Hello
I used Echo audiofire 4 but i got a new notebook pc and it does not have neither a firewire port, neither a pci card slot, but it has 2 usb 3.0 slots...so i have to get a new audio interface...i dont want to spend more than 300 euros....
i guess there are no usb 3.0 interfaces on the market yet...
i have been doing some searches and those are my favourites:

1.roland quad capture
2.focusrite scarlett 8i6
3.NI komplete audio 6
4.terrasoniq phase x64

i will use windows 7 ultimate on my i7, 8gb ram laptop and sonar as a DAW, mainly recording just piano and vocals..

any pros and cons?

hi,

1. I heard very good responses from this audio interface. Good (low) and stable latency. Autosense feature is amazing. But I couldn't find any information regarding converters it has. I assume you'll get descent quality for such price.
2. I don't know anything about this one.
3. Native Instruments is more like fancy thing from my perspective. The only thing I had from NI is KORE and I wasn't really satisfied with it.
4. Never heard about Terrasoniq before.

you can also check Propellerhead Balance audio interface. It seems very interesting for me.

I use an NI Audio Kontrol 1 ... it's always been very good, with quality sound and completely reliable. If I was buying a soundcard today I would go for the NI komplete audio 6. A friend of mine is using one on his laptop with W7, and is very happy with it.

1. No experience.

2. Had the FireWire Saffire Pro40, that was more than excellent for its price. You can expect a solid driver, very-low-latency performance and audio quality that's excellent for this sort of mid range equipment.
They are built like brick snithouses and perform well, thumbs up from me.

3. No experience.

4. I once had a TerraTec Phase22 PCI, that had a driver with nearly no footprint at all (few KB size, no RAM load, compact interface) and it did what it advertised. I never regretted buying it, but I never regretted moving on to something bigger and better (and more expensive). So I guess the Phase X64 will be a solid interface with a solid driver and will give you and overall very good experience. But if the sound is anything like the Phase22 was ... I'd rather go with the Focusrite.

guys,
I've just got Roland UA-55 Quad-Capture and I'm filling the return form already

The audio quality is very detailed and surprisingly good. Latency, I believe it's working as it promised in their Brochure.
So the reason why I want to get rid of it is very low Output headphones Impedance, which is only 47 Ohms. I use my lovely Beyerdynamic DT-250 (250ohm) in production and I barely can hear what track is playing at the moment! Actually I'm joking, it's pretty loud, but you feel comfortable with knob set on max volume, what is not right. Sometimes you need to hear more noise, clicks and sounds in the quiet tracks, but you won't be able to increase the volume since its already on max. I also tried Sennheiser HD25 (70 ohm) - the same result.
So, if it's not crucial for you, UA-55 is very good device.

the Focusrites are GREAT, and the drivers are rock solid. Add to that the Scarlett suite of plugins ($100 value) the decision is made for you

This doesn't directly answer your question, but I can say that I got a Focusrite Saffire USB 6 which I'm using on a Windows 7 32 bit laptop (4 gb RAM, i5 CPU) and overall I am quite happy. Very stable, and makes super-clean recordings. Good customer support too. My only nigggle is that the headphone amp is a little weak.

I bought a ProSonus AudioBox USB. It's $150 new, but I got it on ebay for $71 used. Easy install. Worked properly the first time.

I agree, the headphone amp on my Focusrite isn't that great, but that's a $40 fix max, if it's even an issue. I track loud rock bands and it's always been enough.
