to faff about changing the tempo of the loop in Geist to the project tempo - couldn't find the "lock loop to project tempo" button. I'm sure if I spent days reading the manual I'd get to grips with it but what a kerfuffle! I could have made dozens of tracks of sliced loops in that time.

What I need is a plugin I can drag and drop a loop into, get it to automatically sync to the project tempo, accurately auto-detect and slice up the loop and create a midi pattern of the sliced audio. Then let me allocate each slice to a specific output and allow me to whip the slices around to create different versions of the loop and allocate them each to a midi note. Whiz, bang, wallop job done in five minutes. All the other kermuggins should be hidden behind a simple interface so that if I want more complexity it's there but doesn't get in the way of the main job i.e. slicing up loops and remixing them.

Elton John has said a lot of things but one that made sense was that when technology gets in the way of making music it becomes a chore rather than a pleasure.

What's the sound engine based on? Samples or synthesis?

My guess is that it's 'Geist' at less than half the price. I wish they'd stop teasing us and give us the facts. The tease got boring by the third video. I fancy photo-shopping a retro GUI, animating it in After Effects and making a video with some audio loops to plugin tease y'all.

It has 5 synth parts and 8 sample based drum parts.

Looks interesting. If it is standalone.
5 synth parts and 8 sample based drum parts makes it more appealing than Geist.

Gotta have that piano roll in there to compete. I personally dont like to use drum machine as vst .

I think people want more than to bang out a beat on a drum synth and this is where incorporating the ability to host a vst like Maschine made it a winner.

Even Spark will have to make use of a vst in future versions or it will be just another drum box with synthesis.

Regardless of this we are so spoilt for choice now more so than ever.

Geist, Punch, Maschine, Spark, Battery, Kong, Stylus, etc

Cheers

From Imageline forum
Groove Machine is a self-contained sequencer plugin (PC: VST/FL & MAC VST/AU) designed to create and perform 'live loop-style' grooves. Unlike traditional loops you have access to all parts of the groove as you would in any sequencer. Perform, modulate and interact with grooves live or incorporate then into your sequenced projects.

Groove Machine - power, precision, performance.
I think it's have onboard sequencer

As I said, you get 3GB extra if you buy this month plus extra content in the boxed version. But you are right, the price is rather high.

Works for me here (I just tested it in Reaper and FL Studio): hit play on your DAW, browse through the loops with "Slice" and "Auto load" enabled (and probably "Use layers") and the loops will play in perfect sync with the host.

But sorry for hijacking this thread, it's about Groove Machine :-)

As for Groove Machine, I'm still none the wiser what it does and posting more videos does nothing to clarify that. How about some tech specs?
8 Sampler slots (with up to 4 layers each)
5 Synth slots (great sounding synth with ability to load user waveforms)
8 patterns with up to 8 bars each
Stutter Repeat and other FX great for live use
5 Macro controls

Nearly every setting remembered on a per step basis for both synth and sampler (great for creating evolving sounds without the pain of having to do a bunch of automation. think having different lfo's for each note, different sample start times for each note, different unison settings, filter type, enelopes etc )

I hope to have a demo video done up shortly showing it being used with an SL MKII

That does sound pretty good. Looks like it's more in line to go up against Punch than against Geist. I always thought it was a weird move that FXspansion took all they learned about making synths in DCAM and ignored most of it by not putting a synth engine in Giest. I bet it would be pretty kick ass too. Shame. I guess time will tell if Image-line nails it. I thought Punch was really good.

I've said all along that if Geist had a piano roll and vst integration it would be one of the best drum machines out there.

I've made this known to Angus and was one of the reasons I sold it.

I think I will give Groove Machine a go when its released
