Hello all,

Recently ordered an Ipad and expect it to come in soon. I'm pretty excited. As I await its arrival I'm pondering the best way in which to integrate it into my equipment set up. The Alesis IO dock is the most appealing option I've found apart from the price tag. But, in my research it seems any other equally functional setup using multiple hardware pieces would be just as, if not more expensive.

I'm simply looking for advice from anyone who has an ipad and is using it in their setup. Just wondering what you've found effective, and the pros and cons of different setups.

Thanks!

I was all set to go with IO Dock but then I started hearing troubling reports about MIDI issues causing missing and hanging notes and stuff. There is a video on YouTube where the guy does a pretty detailed review. All seems to work very well ...... Up until the point where we hear a hanging MIDI not. The video then jumps forward indicating the guy probably needed to shit Down the App (I think he was using Garage Band) before continuing.

Digital Village have these in stock now so I might see if I can demo one before buying. In the mean time there are not many alternatives at present. The Lexicon Omega apparently works a treat as it's powered by mains supply and requires no drivers. Any other interface that is mains powered and requires no drivers should also work but there are no other official iPad devices at present. If you only need audio IO or MIDI IO then there are the irig and MIDI Mobilizer devices. But it looks like we could still be waiting for the definitive iPad interface.

Hi,

in my opinion the only feature missing on the Alesis iO Dock is SPDIF In & OUT for sync with computer.
Don't you think so?
