Not currently. I just submitted the 1.1 update, which includes Core Midi support. This is something I'd definitely consider for a future update though.Locus M wrote:Hi
Does this synth have multitasking for running audio in the background, e.g. Beatmaker?
GrainBender iPad synth is available in the app store today!

Please do! If you have any suggestions or other feedback I'd be very interested to hear them.

Hmm..! As far as understand, it does not have and arp, a step seq or a metronome function either?kuniklo wrote:Not currently. I just submitted the 1.1 update, which includes Core Midi support. This is something I'd definitely consider for a future update though.Locus M wrote:Hi

In that case it is hardly usable as a loop generator for NanoStudio or BM2 I am afraid, e.g. you can not make a beat at 120 BPM in BMII and add a tight loop from Grainbender, unless you are lucky or use a mechanical metronome?
You should really consider adding at least one of the features above if not multitasking.
But best of luck anyway.

@locus m
I agree, but FYI....
I use "Tempo Advance", a metronome that plays in the background on iOS. Works with most synths.....

Cool. Thanks. I 'll get it asap. At least there is a workaround then, but with all respect and best wishes to kuniklo, IDewaine wrote:@locus m

will pass grainbender until one of the features is implementet. I prefer a step seq, but multitasking could also do it, like with Synth X that does not have a stepseq, metronome and arp either but works with BM II.

Thanks for the ideas Locus. It's useful to me to hear how others want to work because everyone has different priorities for features. I'll definitely consider adding a metronome or background playback feature in the next update.

The 1.1 update is out today and includes Core Midi support. Automation within GrainBender patches also sends midi so you can use the automation features of GrainBender to add movement to patches on your other synths.
This version also sports an improved (IMO) skin.

A clarification - since GrainBender doesn't have a built-in sequencer it seems that there's not much benefit for it to run in the background at the moment, right? But it would be useful if it co-operated with other apps playing in the background?
I'm just making sure I understand how people want to use this feature.

Dear Kuniklo. The idea is that beatmaker 2 shall run in the backgound while playing the grainbender (like synth X) and not the other way around.kuniklo wrote:A clarification - since GrainBender doesn't have a built-in sequencer it seems that there's not much benefit for it to run in the background at the moment, right? That's what I thought. I'll look into implementing this in the next update. Thanks!Locus M wrote: Dear Kuniklo. The idea is that beatmaker 2 shall run in the backgound while playing the grainbender (like synth X) and not the other way around.

I've got this playing over BM2 now. This was actually a very easy fix.
But from what I can BM2 doesn't support the Sonoma pasteboard, only the general iOS pasteboard, so I'll have to add support for that before they'd really be useful together. This shouldn't be hard to do either though.

Actually it looks like the version of Sonoma's AudioCopy I'm using *does* paste to the Intua pasteboard as well. I was just a little confused by the BM2 paste feature.
So I'm going to kick the tires on this a little more and make sure it doesn't break anything but chances are this will go in an update soon.

Great. Now for future inspiration, I will try to give you an overview over ways to use synths together with BMII according to what features they got:kuniklo wrote:So I'm going to kick the tires on this a little more and make sure it doesn't break anything but chances are this will go in s like an update soon.
1. Copy and paste. You can start making a loop in the synths and then paste it to BMII. However you can not listen to the result to add further loops from the same synth. You'll etiher have to rememeber the tune while playing or simply experiment.
2. Copy and paste with background audio (e.g. synth X): You can start making a loop in the synth, export, make new loop while listening. Record , paste, listening etc. However you have to "play" the loops in real time while recording so you might have to make a few takes before it sits there.
3. With an arp in addition(e.g. Nlog synth, minisynth pro) and background audio, you can play and export more tight phrases to BMII.
4. With a step seq in addition (e.g. addictive syn, iSyn poly, Argon), you can make fast arpeggios, busy basslines, leads ect. and paste them in one take.
However, even if you add a step seq there is currently no way to tempo sync synths to BMII. So when I am using a step seq, I often have to restart it about every forth measure or else it runs out of sync. But this is more than enough to get an idea.
Hopefully they will implement tempo sync sometime in the future.
Thanks for listening to my suggestions. I'll buy it, the very minute the updated version arrives in the store.
