Great news about the 5U4 there....I'd like to know how that works out for you...I think you'll like the results!Uncle E wrote:Jeff Genzler, the founder of Genz Benz, wrote back to me and told me I can substitute in a 5U4 rectifier to try to get more sag. First off, how cool is it that the founder of the company wrote back to me 24 hours later simply from receiving an e-mail through their site? JRR isn't even a Genz Benz dealer! Anyway, I'll give that a shot soon and will bring home my attenuator, hopefully those two things will give me the squash I'm missing from that amp.
p.s. Hink, my Black Pearl 30 cost me $600 used. Considering the amazing tone and the $250 speaker it's loaded with, I really think it's a bargain.
Your next amp

Cheers, No rush for a Sunn amp but the way they dissapeared was rapid. Fender do a 300 watt valve bass amp head which is pretty much identical to the Sunn bass amp on the Sunn page but yes s/h is 'my' waytrimph1 wrote:@Dean...Sunn Amps?
http://www.sunnamps.com/ I guess they are now owned by Fender ....
I guess, probs wrongly, that you should be able to find the dang things in some s/h stores...it even has a Facelessbook page!!![]()

Like Genz Benz cabs and Bass Amps but not much time with any of the guitar amps. One 2x12" they do is a monster for teh heavy shitz!trimph1 wrote:Great news about the 5U4 there....I'd like to know how that works out for you...I think you'll like the results!Uncle E wrote:Jeff Genzler, the founder of Genz Benz, wrote back to me and told me I can substitute in a 5U4 rectifier to try to get more sag. It seems to me that you'd like the high gain Genz Benz El Diablo, given how percussive and bass heavy my Black Pearl 30 can get, but I haven't read great reviews of it. Anyway, check out this monster of a rig:Dean Aka Nekro wrote:Like Genz Benz cabs and Bass Amps but not much time with any of the guitar amps. One 2x12" they do is a monster for teh heavy shitz!

Indeed that is yet another thing i have written on my list already...My list is mental though but most is just to try for an hour not buy each!Uncle E wrote:It seems to me that you'd like the high gain Genz Benz El Diablo, given how percussive and bass heavy my Black Pearl 30 can get, but I haven't read great reviews of it. what's up with jet city? First the picovalve went from 299 to 249, now the 20H has dropped to 219...typically I would suspect maybe they were over priced to begin with but they were not and now dropping to crazy low prices. Is there something new? If there is why can't they get that iso cab released...I gotta say it's very tempting to pick up both but the 20H as Eric says does well with with some tube changes...

Or even without. With the stock tubes, it does the smooth Soldano ultra-gain thing really well.Hink wrote:the 20H as Eric says does well with with some tube changes...

Eric, any idea on the iso cab and when it might actually be available...also is it worth it?

I had the same experience with Jeff Genzler. I was having an issue with blown fuses in my Black Pearl 2x12. He responded personally (and quickly) and sent me a few fuses. The amp has been fine ever since.Uncle E wrote:Jeff Genzler, the founder of Genz Benz, wrote back to me...how cool is it that the founder of the company wrote back to me 24 hours later simply from receiving an e-mail...?

I have to admit I am at the point of giving up on the iso cab, seemed to me when I first saw it that it was too good to be true...that was January when I first saw it advertise at online stores. Of course this is not the first time this has happened with gear, they are in the catalogs and pushed back, pushed back and pushed back....I have yet to buy any of those things I waited for. It's too bad, but what I am doing now is working fine and the longer I wait the more I realize that I may not need the cab at all

Randall also made 112 iso cabs, I could get a s/h mint one for €200 locally, not too interested myself as I'm working towards isolated rooms atm.
They should probably be even cheaper in the US ...
I know the seller, he said it sounds pretty decent with the Celestion, it is certainly not 100% silent but enough to use in a normal apartment no problem.
Please note, this is what he said, did not try myself.

this is where I'm leaning as well, we have this very high ceiling here and plenty of room for a 4x4 iso booth. The cost is fairly high but probably worth it in the long run, what stops me is the uncertainty of my future living plans.susiwong wrote:Randall also made 112 iso cabs, I could get a s/h mint one for €200 locally, not too interested myself as I'm working towards isolated rooms atm.
I love it here but have only been here one year, I stay in Masachusetts because of my daughter's school and because I need to be here for my mother. Given this economy I cant say for a fact that I will be here the rest of my life though at this point I have no desire to move. However in the future (hopefully far in the future) I will be inheriting real estate plus, I have no desire to live there (my mother's house) at all but because I am a veteran I get the VA home loan and if I sell that property when the time comes it could be my ticket out of this state and into a house in Maine...where volume will not be an issue.
I lived at the last place for 15 years so the concept of being here for the rest of my life is not out of the picture. However if I can own instead of rent while saving money it's a no-brainer (trust me, I am very active in checking out real estate in Maine right now and watching what my costs would be). It's all about economics at this point and what is the greater good for all of my family.
BTW I was looking into those randall cabs as well but the only dealer I could find never had them, promised when he did he would get back to me and never has

If you're going that direction, maybe it's worth just building a 6' tall vocal booth? Also, can you build modular and/or movable booth? In any case, this'll probably sound better than a small iso cab.Hink wrote:this is where I'm leaning as well, we have this very high ceiling here and plenty of room for a 4x4 iso booth.
I have a Demeter silent cabinet that I got from Page Hamilton from Helmet. Are you interested in that?BTW I was looking into those randall cabs as well but the only dealer I could find never had them, promised when he did he would get back to me and never has
