The song
  • You are opening your eyes and seeing a precious landscape.
There are little mountains, rocks and water rivers crossing the whole place.
All is in blue colours, due the atmosphere is clean.
A bright light is shinning in a pure white between some clouds. It must be a star.

You are walking slowly in the coast.
Near the sea, on the shore you can see your footsteps behind.

You look at your hands which are grabing a kind of crystal tube with a liquid in it.

And a thought pass inside of your head in a strange language says that is a perfect place to do it.
Indeed, this must be the perfect place to do it...
    Image

Your body approach to the calm waters and your hands breaks the crystal artifact to droping the liquid into the sea.

You are staring at the sky, waiting, they must be about to come.

Suddently, a great sand storm raises and surrounds you.
The footsteps dissapears in the wind.
You can listen a deep sub-sound going thru the atmosphere, going from the west to the east.
The huge gale moves the waters.

When the wind seems to ease you can see an obscure giant squared artifact ship in the sky. With some edges in each side and lights everywhere.

Finally, they came to bring back you home.
A shinning powerful light surrounds you and you start floating into the ship, a giant gates opens for you...

...While the mothership is leaving the place, you can see a little and lonely blue planet dissapearing in the distant in a little window in front of you.

This happened millions years ago, when life and human awareness did not exist yet...

    ...All started in the ocean.

Notes

Track composed in 15 hours.
About 10 renders until i find myself confortable with the result.
I forgot to mention that all the rifts, arpeggios were handmade (and with my mouse) as usually, hehe.
I need to improve my mastering yet. I hope to do it better next time.

I got some crackling as usually, but dealed with them.
Anyway this will be my last track before i get the new PC. No more crackling, CPU spikes.
I will make my tracks in real time without being affraid about anything more.

As usually, idea extracted from a dream and my thoughts.

Nothing more to say, i hope you all enjoy the track and please, as usually, set your sub-bass woofer blowing the whole building with my track and enjoy the epic melody part as i did :)

Have a good day :)

Wow, I am running out of time...I forgot I have to go away for 2 days, this Friday and Saturday. Plus there is a big storm headed to the New England, hurricane Irene which might throw a big wrench in the works on Sunday.

EDITED (for clarity / adding image / re-drafting tune before deadline).

I'm copying Irion Da Ronin's submission format as I also would like to provide as much info as possible with the aim of learning (and teaching?).

Composer - Song Name
Dead Eddy - "Extenuating Circumstances"

To clarify: Objectman (a.k.a. me/Edwin) is a member of the band "Dead Eddy"

Equipment
Pentium Dual Core (1st one on market)
2.6 Ghz, 4 Gb RAM.
Windows XP 32bits.

Edirol UA-25 sound card
Edirol MA-15 powered speakers
Edirol PCR-800 Midi Keyboard
AKG K171 Headphones
Ableton Live

Instances
15 instances of Cakewalk Z3ta+

Built-In Effects Used
None. Presets only.

Free External Effects
Karma FX (ping-pong) Delay
AraldFX AXV5
Kjaerhaus Classic Delay and
Kjaerhaus Classic Reverb
Mild compression with

Mastering
Molot Compressor
Kjaerhaus Classic Limiter

Automations
None really. A bit of curving off if a preset didn't fade in or out well. Suppose I could have ADSR'd but I don't quite know enough about programming sounds yet.

The inspiration
Packing up my day job as a Uni Lecturer / Tutor and having to put up with fail students who complain. The album / track cover is an image of one of my students getting rid of evidence that he has actually completed the set assignment by setting fire to "the dog that ate his homework."

Notes
Track composed in about 14 hours. Started in a key, but then made a mistake (not sure how to change key of a bunch of midi notes in Live - can it be done?) so I went with the mistake which gave a nice weird reprieve. Then the fight was one of trying to get rid of the "repetitive nature" of the track while not losing the positive side of phrase repetition. A balancing act.

Enjoy. Looking forward to hearing what others do for this comp as Zeta2+ is pretty cool.

Doc Jon - Reinventing the Wheel

The original title was 'Blatant Plagiarism' but I decided not to go with that in the end!

Host - Cubase 6
24 instances of Z3TA+
Effects - Z3TA+ fx, Kjaerhus compressor/delay/reverb, George Yohng W1 Limiter
EQ - Host EQ
Automation - volume, filters and panning
Theme - mainly retro, with modern bits, apologies for breaking the 5 minute barrier

Soundcloud, much as I love it, has done its usual best to compromise the quality. I think the transcoded version is acceptable, however, as always, please download for best listening experience

Perhaps adding the soundcloud download link to the submission post (like IrionDaRonin did with the clickable album cover) could encourage more people to listen to the higher quality version.

@IrionDaRonin: How do you make a clickable image in a forum post? I did a search but couldn't find anything

That is an excellent idea, so good in fact that I'll edit my submission post with a link

As to the clickable image link - no idea how he did that, far too clever for me. Perhaps IrionDaRonin will be along soon to put us out of our misery

Hi pals, no more misery, don't worry :)
I will explain all from beginning, for those who doesn't know how to do it.
For Doc Jon and Evo2slo, skip to the third and fourth steps directly.
I edited this tutorial with an easier way to do it.

First step - Uploading your track

Go to Soundcloud, upload your track, set it as downloadable.

Second step - The track link.
  • Hard mode (but safe)
You can do this going into your uploaded track, clic in the arrow to download and move the cursor over the "download" word. (If you are using Firefox, you could see a link at below the navigator)
Just push second mouse button and select "Copy link route".
Now, you have your track link.
Which is this next as example.
http://soundcloud.com/irion-da-ronin/ir ... s/download
  • As you can see, normally, the download link is like your track link but adding a /download words.
(I'm saying this in case you have not Firefox or you don't want to do it in hard mode, like i explained and you want to try the Easy mode explained a bit below)
Some examples:
http://soundcloud.com/docjon/doc-jon-re ... l/download
http://soundcloud.com/evo2slo/evo2slo-d ... l/download
http://soundcloud.com/irion-da-ronin/ir ... s/download
  • Easy mode (but "unsafe", unsafe because it's difficult to know if it will work or not, normally does)
As you can check, the download link is always the track link + '/download' word addition. So just add the '/download' addition to your track link, and you are set.
Third step - The image link
  • When you have your track uploaded, insert a pic for that track in Soundcloud, like i usually do.
You can do this while uploading your track, choose a pic from your Hard Disc and upload it, so this pic will be sticked to your track. (You also can do it this editing the track)
I set my cover albums as 400x400 pixels always (Since is the Soundcloud default size for pics and also fits nicely on KVR posts)
You can use any free image editor to do this. Like Gimp for example.

Once your track is properly uploaded, clic on your track image, so it should move to the center of the screen. (At least in Firefox)
Move your cursor over the centered image and push second mouse button and press "view image". The image should appear alone in a white background.
Now you need to delete some words.

For example, in my Genesis pic, the link which i got is:
http://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000010743 ... pg?8460df1

Delete the '?8460df1' part until the link is only like this next:
http://i1.sndcdn.com/artworks-000010743 ... 6-crop.jpg

You need the last word of the link is PNG, JPG, or GIF, the image format itself. In this case, JPG.

So there you got your image link.

Fourth step - Now that you have the image link, and the track link, you just need to use this next code to embed in KVR forum properly.

track link]Image

Image

Once done this, you also can put some words below the image as "Clic on image to download directly, or go to OSC group link]OSC group to listen first".
Like i did.

Remember also, there are two OSC groups links, so use the correct link each month.

Remember always, before you post something in KVR, use the 'preview' button to check if you are doing the things well. When you see the preview mode, you can check links, images, etc if everything will be in order.

If you have more doubts, just let me know, and i will try to help you all, as usually.

Have a good day :)

Whew! I made it before the hurricane hit! :)

My song submission for the OSC of KVR.

Examigan - Tempest
http://soundcloud.com/examigan/examigan-tempest

Uses 17 instances of Z3TA+, automation from the host on some of the instances of Z3TA+, 3 instances of Anwida reverb (free version) and the host's EQ.

Also used BetaBugsAudio's W1 Limiter (free) and host EQ on the master mixdown.

No other effects, compression or otherwise, except the included effects in Z3TA+.

Host used: Sonar Producer 8.5 / 2 gigs RAM, 2.8 ghz Dual-Core PC

Please click "Download" button to hear it the RIGHT way (well...as close as possible that is), as Soundcloud isn't great for HIFI representation.
