Did you already forget how good the US Blackstar distributor was to you?susiwong wrote:The amps sound good, but (a big but !) the company is horrible if you need support, in that megasmart IK or Magix way.

I got a little amp that's not software today. I had to buy a new keyboard on instalment, and had to boost the minimum purchase amount a bit, and I have been playing my guitar only through software and headphones. So I decided a cheap practice amp would be cool so I can get away from the computer, and quickly hook it up without all the hassle, and not always blast straight into my ears. I got a Vox Mini 3, it was about $100 or so, they had a sale on. It's got digital modelling, so it's got a bunch of amp styles covering all the main bases, plus FX, and a tuner and stuff. Sounds pretty cool for what it is, it's tiny. I think I'll start recording random things amped through it too.

yeah I have checked them out briefly but not as much as I just did since you posted the link so thanxtodd sweetland wrote:hers another link these are bad a$$ ....
I didn't realize they were handwired and the ones I looked at were not the ultra so I skipped past them because I am not a fan of one 12ax7, but the ultra has two, a line out, an fx loop and speaker outs all for a great price. Please let me know if you get one what you think, I'll be very interested

It's cool that VHT has those $20 6V6->EL84 pin adapters, too. Given that no bias adjusting is being done by the adapter, my guess is the Special 6 isn't hitting its 6V6 very hard and will probably sound better with an EL84. Anyway, it's a surprisingly great sounding amp stock and is bigger sounding than the boxy Mesa Boogie Transatlantic amps (TA-15 head and TA-30 2x12) I played yesterday.
btw, in addition to the Transatlantic's, I played an Electra Dyne and a Dr. Z Stang Ray. The Electra Dyne has a better feel than my Lone Star Special and Black Pearl 30 but those two have better reverb, especially the Black Pearl 30. I really dig the Electra Dyne's gain switching system. The Stang Ray was another disappointment from Dr. Z - the gain went to shit almost immediately - yet here I am still lusting after a MAZ for no good reason.

Vox AC4TV All Tube Practice Amp
http://www.allansbillyhyde.com.au/prod/ ... e_Amp.aspx
I'm gonna go try this one.
Has anyone played one, and how did they find it?
Currently my amp is 8", I'm hoping 10" is big enough, coz the pricepoint seems good.
I am also interested in it's bigger brother, the Vox AC15H1TV Hand Wired Guitar Amplifier.
Hopefully I can play both locally.
Do Vox get props?
Cheers 8D

okay, so being so impressed with the first Frenzel but being disappointed that they added an option of a third pre-amp tube for an '800' sound and given the fact this seems new, this pre-amp (with the two watt option and stereo line outs options) is on my radar right now (they have changed their web page and I do not recall this pre being there before)

btw like with my Frenzel the two watt power tube will add a second transformer and one more tubeThe FRENZEL FM-800Z "Rocker 800" dual channel guitar tube preamp is part of our "INSPIRED" line of products and will give you the classic vintage tones of our Type F(Fender) and Type M (Marshall) tube amps ....and much more. Those of you who watch our auctions know that we sell retro conversion and vintage amps with of our Type F and Type M custom vintage tube preamp circuits. A lot of our customers use the Line Out jacks on these amps to drive other amps and they have asked us to build them custom preamps...so we decided to add stand alone tube preamps to our product line. You can use these preamps to drive your solid state amps to generate the classic 60's vintage tubetones. The FRENZEL FM - 800Z preamp was inspired by the vintage Bassman and JCM800 amps ...but it's far more than a clone....this preamp incorporates features and mods developed over FRENZEL Tube Amps years of building and fine tuning amps!
The preamp uses four 12AX7's to create two separate preamps each with its own Input Jack, Gain control, Tone Stack and Master control. The outputs are fed to a common Output Jack. This allows you to create two distinct sounds and with the use of an AB pedal on the Input Jacks. The output jack has a Trim control which allows you to match the output level to the input level requirements of the amp you are driving it with.
The The F section preamp is voiced like the classic Bassman. The M section is voiced like the classic JCM800. The three band tone stacks were modeled after the original Fender and Marshall stacks and we added a Master volume after the tone stack. With the combination of the separate Gain control, tone stack and Master control you can get just about any sound you ever dreamed of.....including great clean tones of the Bassman...or that fantastic tube preamp overdrive distortion that the Marshall JCM800 amps are famous for.
The preamp is very compact. It is built on a 12"x 8"x 3" chassis. It has laminated faceplates and a bottom cover plate with rubber feet. This is a rock solid point-to-point hand wired amp that uses only the best of parts...low noise tubular polypropylenes caps, metal film resistors, Switchcraft jacks, ceramic sockets, etc. The input jacks are isolated from chassis and it uses a star ground system and DC on the filaments for very low noise.
The front panel controls are Type F Input, Type M Input, Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Master, Power On- Standby - Off. The Output jack, Trim control, and Power Line fuse are on the rear panel.
The inputs are high impedance and the outputs are low impedance. This allows the preamp to work as an effects amp between your guitar and the input jack of your amp....or in your amp's effects loop. It will also drive studio mixers or PA amps. If you have never played through a tube preamp.. you are in for a real treat. If you have, you are still in for a trip, because of the combination of Type F smooth warm tones and Type M high-mid overdrive tones and other extras that have been added. It makes just about any tube amp sound better......and for you guys with solid state amps who are craving that vintage tube sound, you can insert it in front of your solid state amp and get that classic vintage custom sound of your own.
PRICE : $495.00 SPECIAL SALE PRICE $395.00

This allows you to use the FM-DP1 as a low power practice amp as well as a preamp. With this option a speaker jack is added to the rear panel. Please add $90.00 for this option.

A quick word of warning, see what can happen when you leave your amp out in the rain
My

turned into this over night

http://www.steavens.com/products/brian/brian.html
Half the weight, half the size, 1/3 of the power (voxy Class A 4x EL84), monstrous tone and feel, I think this one's an amp both bluesers and metal guys could agree on.
Fat but articulate best describes this little monster, screaming overtones a la Gibbons and thick harmonic feedback are built in - no pedals required.
Two gotchas though :
- chimey cleans, but very limited clean volume, it's a crunch / lead / lead boost amp at heart
- overall not very loud, in low power mode with a little 212 cab it turns into a real bedroom amp, but keeping 90% of the tone intact.
I noticed these limitations while testing, might be a showstopper for some, in my case they work out pretty cool in fact for recording.
Makes a great club setup too, paired with the Blue Angel for cleans, both sharing one stereo 412, the soundman will love the reasonable volume.
Cheers,
susiwong
