At first I wasn0t that much interested (Fairlight, for me, is more a piece of history than anything else) but after all this enthused comments, I felt I also had to make a small contribution to encourage your generous work, and... what the hell - after all I could never even dream to have a Fairlight, and now someone is offering one (kind of) to me :)

Haha, nice that you linked that to Miami Vice. I should see this movie, I've never seen it before. :(
I was thinking more the original TV series from the '80s than the movie. Jan Hammer did the soundtrack for the TV series and made liberal use of the Fairlight. It even featured prominently in the music video for the theme song. :)

Well I've got the library working, but it's got that activate button. How did you get rid of that?

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\Content]
; Replace 4999 with an unused number and enter the name of the library!
"k2lib3838"="Fairlight IIx CMI"

; Enter library name here as well, must exactly match the name above!
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\Fairlight IIx CMI]
; Enter path to the library, all backslashes must be typed as double backslash marks "\\" and don't forget the closing "\\" !
"ContentDir"="C:\\Users\\jobromedia\\Documents\\Fairlight CMI IIx-fabel\\"

; Don't touch this!
"Visibility"=dword:00000003

; Leave one empty line (carriage return) below this comment!
; Change extension to .reg and doudle-click me!

On another note here is a nice demo showing the Fairlight III CMI:

Oops. I don't see anything wrong with yours, provided that the number is unique (you can confirm by checking your registry), and the path is correct. So far it has worked for all that tried.

Some more Fairlight love (cliche I know). Arr1, Orch5, AccBass. Dunno about the piano and harmonica ones.

Can we even talk about the Fairlight without mentioning Kate Bush? She owned one (at great personal expense) and made several VERY cool albums that still stun me with their boldness.

The Dreaming from 1982 is chock full of Fairlight samples, and the title song is the second use of an orchestra hit EVER! Check it out if you want to see how cool major labels USED to be:

Just downloaded the stuff, and can't wait to get my hands it! I've only waited thirty years! :)

Believe me. Those 30 years waiting for this collection has been well worth it! Donation sent.

Anyone know which sounds were used on the Steps Ahead albums?

Hey KVRers,
I'm having some trouble with the downloads. The first folder unzips fine, but folders 2 thru 4 report a damaged archive then show several nested empty folders (MBrass2, TTone and 04 Guitars).

I'm still new in NI world, does it show up as a VI inside PT or Kontakt? Where should the main folders be?

Thanks for any insight, and for all your hard work. I just wanna GET to it, if I can!

And when I try to open the patches in folder 1, I get an unknown error mesage that I've only seen trying to run Kontakt 4 content. I'm using Kontakt Player 3.5 to keep my legacy Pro Tools set-up alive a little longer. Is the CMI written for version 4 or above?

Hi,

this only works with the current Kontakt full version 4.2.3. It was not working with 4.2.2 which i used before. I don't know if it works with the Palyer version with the "hack" reported here.
Unzipping should be no problem. I marked all 4 zip files and unzipped with 7-Zip.

Thanks for the info, Ingonator. I should have read a BIT more closely a few pages back. Edited! :oops:

So there WAS content in your 2-4 folders? I got the folders unzipped, but there's nothing in them. I've downloaded them twice, same result. I don't get why one would expand fine, and the other three didn't.

I guess my PPC Mac is just too long in the tooth for this instrument! I'll need an Intel Mac just to run Kontakt Player 4 now. I'll put the CMI in my folder for things I can't run, but were too good to pass up!

I too am in dire financial straits, Cosmosis, but will contribute as soon as I can...

And someone PLEASE make this man a skin, that green, UGH! :lol:

Hi,

those 4 rar files are parts of ONE file so you have to mark ALL 4 folder and then use unzip/unrar!! The result is one new folder.
That new folder called "Fairlight CMI IIx-fabel" i copied into my Kontakt 4 library folder and then openend the nki files in the "Instruments" folder inside Kontakt 4 (i got the full version BTW).
