They have a different tone. It depends what you play I guess. They are more mellow than standard strings.
There is something about the sound of flatwound strings on bass, I just love that dark, mellow tone. Particularly on a fretless bass, but I can't play those too good. :hihi:

Here is a track that I'm working on with Hink, that features my ibanez with flatwounds... just bass and drums to illustrate the sound.

Cool track. :)

I have to admit I didn't catch you were talking about Bass Strings. I assume they would make sliding easier. I had never really considered Bass and flatwounds.

I owned a Bass once but couldn't get on with it. I write all my Bass lines on a keyboard.

On my Acoustic Guitar I use Galli Flatwounds, as far as I know they are one of the few if not the only company to make Flatwound Bronze strings. They have a really nice feel to play ...and no squeaks.

lol, I didn't know that you *weren't* talking about bass strings. I guess I should start a "Your next bass?" thread.

I love listening to bass, I just suck playing it.

Really?
You just have to remember to mute I thought.
I am not a great player, but I play bass and electric equally well.
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

you see there is the problem, they put too much tarter sauce on them...when I get done eating one it looks like a seagull crapped all over my shirt (which wouldn't be as bad if the damn thing didn't taste like barnacle bilge crap to begin with) :hihi:

I'm a cheeseburger man myself.

For the bassists who are synth heads, I think this is the cat's meow->

Here is a demo. You can get filter envelopes out of it, but here are 2 synth tones wo env.
The bass playing is typically sucky, oh well.
Also I had to put a cloth at the nut to mute pesky chords which throw the device out(it works only when play mono).
Personally I think the tone has a nice analog feel.
I'll play some more now I have it going.
Hope u like the sound 8D
It's a 9mb MP3

Thanks so much for the demo - now I triple want, that sounded badass!

I just phoned the music store, the price is ok, I think that's going to be my first hardware stomp. That really would work with my music.

Now that is beautiful.

That's well sweet to me DF2R :D , hope you love it.
Remember the cloth trick though. You can still play open notes.
I'll hook you up with a software one too. More different waveforms, although the SYB has like 10.
That is a sweet one Susi, but perhaps a little ostentatious for my taste.
I'm happy with just the one Les Paul, the action is fixed now a little luckily, coz I am not 100% on playing with actions.
Do you think belt sanding neck heels is an option to get the neck right? I need to increase the angle(outward when playing), from body on my Strat copy? Trying to get low action, although it is right for slide as is.

Belt sanding definitely is an option, but it requires some skills.
No second chance ... :-o
I prefer veneer shims in the neck pocket instead, almost as good regarding tone and unlimited undo. :scared:
