Isn't that true of most musicians? Aside from the Keith Richards of the world, what non-lead-singer guitarists does the public know? If Eddie hadn't the foresight to name the band after himself most people wouldn't know him either. Unless you're a diva ala Lady Gag-gag people mostly just care about the name of the group and maybe the name of the singer. If the rest are nameless studio musicians that would be OK. No one but the music geeks/musicians really care.Uncle E wrote:Sure, WE like them. A long long time ago at MI MAB had a clinic and nobody cared
Anyways though still it's kind fun to watch some of his videos.

It seems to me that more of the general population know Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Slash, Jimmy Page, and Eric Clapton than Frank Gambale, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani. Furthermore, I'm willing to bet that most people would give a big thumbs down to Michael Angelo Batio upon first listen.zerocrossing wrote:Isn't that true of most musicians?
Anyway, I only wrote what I wrote to give hibidy and trimph1 some perspective on their playing. I don't enjoy watching my friends beat themselves up.

Almost overlooked it, you should post a direct pic or two !siriusbliss wrote:Wellll...
Here it is - my new guitar.
http://www.mykaguitars.com/instruments/121/default.htm
It just arrived this past Saturday.
Designed in conjunction with David Myka.
Built to my requirements. David really took on the neck design, and even custom-wound the pickups!
It sounds amazing.
I'll be in sessions the next couple weeks with it, and will post some clips sometime later on this month.
Greg
What a fine piece of art !
Can't wait for the clips to arrive ...
Cheers,

After fiddling with plenty of guitars, I've arrived at the conclusion that my hands are just not big enough for 25.5" scale or even 24.75". I've recently found an old acoustic guitar (1974!) and it fits me perfectly. I suspect that it's a 24 inch scale guitar with a 3/4 body.
So which electrics come at that scale nowadays, apart from the Fender Jaguar and Durango Guitar Works? Suggestions much appreciated.

These are all 24.5" scale length, only slightly easier than 24.75" but they might sound better than 24":

These are 22.5" scale length, which I can't imagine will sound any good:

A friend of mine has a Rickenbacker short scale with a very tiny neck and a huge sacrifice in tone.
None of that chimey twang you'd expect ...
Unless your fingers are extraordinarily "not normal" (no offense meant, and extremely rare), I believe it's simply a matter of practising and correct left hand / thumb /elbow position.
I would check your technique with a really good teacher first.
One of the best virtuoso bass players I know uses a humongous home made long scale bass, the guy's about 1,65 meters tall and has the fat little fingers of a 10 year old.
