Take a look on this thread.

Hall of Fame Music Cafe
Simply awesome and informative.

I would like to do the same, but about OSC. So it would be a thread appart, not in this one as you asked.
Also, if sticky would be even better.
But to making an alike thread with these real-time-link player (blue colors, play button in white, which let's call it practically the KVR player) i need to have direct links of the MP3s tracks.

So, from this point, i have two doubts.
Need i to ask permission to every past contestant/winner to make these direct links? (for sharing their tracks in that thread only)
But i doubt this because their tracks are already shared in archive.org.
But i like to ask just in case.

And also, could you give me a hand/permission for use the links from Archive.org (where you upload the mp3 tracks every month for using in the OSC site player)
Which is this one.

I'm almost sure that that player in OSC site must have embeded direct links of all the tracks (which are hosted in Archive.org), right?
So i need those links to make real the thread i'm talking about.

So could you show me from where i could extract these links? (I will make the whole job, i just need where are the links)

That's all, i hope i could explain myself better this time :)

EDIT: Don't worry, i already found the links and they work here :)
I'm starting the thread ;)

Have a good day :)

This is all very confusing, have tried uploading my track as a WAV file and it's definitely sounding worse after transcoding than the equivalent MP3 version. Will experiment a bit more, but 320kbps still seems to give the best results for me (but far from perfect)

Agree that it's confusing. I thought from the tests I did the other day that 128kbps was the best for encoding, but I just tried it with my submission for this month and liked my original 256kbps encode better.

I was hoping to discover one single optimal encoding format but now I'm finding that it really seems to depend on the material. Sometimes 128 is best, sometimes wav is best, and sometimes 320 is best. Doesn't seem to be just one that is best for everything.

Next month I think I'll upload 3 different formats for my track and pick the best one to submit. Probably doesn't make sense to spend too much time fretting over it because if anyone just listens to a track on soundcloud instead of downloading it they probably aren't very concerned about sound quality anyway.

Hm, I just don't get it, what's wrong with the links? And what do you mean extract them? :? If they don't work as they are now I doubt there's anything I can do with them, there's no special permission or anything like that involved, they are free and open to all to begin with anyway..

But for Dropbox I thought you need to have the files on your hard disk where they are synchronized to the cloud, no external links involved?

Post

As i said don't worry, i just needed to know where were the links, but i already found them and works perfect also.
You know sometimes i explain myself like the ass :hihi:

I'm already making the thread. I hope any mod could make it sticky.
Could you ask about it to any mod?

Thanks in advance mate.

I just finished the fifth OSC.
Any suggestion about how to call this post?
At the moment is called OSC Hall of Fame, but would be better not to copy the another thread.
So suggestions requested.

So you didn't know where the downloads were yet?? :smack: At first that's what i thought u meant but couldn't believe which was the cause of the confusion..

But i doubt you'll get a sticky for this, we've been limited to 2 threads and if there should be another, it really ought to be this discussion thread that already has 26000 views.

Lol sorry. You know i'm the most distracted person in world  (and also i'm sick these days with a bit fever) so double distraction. You should see my inexpressive face now.

I already sent a pm to Meffy, let's see what he says.

In extreme case he says a NO, we could ask for sticky for this one and i could send you my hard work (i'm going for OSC11 yet) so you could paste it in the first post and edit it.

See you in some minutes.

I hope it's not too late for this :). I've read your answers with real pleasure.

1. I like them a lot! First main reason is that the idea is great, as it's demanding, constraining and inspiring - you have to do it all with just one synth and moreover it doesn't need to be a state-of-the-art one. Second main reason is the great atmosphere here, made possible by you all. It's just such pleasure to share these tracks, comment on others' tracks and getting constant feedback that it makes me want coming back again.

2. I started in May and participated twice, in May and in June. I hope to submit more tracks in the future.

3. Well, probably nothing major. After all, I might improve my tracks :D

4. I'm 22 years old and I play keyboards since I was 11 (well, you could hardly play with my first keyboard :) ). I started making my own tunes almost from the start as I soon started to love that.

5.
CPU: Phenom II955 3,2 ghz Quad
RAM: 4 gb
HD: Samsung 1 TB 7200
HOST: Reaper 4
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Soundcard: ESI Juli@
Benq HD2200 (or something like that) 22 inch monitor
Korg TR and Kore 2 as my midi controllers
Tannoy Reveal 501A speakers
I should get some good headphones as I don't have any decent ones.

6. I listen both when they are uploaded and after.

7. I won some points only ;)

Tom

1.-How do you like OSC contests?

Stellar! got me making music again after a long hiatus...

2.-When did you started to come into OSC contests?

January 2011

3.-What would you like to improve or change?

Keep it Freeware only! :)

4.-How old are you and how many years you were composing?

Hang on, gotta do the math... 37 years on this planet, 23 years or so makin' music.

5.-What is your equip?
CPU: not exactly sure... I'll edit this later...
RAM: 2 Gb
HD: see CPU
HOST: Reaper 4
OS: Windows XP
HARDWARE, Old M-Box, Oxygen 8
HEADPHONES Sony MD7506
SPEAKERS: Event 20/20
6.-Do you like to download all OSC tracks at same time and start listen to them or do you prefer listening while they are being uploaded?

Both!

7.-How many prizes do you have from OSC contest? (in case you won any)

I did get the RMP2 from Krakli, but he generously gave it to all of us!

Post

1.-How do you like OSC contests?

Love of course, limitation is liberating and educational, deadline productive.

2.-When did you started to come into OSC contests?

OSC 11 with Flex-N-Stein which is quite a nice synth made by Tattiemannie. Just rediscovered KVR forums after a longish break from music, and recently read somewhere about how one should really be able to make something with little, so after seeing the OSC thread decided to try this theory without thinking to enter but things flowed like never before and was so much fun.

3.-What would you like to improve or change?

Well obviously the occasional payware for inspirational change and to fit more with KVR. Also like a site player with better sound than SoundCloud, but there's always download and Archive.org player after deadline.

4.-How old are you and how many years you were composing?

45. Been writing since i made an instrumental with my guitar band at 15, and then for myself and a 4-track Fostex tape deck with Roland JX8P and Korg MS-10 some years later to leave it until the PC and Cubase arrived a decade after that. The first virtual synth I bought was VAZ which i thought amazing then and actually still is - a vst hall of famer no doubt about it. But very much on and off over the years.

5.-What is your equip?

CPU: Intel dual core 3.2
RAM: 4GB
HD: X 3 = 1.5 TB
HOST: Reaper
OS: XP 32
HARDWARE: Roland JP-8000 as keyboard and controller
SOUNDCARD: RME HDSP 9652
HEADPHONES: AKG K 701
SPEAKERS: Dynaudio BM6A

6.-Do you like to download all OSC tracks at same time and start listen to them or do you prefer listening while they are being uploaded?

Once when uploaded and then all downloaded for further listening after deadline.

7.-How many prizes do you have from OSC contest? (in case you won any)

Thanks for your time, mate, it made me happy you finally got some time to reply it :)

Finally, a UK friend sent to me the little CM mag scan.

Image
Original Size here for blind persons like me lol

There are some mistakes, like about we have 4-6 weeks to finish a track, which is only 4 really. And also, he was asking to CM to make a contest like OSC in their magazine.
But hey, people who have read that, will know about our OSC contests, so it's free promo really :)

If there is any problem in post the scan, just let me know and i will delete as soon as possible, and no problem.

Have a good day :)

Cheers for the scan, fun to see. And a good letter too, well summed up. Thx for the nice promotion to both Dead Eddy and CM. :tu:

I guess the 6 week reference was to before when upcoming synths were announced early, remember it's only recently this practice has ended. But I don't think there's any mention that CM should make a similar comp, Irion.

Well, it could be my reading comprehension once again lol, but i have read this:
Rather than endlessly criticising other people's tunes, why not use a competition deadline to produce one of your own?

So i understood about he was asking to them to make a comp like this in their magazine.

Don't worry, i shall do it... :hihi:
