Neat solution. I'm trying the TC Electronics stuff out for my Acoustic.

What's the Superscreamer like?

It's a clone of a Fulldrive II, a great allrounder roughly based on a TS808, better, more balanced basic tone and a few neat voicing options.
The 2nd switch is a gain boost.
Plays equally well with SC and HB guitars. :tu:

Hi,

I'd prefer to go with discrete effects. I've ordered a modded Mic Muting Box from Orchid Electronics. This will split the preamp out and one will go direct to the mixer and the other will run some effects.

I'm looking at the Boss Twin pedals (Chorus Ensemble and Space Echo) but I'll check out the TC Electronic stuff.

I usually put an Art Levelar (Fixed Ratio Tube/Optical Compressor/Limiter) at the end on the chain. It adds a nice amount of colour.

Cheers,
Nigel

The effects from both sound great but rather different, TC is miles better regarding audio quality.

Yes I thought they would be. However, my approach to recording most things is to have a pristine direct in, and then have a very coloured effected in too. I can then blend them and add plug-ins as required. I don't mind having slightly inferior audio quality if the tone is better.

My current acoustic FX chain is EHX LPB-1, Art Tube MP (Studio V3), Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus, Guitar Tech Analog Delay (Artec rebrand which is actually digital) and Art Levelar. It's nearly the sound I want, but I need to upgrade to get closer to it.

Cheers,
Nigel

One half lives between preamp out and volume pedal now, bingo, no more tone loss, solved. 8)
Genius! At the Shanghai trade show a couple years ago, I found a guy who built a power amp attenuator into a volume pedal. The thing worked beautifully. 8)

The problem is not limited to my Peavey.
Many tube amps suffer from tone loss when inserting FX, e.g. Dumbles & Co.
Other solutions include:
- mod with a real tube-buffered loop
- the mythical Dumbleator which is just that, in an external box
- the Kleinulator, a MosFET version of the Dumbleator

(from the Ceriatone site)
A friend built me one, works like a charm but is a bit clumsy to use mostly due to the necessary cabling and plugs sticking out on the sides, the TC pedal solution is dual purpose by design and introduces no additional long cables.
- Mark Boogies even allowed you to do this :
A volume pedal can be plugged into this pre-amp/power amp junction jack using just one cable and will operate like a pedal operated remote Master 1 control.

Those sound interesting. Specially the bent RSD-10. I have been trying to bend my RSD-10 over the last few weeks. It is actually open on my workbench now, ready for my next go at the weekend. I can't find anything interesting though. Do you have any instructions for the bends you have made? Would be very interested to know the bends you have made. Can't for the life of me find much. I know there is something in there somewhere. Any tips would be gratefully received.

picked up a second-hand GT-10 with flightcase in perfect condition for £220. The flightcase is just about the size i need for two boards or one big one. Everything bar the Overdrive/Distortion section or block is useable, It will mostly see use for modulation, delay and the slow gear/defretter wierd effects. Was not planned but via a friend of a friend came about. Not bad for the money, still not properly fiddled around with it/scratched the surface and its all fully editable via some USB hook-up librarian utility thing plus also as an interface (which i shall not be taking advantage of). It is decent flexable regarding routings plus I/O. Its in reality overkill for a simpleton setup guy like i am :scared: but might encourage me to play some more clean stuff and odd stuff :drunk:

Must say that i find the older GT-8 much easier to program/edit but i think i have to put that down to being familiar with the GT-6 and GT-8 units

Oh and now i have the right sized case to put the actual board in :P

Hi Dean,
afaik the official soft is only a librarian, but there is a 3rd party editor for the GT-10.
Definitely worth a try, it's free.

Can't say how well it works ...
Sold my GT-8 long ago, it was good standalone but sucked as a MIDI controller, the switches sent out two controllers for each hit, so the G-Major went :wheee:  :wheee: ...
Program change and pedal were alright though, as well as the onboard functions.
Have fun,

Thank you my friend for the information and link to the sourceforge thing :tu:
Feck knows why i would need just a dedicated librarian only thing as it stores plenty of user preset banks/patches as is!

I may well sell the thing myself and possibly make a few quid on it, trade it in or part-exchange for something else or whatnot. I do like the effects but am not all that keen on the 'all-in-one' approach as you know/we have talked about just having what is needed and usually that is one box for one purpose.

The flightcase that was part of the price however is great as it is just the right size for the regular stalwarts i use which you know already

Time will tell whether i keep the GT-10 or not

Have a good weekend and cheers as always :)

My Klon(e) arrived today. Since it was made by a DIY builder, I don't know how it compares to the real thing but I'm pretty happy with it so far. As susiwong said, it works really well with Marshalls, doing a great job of making my 30th Anniversary's JTM45 channel sound like its Plexi channel and making its JMP channel sound like its JCM800 channel.

Hey, great !
Your description makes perfect sense to me, so I guess you're fine.
Some characteristics I could add :
- very little colouring
- much more open sound than e.g. an OCD, less compression too
- very forgiving controls
- cleans up beautifully, you could leave it on all the time
- with a Marshall it just gives you more of what you have, in a wonderful way
- all this makes it less than ideal in front of a clean Fender
Have fun,
susiwong

How do you like the 6100, btw ?

It seems to me that it has a character, it's just that the character is right along the lines of a Marshall so you don't hear it doing its thing. It's a total Marshall-in-a-box in front of my Black Pearl 30 and nothing has made that amp sound more like a JCM800.

I'm happy. The lack of reverb keeps me from resoundingly loving it but it covers the full spectrum of Marshall tones better than anything else I've heard.
