A beautiful instrument - Virsyn does it right

Was just listening to the demo on Virsyn's page - good god this thing sounds gorgeous. There have been some pretty cheezy synth apps on iPad - this isn't one of them. It sounds orders of magnitude more expensive than what it actually costs.

I don't know either, but I think I am entitled to doubt. As someone already pointed out, they have to sell 10 times more to make the same amount of money. And there are already 500.000 apps in the market, and the number are raising exponentially. At this rate the market will be saturated ver soon.xamido wrote:I don't know, i think now developer makes more money from iOs stuff. Even ik multimedia already confirm it in one of their people post here, so i understand why people are moving to iOs stuff.
About their statements - have you ever seen a company admiting they made a bad option? They always say they did a good one - we will know the truth much later only, if ever. But the maths are hardly favourable, even with a saturated market. And these kind of yo-yo moves usually make customers simply look for other alternatives, and when they want to come back, they already lost their user base.
Myself, I cannot commit to a company that let's something like Cube and Tera die.

That's why I dropped virsyn, unfixed bugs then charging way too much for upgrades with bug fixes.
At least with the iOS apps they are cheap, assuming they fix any new os problems.

Yeah, but that's 10 Euros times millions as opposed to thousands of potential iOS customers.fmr wrote:Indeed. I can't uderstand how VirSyn have synths like Cube and Tera, that cost hundreds, dying in their portfolio, and are waisting time and resources programing these things for something like an iPad, where they could only expect to sell it arou8nd like 10,00 euros, and still leave a big percentage for Apple. It's a strange way of thinking business, but what do I know? Maybe they are expecting to sell 1.000.000 of this.DubFox wrote:I really couldn't agree more.aMUSEd wrote:Looks interesting but only a small subset of what their VSTi's can do - I wish they would stop neglecting them

Trust me, I'm a huge fan of VirSyn instruments. While everyone goes gaga over Alchemy I've been saying that I think the Resynthesis engine in Poseidon sounds a lot better to me.
Virsyn is a bit more expensive than the competition but they sound better too. I have mixed feelings about iOS stuff. I see that this is the road to the future, but at the same time I feel the devices are too limited for my uses. I can't fault them for trying to make an inroad in this new format. Hell, I own iSyn! FUN. Maybe if this becomes a big enough cash cow for them they'll have more time and resources to develop their big guns.

If you have an iPad 1 or 2 buy it, it is really good. Harry over a Virsyn made a monster with this one.... The interface is great, and the sounds are wonderful. I use an external little midi keyboard most of the time. But if you use the virtual keyboard on the iPad, you can touch a key, then slide your finger around the screen and do amazing things with the sound. And of course all of it can be recorded. This synth is serious! Truly pro level......~Pd~ wrote:Was just listening to the demo on Virsyn's page - good god this thing sounds gorgeous. Actually not quite right, the arp sync is broken.
Try playing a sequence from an external source via USB, totally out of sync. Even with key sync on.
Also the internal recording is erratic, sometimes sound is totally lost after recording.
Typical lack of beta testers.

I don't have the arp sync problem, but the recording only works every other time. In other words I press record and get 1 click of the metronome. Press it again and it works...... Odd.

I really like this synth a lot.
It sounds great and is a fun to use,
But there is one thing I'm really missing:sonoma's audiocopy, additional to intua's copy.
As long there isn' just one standard, both should be included

Just got this for my iPad. It's bloody awesome! Great sounds and great control. But a bit disappointing to read all the comments from users of the VST stuff. Shame that the seem to be neglecting this side of things but I'm all for the iPad stuff as well because it really is quite impressive.
