Yes, would you mind to inform me in case the issue is also (or only) related to Stillwell plugs? I'd like to let Scott know, I love those plugs and would like to continue to use them... some of my fave plugs, like DMG - I'll surely use them together in future projects.

Of course, if you or Dave are in touch with Scott and want to pass the info, it's ok for me, as you might have a better insight of the problem than I do.

Thanks :)

So could you possibly test Compassion and Cloner's compatibility, see if that causes it :) I can't reproduce the error with just a few instances of both in a new project, but taking cloner out has released COMPassion. Only thing in common is that I am using them as VST3's.
Seems like an issue manifesting with a combination of plugs and DMG / Stillwells are not the only ones. Ouch.

EDIT: also, in my case both COMPassion and MajorTOM are VST2.

LP Spit EQ Parameter has now three Options: off, PL and Split. What does the PL mean (and do)? The Manual has only "off" and "Split".

And as we are on it: two of the abbreviations are in this palette are a bit cryptic to me:

EQ int SC: was does the "Int" stand for?
LP Spit QE: What does the "LP" stand for. My first guess was "Low Pass". But this seems to be not appropriate as the EQ can be set LP, HP or Bandpass.

Maybe Dave (or someone else) can help with some explanations ...

I really like the EQ and all its options!

phase linear maybe?

int = internal?

LP means linear phase...PL means parallel...
PL was added w/ one of the updates.... Split EQ "PL" (parallel) option for more efficient mastering workflow
now the manual needs an update...

Hate to be the bringer of bad news, but EQuality is doing the exact same thing now as COMPassion in the same project.

I cannot put another instance of EQuality or COMPassion into the project, nor can I open some of the existing ones, i'm not sure why I cannot open others, but it's the same crash for both.

It's a very bizarre crash, I cannot suss out a pattern to it, but needless to say it's becoming a real problem as I have numerous instances of both in the project and previously I could edit them, now I can't without it crashing the host.

Post

Is the crash bug a 64bit specific issue?

Best I can tell this LOOKS like it's a bug in other plugs where they're malfunctioning when instanced >2GB in ram.

Can anyone repro in 32bit before running out of ram?

Dave.

Anything that isn't 64bit is jbridged. But they aren't crashing, the crash only happens when trying to view EQuality or COMPassion or load a new instance.

Hi all,

This crash issue seems to be specific to these Stillwell plugs running 64bit on Windows. There are reports of other scenarios where this crash reproduces entirely without any DMGAudio plugins present. It appears to be related to sessions which are using something near 2GB of ram, and the Stillwell plugs failing when instanced that high in memory.

I've dropped Stillwell a line about this, and I'll work with them to help them fix this; the Cubase session might be an excellent thing for this! ;)

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Dave, I also contacted Scott approx. one week ago...great that you'll help them fix it :)
Anyhow, I reproduced the same scenario on my XP x86 laptop and all of the plugs worked perfectly - I did it again on my Win7 x64 machine loading Cubase 32bit: no issues as well. Seemingly a 64bit issue indeed.

MajorTOM didn't crash on a "mix-ready" project with just 6 instances of COMPassion and MajorTOM.

Do you mean the C6 project with the 120 instances + MajorTOM? I didn't save it, but can build it up again.

Cheers

Afraid not, I don't have a single stillwell plugin running.

Dave, I can send you the project file if you have Cubase 6.0.3 64bit to test on.

Second attempt. My license is running out. Would be cool to check this out. Thanx. :)

Yes please!
And perhaps a few descriptive words for the existing ones. Experienced people or Members of the SICG (Secret Insider Compressor Gang) may enjoy the guessing game for the characters. But others would benefit from more information. I understand, that they can't be labelled with "SSL-Clone" or "Focusrite-Clone" for obvious reasons. And those clear text labels wouldn't help either.

What I like to read is something like this:
Classic Opto has the slowest response times of all compressors, attack and release curves are quite broad (less precise). They are often used for quite recognisable effects (Examples) ... Try experimenting with the Timing Scale parameter ...
(Just an example, read with caution. I don't know much about those details ;-)

Compassion is such a mighty tool and I learn a lot about compressors in general when using its. But it would speed up my learning if I'd get some more background info.

Do you reckon I could write about this stuff as a series of blog posts?
'cause I'd love to write more blog posts, and it might be a fun way to do it...?

The Mod exchange is coming btw... we're deliberating exactly how best to implement (whether a forum or some kind of system that makes it all nicer etc) but this week there might well be a new product, so AAAAAAGH SO MUCH TO DO!
:)
