The distortion is good, but I'm not too sure about the amp - I seem to get a lot of noise using it with the gain turned up that I don't get with other amp sims. I have single coils in my Tele, but not sure that's the only reason.
Think I need to experiments with some cab sims, but seems good so far.

That's strange...robojam wrote:The distortion is good, but I'm not too sure about the amp - I seem to get a lot of noise using it with the gain turned up that I don't get with other amp sims. I have single coils in my Tele, but not sure that's the only reason.

Never had noise issues with NRR-1, with both active and passive pickups the amount of noise is perfectly acceptable on my system (M-Audio ProFire 610 and shitty cables). Gotta say I've never tried single coils, though...
Other amp sims are not always a good reference when comes to noise, because you should keep in mind the internal gain structure and filtering of the amps in question.
Cheers and thanks for trying it!

Don't get me wrong, I liked what I initially heard but was surprised about the noise. Perhaps there are undocumented noise gates in other amp sims?
Do you have any recommendations for cabs that I might try to match to in Guitar Rig? It's definitely an interesting amp but I didn't have too much time to experiment yet.

I don't think it is a matter of internal gating, but as I've said it is probably related to the internal circuit emulation.
About the cabs, I don't have guitar rig, but for hi-gain, considering the amp is inspired by a SLO/X88R circuit, I would try some "modern"-voiced cabs, like Mesa, if there is one in GR...

robojam mate, I always put a Boss NS-2 in front of anything high-gain wise (whether that be real or virtual amp it works just the same for me but YYMV). If you get chance then give one a try/can be had for peanuts online. For an ITB solution and free preFIX (Bootsie/Variety Of Sound) is as good as it gets for me (but again YYMV). I do not use single coils either personally but they are naturally prone to being noisy swines (unless they are of the 'noiseless' variety using an extra hidden/stacked coil...etc.)
Hope that helps dude

I can probably put the noise gate in Live in front of it as the noise isn't really that loud compared to playing.
I should really invest in some noiseless pickups I guess.
