Thanks for the quick reply, I agree 99.9% with what you say,
so I just have few comments, please see below
Spitfire31 wrote: Hi Luigi,

Let's start with your 2). Right on the money - it's the Sync feature that is haunting the arpeggiated patches if the host isn't running.

That's a bit hard to guess for someone just diving in and browsing presets…
Yes I see that now, sorry for not thinking of that earlier,
It's harder still, because Sync is hidden at the bottom of the Edit tab AND its even harder because not all arped presets are labelled as such.

MY IDEA: a) Make arpeggiated factory presets not use Sync as default, b) take care to label all arpeggiated patches as such and c) create a twin 'Sync Arp to Host' button in the basic UI.
Yes to all, but for b) we have the tag system for presets already, we will improve the tag filter interface so that it's easier to select the arp presets alone,
but also notice that you will clearly see that the Arpeggiator button is lit when you select a patch that use it, just look at the "Modules" pane.
Anyway, no bug, just education necessary… ;-)
Thanks, <grin>
1) Mono mode. Sorry, but however I switch those presets like Short Rip and others between Legato, Mono and Poly, the problem remains when playing from a MIDI keyboard. The Entity graphic keyboard works. The hitch is the 1 Voice setting. If I switch to 2 or more voices, the patches become playable.

This may be a bug or glitch of some kind, perhaps.
Yes this may be a little bug or a flaw of "mono retrigger"
I have a couple of other impressions.

Please, please, pretty please implement scroll wheel support! It's so frustrating having to mouse around to find that (too) low contrast scroll bar or the miniscule arrows.
I agree here too, and that's planned for next update, so it's just matter of waiting for the next release
And, on the subject of UI, surely that green/purple module switching pane just underneath System isn't meant to be always visible in Browser mode, where it has no function? The little green hide/show arrow changes when clicked but the actual pane can't be hidden in Browser mode (it does work as expected in Edit mode, though).
That pane has a very important informative function as I said above for the arp example, it tells you which modules the patch is using.
Lastly, and this is a purely a matter of personal taste: I don't think that the exciting potential of this synth is being realised to the full with the, IMHO, cramped, ugly, depressingly coloured and early Windoze-looking GUI. It looks messy and singularly uninviting. It looks like a development placeholder.
We'll change the colours and more, don't worry, unfortunately the thing is that I like those colours, <sigh> but I know I have strange taste for images and it got worst with the age, maybe I just like "singularly uninviting" pictures.
So I will use a template made by someone else for the update, somehow like this: http://www.dashsignature.com/entity/Entity_Branis.png
that seems to have a wider acceptance, can you believe that I like my weird green and white design more than that? <grin>

Thanks very much for you feedback. The Entity update should be ready in September --- reminder for who haven't bought it yet: also the price will be updated to about 100 USD.

Cheers,

Luigi

Just bought Entity and I'm very glad it started up in 64bits in FL Studio. The demo didn't work under 64bits.

Nice synth, gui reminds me of Zebra (which I also like), but the sound is more polished. So the two of them mix right together.

That's great! Could I add one more request? To have the (computer) keyboard up/down arrows implemented too, like in NI's FM8 and Absynth, please?

A bit more conventional, perhaps, but easier on my eyes and those wooden endpieces look classy… ;-) I suppose there's no stopping you from using the original GUI when you play Entity yourself? :-D

Best,

Joachim

Hemmick Reef wrote:Funny, how people like different sounds 8) I find that many synth presets start to sound similar against the competition and I just start to think yea, yea, yea, heard it, yea, yea, oh that sounds interesting and original, then yea, yea heard it. Eventually it's going to become more difficult to create new WoW sounds in the sea of sound design - not sure where that's going? Synths that boast yet another XXX gigabytes worth of samples or 500 presets, but I think that this synth stands out as it has some real character of its own which is what sets hardware synths apart :)
Good ones, <grin>, and that's also why I don't care very much today about sounding "right" (to what?), Entity has hopefully it's own sound, like it or not, I surely do like it!
Yep, I've had the same preset-auditioning experience as Hemmick Reef. I think Entity does have its own sound, and I like it too! 8)

Sorry about the presets guys, I was just starting to get really sick and I think I was just not up to my best work. Many apologies, I'll be doing a package of extensive sounds for it coming in the next month or so, I think Entity is a great synth with huge potential that I didn't exploit properly.

Take care of your health first, man! And no need for apologies. Yeah, Entity has got a SOUND - rough, impolite and quite wonderful!

As for Entity, yeah, I like the sound, lots! 8)

I also like the matrix unit layout -- somehow this is easier or at least quicker for my brain to grasp than the usual x/y grid matrix.

And I wouldn't mind a lighter-colored skin based on the original, although the one by Branis looks nice too.

I just bought it so a big bump for this cool instrument!

Thanks everybody for supporting Entity, and a hug for Reason, hi mate, <grin>
Next week I should start to work with the new GUI

Post

Wow. I'm dumbfounded.

I'm going to keep it short.

Entity is NexSyn.

I can see it.

I can hear it.

It's so obvious, it's pathetic!

You guys didn't even switch the GUI around in attempts to make it look different! Oh man i could rant about this all day but I don't have the time. It's so obvious. It's so sad.

(MO - Really? I hope it's ALL legit for obvious reasons.)

Post

Never heard of Nexsyn, but by the looks of it...... you're absolutely right.

Post

He's working with the guy who did Nexsyn and says its based on that, with additions and improvements.

liqih wrote:Right, there's a simple reason for that similarity: when I and Michael Olsen decided to design and build a synth plugin together we needed a simple "achitecture template" to start with.
And since Michael worked for KeyToSound in the now abbandoned neXsyn development, he proposed to copy the layout of it, which he found clear and straight. We discussed for some days about that, gathered info about, and I was then convinced to use that GUI design as template. Also I liked some nexSyn features.

That would lead to two advantages, Michael would have worked with a "friendly" plugin structure and could use some of his code he already shared with nenSyn.

Be sure that Entity sounds nothing like nexSyn, it doesn't share any DSP with it
except the Reverb and one Osc written by Michael.
Yeah they look very similar for the modules and knobs arrangement but that's all about it.
